BILL BLOG
Thursday September 4, 2025
Thursday morning, and once again I’m loading up a guitar and suitcase for a road trip. This time to Marion, Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s blog.
85 degrees high today in Nashville, then it shoots up to 93 tomorrow. Then it will start to cool off as a rain system moves through. Meanwhile, in Marion, Illinois, today the high is just 74.
YESTERDAY
I wrote a very fun, eclectic song about the struggles that young artists have trying to make it in the music business. With streaming, the decline in CD sales, and now AI, it has become increasingly difficult to participate without a spouse or a day job to support one’s music habit. The song was written with Kennedy Scott and Victoria Camp, two of the ladies in the trio “Three Times A Lady” that features great three-part girl harmony.
This song is a little different…But I always love adding something “different” to the catalog. I think this will be on the girls have a blast playing “live” in their shows.
NICE POSTER
This is Katrina Burgoyne’s new poster promoting the release of our song “Stones”. The song is her new single, and it’s edgy and fun…just the way she likes it. The former Aussie has a fun attitude when she performs, so this song fits that mode extremely well. I had the title the day we wrote and when I shared it with her, “You can’t be my rock, if you ain’t got the stones” she fell out laughing. And now it will become a regular part of her “live” shows.
This new single will be released worldwide on September 17. Those interested can pre-save the song right now at this LINK that Katrina shared with me.
AND THEN THERE’S THIS
Here’s a great little TEASE of a new song coming from Laura Leigh Jones, who comes from a talented bluegrass-playing family. The little dab of music you hear in the background is a song the two of us wrote that will be her first single coming out soon, off of her new album. This new single will be out September 19. And there will be at least one other song on this album that we co-wrote. Can’t wait!
SHOW RESCHEDULED
The show that was scheduled for Saturday, September 13, at Main & Monroe in Lexington, Tennessee, has been rescheduled. Turns out there’s a big annual event that the whole town turns out for that weekend. So, Lauren Mascitti and I will be doing two Christmas Dinner Songwriter Shows at this intimate restaurant listening room on Saturday, December 13 instead.
We had an absolute blast when we played there late last year, and we’re looking forward to being back at this venue that sits right in the middle of the town square in December. Get your tickets and join us!
SONG OF THE DAY
How about a beach song today? This is Brent Burns with “A Boy and A Girl and a Beach”. After the two of us wrote this song, Brent knew how he wanted it to sound. He wanted a “California” vibe to it, with a touch of the old group “The Ventures” in it. Remember them? “Wipeout?” And this one, “Walk Don’t Run”.
When you listen to our song, you’ll hear a bit of that in it for sure.
HEALTH NOTES
The Florida General Surgeon is saying the state will become the first state to do away with mandated vaccines.
A woman listened to some influencers online who encouraged women to go off birth control. She did. And she’s pregnant.
Experts agree that weight loss is hard to achieve because of ultra-processed foods that seem to be in most meals.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
I support tourism…so I’ll try not to feed on those wearing fanny packs.
POWERBALL
No winner again last night…me included. I’ve been wearing out my paper shredder. The jackpot now soars to a ridiculous 1.7 BILLION dollars. I keep blaming the teenager at my gas station for refusing to sell me the winning ticket.
NOT SOMETHING YOU SEE EVERY DAY
Yep, they arrested Chuck E. Cheese in Florida. Credit card theft. Gee whiz.
Word is that he will be sentenced to 90 days in the ball pit.
THEM AND US
The top-paid spokesperson in America is…and you might guess this…is Stephanie Courtney. Okay, you may not say that name. You probably said “Flo,” and you’d be right, as they are the same person in those Progressive Insurance commercials that run ad nauseam on our TV sets. Old “Flo” makes 2 million per year for doing those. Sign me up!
ANOTHER WEIRD GUINNESS THING
Three men teamed up with a slingshot to make the world’s longest cornhole shot. 151 feet in total on a football field. What does that look like? Watch THIS.
Pretty sure that’s a guy thing. I don’t see three women sitting around thinking, “let’s go buy a slingshot and then toss cornhole bags with it.”. Don’t see it.
LESS OF US
Looks like the US population could decline for the first time in 2025. Immigration and birth numbers are both declining, so it could happen. Maybe I’ll be able to find an open parking space downtown later this year.
GOOGLE THIS
Google is going to have to pay out $425 million for stealing our data. I just googled, “How much of that will I get”? No search results showed up. Probably some kind of algorithm malfunction, I’m sure.

TODAY
I’m off on another Freedom Sings USA retreat. Back to Marion, Illinois, for a second time with this great group of songwriters, you see listed on the poster.
Tonight we’ll have dinner and meet and greet with our hosts. Friday, each songwriter will write with a veteran from that region. This Saturday night, we have a concert to honor those veterans that’s free to the public. Looking forward to being back in Marion.
Have a great Thursday!
