BILL BLOG
Monday November 3, 2025
Monday morning, and here we are…November. And to kick off my November, my bag and guitar are once again packed for a road trip to Raleigh, North Carolina. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.
63 for the high today here in Nashville. Same high in Raleigh.
THE WEEKEND
Friday morning, I finished up a great bluegrass song with Jerry Salley and Alex Miller at my publishing company Billy Blue. We had a lot of this written, but ran out of time to finish it when we started it a couple of months before.
Jerry Salley has had as many bluegrass cuts as anybody in town, and he hers this song for a big-name bluegrass artist that all three of us love, and he’s going to send the song to him. Here’s hoping he loves it as much as we do, but if he passes, at the very least it will be a song that Jerry records…and that ain’t half bad either.
SATURDAY
I made a trip south to Pulaski, Tennessee, which is about an hour and 15 or so from Nashville, with songwriters Steve Dean, Bobby Tomberlin, and Bill DiLuigi. We played a red-carpet event kind of show for the Rotary Club in Pulaski.
The event was held inside the Mule Barn, a building that’s been standing since the early 20’s and refurbished a couple of times.
Originally, it was a triple-thick brick barn where they sold mules at auctions to the farmers. That gave me a chance to share with our large audience how I remember hearing stories of how my Grandpa Whyte and my Uncle Lucian, back in Missouri, once plowed the fields with mules.
And I also shared how I was so connected to the place because I am a Central Missouri University Fighting Mule, and have been a jackass all my life. That got a big laugh.
Nice folks, great food, in fact, they sent me home with a pecan pie. Hard to beat that. And the Rotary Club, which sponsored our songwriter show, raised some money, so it was a wonderful evening in Pulaski.
CLOCKS
I got home Saturday evening just in time to watch the Dodgers stage an exciting comeback to win back-to-back World Series Championships. I had no dog in the fight and was rooting for exciting baseball games. Boy, did this World Series ever deliver that. How many days until Spring Training Camps open?
SPEAKING OF BASEBALL
Yogi Berra’s 1947 rookie baseball jersey was found at a Boys & Girls Club in NYC, and is now expected to sell for 1 million dollars at auction! Wow. Don’t toss out your old baseball cards and memorabilia folks.
CLOCKS
And then I rolled the clocks back one hour…sigh. My least favorite time of year. Dark early. And a survey agrees with how I feel, as a record number of Americans are against rolling the clocks back. I’m still not sure why we can’t just do that. Can I get an Amen?
NEW SHOW
Some shows are starting to show up for 2026. August 22, our “Evening in the Round” show with Linda Davis, Lang Scott and me will play in Mountain City, Tennessee at the Heritage Hall Theatre. A 7 pm show that evening.
Mountain City is located in the very northeast corner of Tennessee, and was affected by the flooding from Hurricane Helene. Several lost their lives, homes floated away, road closures, and power outages, just devastating. But Mountain City has come roaring back, and we are happy to play music for those folks for sure.
SONG OF THE DAY
Something very special today. I received a wonderful video over the weekend from the wife of 103-year-old World War II Marine Veteran Bob Schultz. I wrote Bob’s remarkable, true story about serving on a battleship in the Philippines. He was a gunner, shot down kamikaze planes, and helped bury over 140 marines after on kamikaze hit their deck and it went up in flames.
His wife Shirley, with the help of a friend, took Bob’s song, “Seagoing Marine” and made a video of it, using some old black and white pictures of Bob, his ship, his friends, and more. It moved me to tears. What an honor to have written this song, and then receive this very moving VIDEO. I’ll bet you’ll be moved like I was when you watch this.
Thank you, Shirley and family, for this wonderful gift that I will forever cherish.
HEALTH NOTES
A nutritionist is suggesting that adding bananas to your smoothies can cancel out their benefits.
Dietitians say that Brie cheese is hands-down the worst for your cholesterol.
Research says that early peanut introduction could help curb allergies in kids. Exposing them to peanuts when they are 4 to 11 instead of waiting until they are 3 is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
THEM AND US
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, lost $ 29 billion in one day when his Meta stock crashed. And he only has 228.5 BILLION dollars left in his bank account. I don’t know how he’s going to get by.
Meanwhile, Amazon stock surged to a new record high, rising 11% on the stock market. And that makes me wonder, does Jeff Bezos order his wife’s Christmas gifts on Prime?
EVERYBODY HAS A PODCAST
Seems like that might be the truth. There are currently 452 MILLION podcasts to choose from. And just last month, 487,000 new ones were added.
One woman is doing a “Food Psychic” podcast. So there’s something for everyone.
I’m thinking about getting a partner to podcast with me. If I do, I’m going to call it the “Two P’s In A Podcast”. Stay tuned.
OFF TO THE HOSPITAL
Weird things happen. And when they do, some wind up going to the emergency rooms. Here’s 3 of my favorites.
A man dislocated his jaw while yawning.
A husband rolled over on his wife’s arm in bed and dislocated her arm.
And my favorite…
A woman ran into a hole that was dug for a post that was filled with water while chasing a GOAT. She fractured her wrist, and while in the hospital, she found out she was pregnant!
Can’t make that stuff up folks.
TODAY’S QUOTE
From Conan O’Brien:
“Just taught my kids about taxes by eating 38% of their ice cream”.
TODAY
I’m off to Raleigh, North Carolina, with Linda Davis and Lang Scott. Tomorrow night, we will play a 15-minute showcase in front of a lot of buyers from the southeast part of the country, along with several other acts. Theater owners will listen, we’ll talk with some of them, and then those theater owners and promoters will book shows for the 2026 season. We’re hoping that we’ll pick up a lot of dates from that. Wish us luck.
Have a great Monday!
