Friday morning, ready for the weekend.
17 tornadoes touched down in Mississippi yesterday, taking a bunch of houses with them. 17! Geez.
Here in Nashville, calmer. A high of 74 is expected today.
YESTERDAY
Caroline Owens and I tackled another song yesterday, and that’s always fun. Caroline is a hit artist on Billy Blue Records, with a great voice, plays guitar, plays great piano, AND she can fly-fish and tie her own flies.
Oh, and she’s a great songwriter as well. Her #1 song, “Telluride,” which I wrote with Andrea Pearson, is up for IBMA consideration for “Best Bluegrass Song of the Year,” so we both have our fingers crossed that the song might make the final ballot. We’ll know soon.
She’s got a big show with her band coming up in town soon at the world-famous Station Inn, and I’m planning on being there that night to hear her sing that song and others.
Always a pleasure to get to spend time with a young person this gifted.
SUBTLE FREQUENCY
It was nice to see this promotional banner about my wife Kathy’s book “Subtle Frequency”.
Her publishing company put this up as a reminder: if you haven’t gotten your copy yet, please do so. You won’t regret it. It’s a great summer-time page turner!
SONG OF THE DAY
The new Alex Miller album is out on vinyl, and it’s doing well. It includes the song “Memories & Gin” that I wrote with Alex. So, let’s make that the “Song of the Day…today.
HEALTH NOTES
The CDC has classified the hantavirus outbreak as a ‘level 3’ emergency response. The risk to the public for now remains low.
Recent research suggests that staying up all night can cause issues that are shockingly similar to those found in Alzheimer’s patients.
A hospital in Manitoba, Canada, had to pause surgeries because of an ant infestation.
WE’RE NOT ALONE?
President Trump is saying he’s about to release those UFO files and videos. And I’m betting this guy is going to show up on one of those videos.
AND IF THAT SEEMS STRANGE….
Check out this new beanie cap developed by a tech company.
You put the cap on, and it reads your mind, and then it translates that onto a computer. Wow. I’m pretty sure I don’t want a computer knowing what’s on my mind. That might short-circuit the computer.
LOTS OF TEAMS
It’s official. Next year, March Madness will include 76 teams. There were 68 teams last year competing, with Michigan eventually winning the title. 76 teams means a bigger bracket to fill out next year. And even MORE wrong picks for me.
THEM AND US
Jennifer Lopez just slashed the price of her home in Beverly Hills by 18 million dollars. It’s a steal now. It’s gone from a 68 million dollar asking price to just 50 million now.
I think I’ll offer 47 million in hopes that she’ll take it.
JOBS
AI is the cause of the loss of 26% of April’s layoffs. That’s about 1 of every four people who were let go from their jobs. I’m guessing an AI robot walks the fired employee out of the building with their box of belongings.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Might be my favorite bathroom mirror ever.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
With Mother’s Day coming up Sunday, this is a Mother’s Day quote from “The Golden Girls.”:
“It’s not easy being a mother. If it were easy, fathers would do it.”
TODAY
I have a blank calendar today, so I’ll try to fill it with something. Enjoy your weekend, and if you’re lucky enough to still have your Mom, spoil her.
