Thursday morning has arrived. And it’s going to be really pleasant in Nashville today with sunshine and a high of just 73.
YESTERDAY
I had a very fun writing session with young Angus Gill at his house, and by the time I got there, he had a start on an idea I had suggested over a year ago to write a song about all the pictures some people post from a hospital bed. And so, “Hospital Selfies” was born, and it’s pretty danged funny.
I’d rather watch a plumber bend over
Or a topless fatty on a riding mower
Than someone unhealthy
In a hospital selfie
Angus is working on a comedy set to perform at a comedy club later this year, and this song could be part of his set that night. Can’t wait to see how that goes over.
I also got to hear an incredible recording of Angus singing a song with the great Boz Scaggs for a major project, which just knocked my socks off.
I bought that album when it came out, and wore it out, especially the song “Lido Shuffle.” It’s a big musical feather in the cap for my friend Angus.
When we finished, we grabbed lunch with a water view. Perfect way to end a creative day.
SONG OF THE DAY
Since I wrote with Angus yesterday, “Scrapbook” is my choice for the song today, written about Angus’ grandmother, who passed away from Alzheimer’s. She kept every picture of Angus in a scrapbook, all of his accomplishments and highlights. And the song won the “Golden Guitar Award” one year ago for Angus in Australia, where he’s from, the equivalent of our CMA award here.
HEALTH NOTES
A Dutch hospital has quarantined 12 staffers after a breach of hantavirus protocol.
Orthodontists say it’s healthier to brush your teeth before breakfast, rather than after.
A study claims that engaging with the arts can slow biological aging.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Yep, that doesn’t end well.
WAYMO-NO MO
They have pulled the entire fleet of Robotaxis off the streets because of a dangerous software glitch. Recently, one drove into flood waters. Not a good thing.
I’ve got to say, it’s really weird pulling up to a stoplight as I did recently next to one of those and seeing no driver.
GROAN
This groaner comes from NY Post columnist Cindy Adams, who wrote in her column, “Word is, there’s a new musical that’s been written especially for an upcoming optometrist convention, ‘Oh Glaucoma!”
UNLIVABLE CITIES
WalletHub says the 5 most unlivable cities in the country are:
5…Gulfport, Mississippi
4…Fort Smith, Arkansas
3…Memphis
2…Detroit
And their choice for the most unlivable is Cleveland.
The Mayors of those towns must be thrilled.
COULD BE FUNNY
Will Ferrell is the “Hawk” in a new Netflix movie where he portrays an aging golfer trying to make a comeback. And it has shades of “Ricky Bobby” from his Talladega Nights movie. Here’s a look at the TRAILER for that golf movie.
HERE COMES THE BILL
This just in. Weddings can be expensive. The average cost for one in the US right now is $36,000. The average cost of a wedding dress, worn just once, is $2,100.
A comedian jokes that he knew of a Hollywood actress who spent 2.5 million dollars on her wedding dress, which was almost as much as her face.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From comedian George Carlin:
“I was surprised when I started getting old. I always thought it was one of those things that would happen to someone else.”
TODAY
I’m writing this morning with Lauren Mascitti, who just had Holly Williams and actress Gwyneth Paltrow get up on stage and sing with her a week ago. Can’t wait to hear more about that.
TONIGHT
I’ll be in the crowd for Alex Miller’s new album premier party at the Texas Troubadour theater here in Music City with his full band.
He’ll play every song off this great album, including two I helped write with him, the title track “More Country Than You,” which turned into a fun, arguing duet about which of the two of them is MORE country, with former “Voice” star Emily Ann Roberts.
And his new song “Memories and Gin.”
Looking forward to his big night.
Have a great Thursday!
