Our Power Is Back!

BILL BLOG Friday, January 30, 2026   And a VERY good Friday morning to you!    THE ICE STORM At 4:30 AM this morning, our power was finally restored. We lost it at 5:30 AM last Sunday. I don’t think I’ve ever endured anything quite like that.   My wife and I have a gas fireplace, which was our source of heat. And that’s pretty much where we stayed the entire time.   We had a massive tree that covered our driveway until Thursday, when some tree removal guys got it off our driveway. Before then, we were trapped. We could not get out, and nobody could get to us because of the icy, treacherous road we live on.   So yesterday was the first time I had been out, and then when I got back home, I could not get back up the driveway because of the ice still coating part of it. We spent a couple of hours chipping with a shovel and salting. So much fun!   Kathy actually learned to warm food and cook some things, and even make coffee with c...

Here Comes The Storm...Funny Song Writing...Lots of Guitars

BILL BLOG Friday, January 23, 2026    It’s Friday, and we are bracing for what this weekend brings.    The high in Nashville today will be 38, then it will drop to 21 tomorrow when the snow arrives, and on Monday, the high will be just 18. I’m trying hard not to complain too much as my sister Rita lives in Minnesota and tells me it’s 50 below!   But, in Minnesota, they just deal with the snow and go ice fishing, as they did in Wisconsin when I lived there. Different story here in the south, we panic!   The worry here is being without electricity for no telling how long, with the possibility of an ice storm. But I’ve never seen the forecasters struggle so hard to predict what is coming. This is the best forecast guess I’ve seen so far.   I’ll let you know what happened here come Monday on this Blog, IF we have power and the internet.   YESTERDAY What a fun song I wrote with Kevin Williamson of the Williamson Branch fami...

Snowmageddon...New Song...Corn Dogs

BILL BLOG Thursday, January 22, 2026    And it’s Thursday. 46 degrees for a high today, but the weather is about to change big time.   SNOW All eyes are on the weather as Nashville and middle Tennessee could see one of their worst snowstorms ever. Estimates are still unpredictable. It should start falling on Saturday and end on Monday. I’m expecting to be going nowhere for several days next week, and cancelling multiple songwriting appointments.   The snow is one thing, ice is another. And I’m praying we get lucky, and the ice part of this storm won’t hit Nashville.   By now, groceries are hard to find.   And some weather folks are predicting “exploding” trees from the cold in parts of the country. Never heard of that one before.   So, a word to the iguanas in Florida. They should drop out of the trees BEFORE the tree explodes.   YESTERDAY With the weather being cold, A ndrea Pearson brought a cold-weather type so...

Big Snow...Cancelled Show...Double Wide

BILL BLOG Wednesday January 21, 2026   Hump Day Wednesday.   And it’s all about keeping an eye on that winter storm that will move through this weekend. Today’s forecast predicts 6 inches of snow, and ice will be part of the equation for parts of middle Tennessee. Fingers crossed that Nashville will not freeze over, causing power outages and more, especially since the high temperature over the weekend is expected to be around 21 degrees above zero.   Six inches of snow will shut things down in the south in a hurry. But ice? Even worse. And you would be right. The South does not handle snow well.  And you know things are bad when this guy shows up with a bad forecast.     GEORGIA SHUTDOWN I remember a trip my band was taking from Missouri to play in Lakeland, Florida, once, and we hit a major snowstorm in Georgia. Not a snowplow to be seen everywhere, and cars and trucks were sliding off the road. We finally managed to pull off the interstate...

Snow On The Way...Bluegrass Convention...Hoosiers

BILL BLOG Tuesday January 20, 2026    Tuesday morning, the 20 th of January…already. And it’s cold. It’s just 12 above zero as I start this blog. Today’s high will be 35 in Nashville.   All eyes are on a winter storm pushing across the Midwest this weekend. Middle Tennessee could see 3 inches of snow or more. Kroger runs have already started.   I have a “ Hits & Grins ” show this Saturday night in Lebanon, Tennessee, with Victoria Venier and Steve Dean . Odds are that the show will be cancelled and rescheduled. I’ll let you know.   YESTERDAY My writing session was with Thomm Jutz and Caroline Owens yesterday at Thomm’s house-recording studio.   Something good always seems to happen with this trio when it gets together, and yesterday was no exception. An unusual thing did happen, though.   Caroline brought an idea with her that she thought was a chorus of a song. And I brought an idea with me that I too thought might ...
