Here comes the first Hump Day of September. 86 high today in Nashville with sun.
YESTERDAY
I had one last day off…a long Labor Day weekend for me. So, I did that catch-up stuff. I’ve learned to enjoy those when they come along, and doing not much has become more enjoyable with time. I did work on a couple of songs, pitched a few, and got a “hold” on one from an act I love. A “hold” means the artist is asking for you not to “pitch” or play for any other artist for a while. It also means it’s a good chance the song will be recorded on their next project. Here’s hoping that’s true!
So I guess I did work a little yesterday after all.
STONES
One more fun snippet of the song that I wrote with the artist Katrina Burgoyne. Check out this fun TEASE.
SONG OF THE DAY
Here’s a fun song I put on one of my albums, “Yo Mama’s So Country,” that I wrote with Billy Henderson, who’s a master poet, and the AJ Masters.
My favorite line in the song might be, "Yo Mama's so country, she's Aunt Bee as she can be."
Billy Henderson wrote songs for Jerry Reed, David Allan Coe, Crystal Gayle, Shenandoah, and others.
AJ wrote songs that were recorded by artists such as Faith Hill, John Berry, and The Oak Ridge Boys, among others. He played guitar some for the late Charlie Rich. And that’s him playing every instrument you hear on the song we recorded. AJ died of prostate cancer in 2015. Great strides have been made in that arena, and it’s not the death sentence it once was. I wish the advances in the medical world that they’ve made were there for AJ.
HEALTH NOTES
A new study suggests that receiving a shingles vaccine can help reduce the risk of developing dementia.
A mid-size trial reveals that an over-the-counter nasal spray seems to cut COVID infections by as much as 67%.
The New York Times reports that reduced screening may have led to the rise is advanced prostate cancer.
HERE’S YOUR "Real Estate" SIGN
Make a really QUICK offer.
MICKEY D’S…AS IN MICKEY MOUSE
McDonald’s announced the rollout of $5 extra value meals at a time when food prices are sky high. You can get a burger, fries, nuggets, and a Coke for five bucks. That’s one of the choices.
At the same time comes the news that there is a McDonald’s at Disney World.
Who knew? It’s different. There are over 1,000 solar panels on this one. And there are “live” plants creeping up the wall.
That’s a long way from the Mickey D’s that feature a ball pit.
SPEAKING OF CHEAP FOOD
I want to applaud the Baltimore Ravens for coming up with value-priced food for their fans. If you’ve been to a sporting event recently, you can’t help but notice the outrageous food prices. A chicken strip basket might set you back 20 bucks, $12 and up beer is a thing. Unreal.
If you go to a Ravens game this year, you can get a hot dog for $3.49, a pretzel for under 2 bucks, a beer for $4.99, and a BBQ chicken sandwich for $4.99. And there are other affordable offerings as well.
I can only hope other teams will follow suit.
MEANWHILE…
A young 5-year-old boy went missing from his house in Florida. Turns out he took a hike to the nearest Chick-fil-A, where police found him sitting with the manager chowing down. Well, that chicken IS addictive. Some of my friends refer to it as “Christian Crack”.
BIG FOOT
In Maine, a boy won the Sasquatch calling contest. Yes…it exists. For all of his bellowing, he won $100. And no, it was not me who was calling for Bigfoot. Although recently this one did show when I was playing music at the Mo Mo Festival in Louisiana, Missouri. That guy is everywhere these days!
MARRIAGE QUOTE OF THE DAY
I don’t know who said this, but there may be a little truth in it.
“Marry the one who gives you the same feeling you get when you see food coming at a restaurant.”
WEIRD LICENSE PLATES
People have these on the back end of their cars.
And then there’s this one.
I wonder how many times that guy has been in traffic school. And then there’s this…
Thank you for announcing the obvious.
LAINEY WILSON
How hot is that country superstar right now? There will be over 30 Lainey Wilson corn mazes this Fall that people can get lost in.
Yep. When over 30 farmers take the time to carve out your image in their fields? Your career is hot.
And how about this farmer who decided to create a corn maze for older folks to enjoy?

TODAY
I’m off to write with Kennedy Scott & Victoria Camp, two of the three ladies in the musical group “Three Times A Lady”. They are stacking up songs for a new album, so we’ll try to write something good enough to be considered for that.
Then this evening it’s time to pack a suitcase for the trip to Marion, Illinois, with Freedom Sings USA, where I’ll be writing with veterans, and then doing a concert with the other songwriters making the trip, all performing songs that will have been written with someone who has served our country. Pretty special weekend coming up.
Have a great Wednesday!
