And a VERY good Friday morning to you!
THE ICE STORM
At 4:30 AM this morning, our power was finally restored. We lost it at 5:30 AM last Sunday. I don’t think I’ve ever endured anything quite like that.
My wife and I have a gas fireplace, which was our source of heat. And that’s pretty much where we stayed the entire time.
We had a massive tree that covered our driveway until Thursday, when some tree removal guys got it off our driveway. Before then, we were trapped. We could not get out, and nobody could get to us because of the icy, treacherous road we live on.
So yesterday was the first time I had been out, and then when I got back home, I could not get back up the driveway because of the ice still coating part of it. We spent a couple of hours chipping with a shovel and salting. So much fun!
Kathy actually learned to warm food and cook some things, and even make coffee with candles. I’m signing her up for the Survivor show for sure.
Much has gone on this past week, and I’m not going to try to share all of the ordeal, and or stories there are to tell. I can say that a storm like this will test every bit of your patience and goodwill. And much will be written about this historic storm, the likes of which I have never seen. And we have quite the clean-up job in front of us, with limb and tree removals that have to be done. But we are grateful to come through it. And we learned a lot of lessons, to say the least.
My wife and I are also grateful for our great neighbors, as we helped each other out. One kept us supplied with back up hand held power boosters to constantly charge our phones…a blessing.
And I’m certainly grateful to those, including so many dear friends, who constantly checked on us.
Now you know why there has been no Blog these past 4 days. Come Monday, I’ll post a more normal Blog.
Have a great weekend…I know we will!
