Family Band Song...2026 Looking Busy...If You Could Read My Mind

BILL BLOG

Tuesday November 25, 2025

Tuesday, two days until Turkey Day.

A little rain is falling right now in Nashville, but that will stop soon and give away to cloudy skies and a 67 degree high today.

YESTERDAY

I wrote a new gospel-grass song with Kevin Williamson of the Williamson Branch Family Band.

The family is working on a new album that might need a song like that, so we made an effort to try and come up with a song that fits them…and I think we might just have done that. Time will tell…as always.  Kevin and his wife are going to have a big ole Thanksgiving table this year filled with daughters and husbands, and all of them are, for the most part, musical.

And the song we wrote yesterday had to do with being “thankful”, so it was appropriate.

2026

The New Year is shaping up to be very busy with road dates. Several are already logged on my Tour section at the website here. Recently, Linda Davis, Lang Scott, and I did an “Evening in the Round” showcase in North Carolina for theater owners in the southeast.

It appears we’ll be on a 6-8 show run in November of next year, potentially a 15-day trip. Pretty sure I don’t have enough clothes!

And there will be more to come from that showcase as well. Stay tuned for cities and venues.

SONG OF THE DAY

Here’s a song written completely from fiction. One I wrote with young Angus Gill and a veteran Australian country artist, Alan Mackey. “She Always Danced Alone” is all about a mysterious Señorita who dances alone each night in a Cantina. Why is she dancing all alone?  Listen to the song to find out.

HEALTH NOTES

Just in time for Thanksgiving. A nutritionist claims pumpkin has health benefits. It’s a great source of fiber and potassium, which helps boost heart health by counteracting the effects of sodium on blood pressure. (So skip the pecan pie)

Just in time for winter. Researchers say shivering can activate brown fat to burn calories and generate heat.

A scientific review suggests that eating mushrooms could improve your heart health.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Well, ya gotta appreciate the honesty.

TOYS R US

Folks are apparently craving some “nostalgia” at Christmas time. Toys R Us declared bankruptcy back in 2017, but it’s making a comeback. We have one in a Tanger Outlet here in Nashville, and business is robust again. The same is reported for some of the others that have reopened.

Cool. Now, can you give me back my Sears & Roebuck Christmas catalog, please?

THANKSGIVING FUNNY

GORDON LIGHTFOOT

If you’re a music fan, check out the great documentary on Gordon Lightfoot, the Canadian superstar-poet. I had forgotten what a superstar he is. “If You Could Read My Mind”, “Early Morning Rain”, “Sundown”, and the musical story of that ship that went down in the Great Lakes, “The Edmund Fitzgerald”. All Gordon masterpieces.

It’s an interesting documentary about his career and personal life, which is laid bare in this FILM. Very enjoyable.

PERFECT STOCKING STUFFER

Boy, is my wife going to be surprised when she checks her Christmas stocking this year!

JOKE

From my friend and co-writer Lauren Mascitti, who sent me this.

A non-binary guitar renter was in a car crash: a gender bender fender lender fender bender”.

I’ll be dropping that line in a show somewhere down the line.

QUOTE

From Leslie Nielsen:

“Doing nothing is hard to do…you never know when you’re finished.”

TODAY
I’ll be at the rhyming table with Andrea Pearson today, and a writer she’s bringing with her whom I’ve yet to meet. Andrea and I have good luck writing together, as a couple of our songs have been recorded, including “God Never Made A Mountain” which the two of us wrote with our buddy Josh Shilling.

Looking forward to seeing what we can come up with today.

Have a great Tuesday!
