And here comes the last “hump day” in October. 52 degrees for the high in Music City today, and we’re expecting some heavy rain this Wednesday.
Hurricane Melissa roared ashore in Jamaica and is not hitting Cuba as a Category 4. Lots and lots of damage. A storm chaser flew into the hurricane and threw up “live” on air; that’s how big and bumpy a storm it is.
And officials in Jamaica have put out a “crocodile warning” as the Crocs are searching for high ground, and are likely to show up in residential areas. Pretty sure I don’t want to live ANYWHERE that has “Crocodile Warnings”.
YESTERDAY
It was a lazy Tuesday, with no “gotta-do” stuff on my calendar. Game 4 of the World Series was the highlight, with the Blue Jays evening up the series against the Dodgers. Really good series, that could go either way in my humble baseball opinion. LA has that 400-million-dollar roster, but Toronto is more than capable of pulling off the upset. I’ll have my feet up for Game 5 later this evening.
And here’s some weird trivia about the World Series. Brad Paisley sang the National Anthem before Game 3 at Dodger Stadium. That’s the classic that went 18 innings before the Dodgers won. It’s the SECOND time Brady has sung the anthem at a World Series game that went 18 innings.
The other time was in 2018 when the Dodgers beat the Boston Red Sox in 18 innings. Wonder what the odds of that were in Las Vegas. Wow.
GOOD CHART NEWS
The song “Telluride” that I wrote with Andrea Pearson keeps climbing up the Banjo Radio Chart. It’s #3 this week on the Banjo Radio Chart for Caroline Owens. Woo Hoo!
All three of us have our fingers crossed that it will climb up two more spots within the next few weeks.
SONG OF THE DAY
Since it’s still October, I’m going to share an Oktoberfest kind of song. This is a polka that I wrote with the “Polka Queen” Lynn Marie and her husband, Eddie Roddick Jr.
A few years ago, Lynn was working on a new album and needed one more original polka. She reached out to an idea she had about using the word “Celebrate”. I then took that idea, wrote it down, and had a meeting with Lynn and Eddie, where I played the song for them. They loved it, tweaked it just a little, and then at the end of this song, they did a really cool thing and added some of the music from the original song “Celebrate” by KC and the Sunshine Band…polka style. Listen for that when you listen to this polka, which went on to be a #1 song on the Polka Chart up in Cleveland. Yes, believe it or not, they have a Polka Chart.
HEALTH NOTES
Some doctors are saying that cancer cures could be in reach with cutting-edge medical tech.
An aggressive monkey infected with COVID and STIs is running loose somewhere in Mississippi after a transport truck he was riding in overturned.
A study published in the International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry examined over 10,800 individuals aged 70 and above. They found that those who listen to music had a 39% lower risk of dementia compared to those who sometimes, rarely, or never listen to music.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Pretty creative way to move a house.
HAVE A ROBOT
The first consumer-ready humanoid robot is ready for purchase. The NEO home robot goes for $20,000. It can fold laundry, do the dishes, and can engage in human conversation. I’m waiting for one that can do my taxes and landscape.
NOW THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT
There’s a Nashville Band called the “Arts Fishing Club” that not only makes music with their instruments on stage, but they have one guy who grills hot dogs on stage alongside them, wraps them in buns and tin foil, and then tosses them out into the crowd! Check these guys out. Awesome.
And I know of another musician called “The Sauce Boss” who plays and sings with a chef’s hat, while he also makes gumbo in a big pan and stirs it with an outdoor boat motor. I can’t make this kind of stuff up, folks. Take a look HERE.
“Let The Good Times and the Gumbo Roll”.
THERMOSTAT
Experts say the ideal temperature is 75-78 in the summer months, and is should be set on 68 degrees in the house during the winter months.
Someone wrote, “Marriage is moving the thermostat up or down two degrees when the other person isn’t looking for the rest of your lives until you die.”
SMALL PHONE
Did you know you can buy a credit card-sized smartphone?
Me neither. They go for around $110. I have trouble finding my phone now when I misplace it. This one could fall between the cushions of the sofa and take even longer to find!
TODAY’S QUOTE
From the late comedienne Phyllis Diller.
“I want my children to have all the things I couldn’t afford. Then I want to move in with them.”
TODAY
Late this afternoon, I’ll be playing a private show with my friends Linda Davis, Lang Scott, and Bobby Tomberlin for the “Mercy Chef” folks who provide 5-star food for disaster volunteers, relief helpers, and more. Quite a great organization, and it will be our pleasure to be their entertainment this evening and help them raise some dollars for their cause. If you’d like to find out more about the Mercy Chef folks, just click HERE.
Have a great Wednesday!
