And it’s Thursday. 46 degrees for a high today, but the weather is about to change big time.
SNOW
All eyes are on the weather as Nashville and middle Tennessee could see one of their worst snowstorms ever. Estimates are still unpredictable. It should start falling on Saturday and end on Monday. I’m expecting to be going nowhere for several days next week, and cancelling multiple songwriting appointments.
The snow is one thing, ice is another. And I’m praying we get lucky, and the ice part of this storm won’t hit Nashville.
By now, groceries are hard to find.
And some weather folks are predicting “exploding” trees from the cold in parts of the country. Never heard of that one before.
So, a word to the iguanas in Florida. They should drop out of the trees BEFORE the tree explodes.
YESTERDAY
With the weather being cold, Andrea Pearson brought a cold-weather type song into the writing room that I wrote with her and Caroline Owens.
In Andrea’s words, it was a “vibey” kind of song. I’m not sure I even know what that means. However, both Andrea and Caroline are really great singers, so it was fun having both of them record our new song before we left the room. And hearing the two of them harmonize was really a treat.
Really good writing day for sure.
SONG OF THE DAY
This is the first song I ever wrote with former American Idol Ayla Brown, “Can’t Run Away”.
We wrote this song several years ago with our mutual friend Rick Tiger, who died of COVID, unfortunately, in 2020. Great guy, who loved writing “real” stuff songs.
This one has a contemporary blues feel, but Rick loved writing it with us. Ayla recorded it on one of her albums, and I have Rick to thank for that, as he invited me to write with him and Ayla that day. Miss ya pal.
HEALTH NOTES
The Department of Health and Human Services is launching a study on whether radiation from cellphones could harm Americans’ health. In 208 the National Institute of Health did a study concluding there is “clear evidence” that high exposure to radio frequency radiation was associated with cancer in male rats.
A leading heart doctor advises Americans to be cautious about shoveling snow if they are 65 or older.
A new survey finds that people who spend more time with chatbots for social interactions or emotional support were likelier to report mental health symptoms,
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Love that reminder to over-zealous parents. And you know who you are.
SKEETERS
Orkin just listed the cities that have the worst mosquito problems. I might have guessed Milwaukee after living there for years and seeing skeeters bigger than my car, but no. What a surprise.
Los Angeles has the worst problem with those biting insects. Followed by Chicago, NYC, Atlanta, and Detroit. Who knew?
And yes…they do.
WEDDING BELLS
Wheel of Fortune co-host Vanna White married her longtime boyfriend.
Guess you could say she bought a “vow”. (I’ll be here all night)
REBA’S CORNDOG
Quite the gift they gave Reba at the Opry this past weekend as she celebrated being a Grand Ole Opry member for 40 years. Terri Clark handed her this bouquet corn dogs.
And yes, Reba does love a good corn dog. Who doesn’t? And now I know what to give my wife for Valentine’s Day!
And if not that, maybe this “Emotional Support Pickle”.
Man, she is going to LOVE me this Valentine’s Day!
OVERTHINK?
The PETA folks want to put Punxsutawney Phil out to pasture up in Pennsylvania and use a hologram version to predict how much more winter we have left.
Pretty sure that this guy is going to object to that notion big time.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Dave Barry:
“My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far, I’ve finished two bags of M&Ms and a chocolate cake. I feel better already.”
TODAY
I’ll be writing with Kevin Williamson today, the talented father figure in the Williamson Branch family bluegrass band. It’s gonna get real “grassy” today.
Have a great Thursday!
