Family Band...Gators...New Songwriter Show

BILL BLOG

Tuesday April 8, 2025

Tuesday morning and we will finally see some sunshine today!  First time in over a week. After 5 tornadoes, tons of flooding, hail, and heavy rain this will be welcome.

It has cooled things off in Nashville. Today’s high will be 59 be we’ve dipped into the 30’s for lows. Cold enough that we had to cover up plants that were just planted outdoors last night. Fun stuff. I call them weeds, but my wife insists that they are beautiful plants.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with Kevin Williamson of the family band Williamson Branch for the first time ever. The band is comprised of Kevin, his wife and three daughters who are all very talented. The kids grew up on the stage. The oldest girl just had a baby a couple of months ago so I had a chance to congratulate Grandpa on that good news.

With his family in mind, I brought a song idea about families, their bond, and some of the traditions. Some of those traditions that went into the song were mine. Sunday dinners at Grandma and Grandpa’s after church being one of those.

One of Kevin's daughters plays bass, another mandolin and guitar, and yet another fiddle. All 5 members of the family sing of course, and the three girls can all dance. Quite the family show.

It was fun writing something together that could turn into something they will be able to sing in their shows.

MARCH MADNESS

I did watch the championship game last night and boy did we get our money’s worth as Florida came back and beat Houston who led almost the entire game. The top 4 seeded teams made the Final 4 and that made the finish to the college basketball season very fun to watch. Folks in Florida are doing a lot of this this morning.

 NEW SHOW

On November 16 I’ll be playing a songwriter show with my friend Steve Dean at the beautiful West Haven Resident Club. It’s a Sunday night show that will start at 6:30 pm and it will be the second year in a row that Steve and I will play this show as part of their concert series. West Haven is a gorgeous planned community south of Franklin, Tennessee. And this is where our show will be held.

More details are available in the TOUR section of my calendar here on the website.

SONG OF THE DAY

This was an unusual song to write. Written with my Australian friend and producer Angus Gill and an Australian female artist by the name of Rae Leigh. Rae candidly admitted that she and other women were not ashamed to use their assets to their advantage. And that they would sometimes “push them up” as she would say. So the song turned out to be “Push Em’ Up Jill” and became a #1 song for her on one of the Australian charts. Just a LITTLE bit different than the “family” song I wrote yesterday with Kevin Williamson.

 HEALTH NOTES

Hantavirus, the cause of Gene Hackman and his wife’s death has claimed three more lives in California. Public health officials describe fatal cases as ‘tragic and alarming’.

RFK Jr. plans to tell the CDC to stop recommending fluoride in drinking water.

Wallet Hub just listed the five healthiest cities in the country.

5 San Diego

4 Salt Lake City

3 Seattle

2 Honolulu

And their healthiest city in America is San Francisco.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

In this case…here’s your Groundhog sign.

 Accurate.

GALLOPING ALONG

1-50 men believe they can outrun a racehorse according to a new poll taken in Britain. The poll did not indicate how many of those men were sober when they answered.

DOLLY AIRPORT

Over 50,000 signatures have been collected now in an effort to rename our Nashville Airport after Dolly Parton.  The line most connected with that is “Departin’ Parton”.

Wonder if they’ll have Porter’s to help with our baggage?

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE

The latest in that series is about to roll out and the TRAILER might be enough to make you want to buy a ticket. The airplane stunt with Tom Cruise alone is “heart in your throat” kind of stuff. And remember, that’s not a stunt guy. That’s Cruise hanging onto that airplane. The movies is out next month.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

A Nevada Man Has Been Arrested After Officials Seized Seven Tigers That He Said Were His Emotional Support Animals. (The guy surely bought too many tickets to see Siegfried & Roy in Vegas.)

TODAY

I’m out writing with Alex Miller again whose new single with Tracy Byrd  "The Byrd” is out right now. And we’ll be rhyming with hit writer Wil Nance at Wil’s little writing cabin out in the country. Should be fun.

Have a great Tuesday!

Storm Weary...Wrestling Church...Gators

BILL BLOG Friday April 4, 2025  Friday morning in soggy Nashville.   YESTERDAY It was another day of storms, tornadoes, and a whole lot of flooding. And it sounds like we could get more and nobody wants that. Folks are storm-weary from the constant flood and tornado warnings that have been lighting up our phones for the past couple of days and nights. Hallways have become bedrooms for some. Schools are still closed today because of the flooding and damage and the weather forecast predicts that we are still not done with this system that just won’t go away. There are now 5 confirmed deaths so far.   Across the region where these storms have been constant the weather service has issued over 300 tornado warnings. There were a lot of big wind-walls like this one that hit near Nashville.   Selmer, Tennessee…also near Nashville was really hit hard.   Our house is on a hill so we don’t worry much about flooding. But I’m going to...

A Baby Song...Parrot Head Show...Spring Break

BILL BLOG Wednesday April 16, 2025   Over the hump we try to go. It’s Wednesday. The high will be 69 in Nashville today but we’re going up into the 80’s for the rest of the week. It’s going to start feeling like summer around here.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Katrina Burgoyne , who moved here from Australia several years ago, got married, and is now the mom of a 1-year-old girl. And that little girl and the first year of being a mom in a new country was weighing on her heart. She had a start on a song that spoke to that, and I got to jump in and help her finish the song. These are the kinds of songs that will make a mom cry during the songwriting process, as Katrina did yesterday. That’s a good sign that the tune might touch the hearts of other moms whenever she sings this anywhere. I was happy to be her co-writer on this yesterday.     MOTM GIG I found out yesterday that my friend Brent Burns and I will be playing a show on one of the ma...

Shows Ahead...A New Line Dance...Tax Day

BILL BLOG Tuesday April 15, 2025  And a Happy Tuesday to y’all. Another storm rolled through here late last night that got a little loud. After a high of 84 in Nashville yesterday we’ll have a high of just 63 today. And that’s why the storm rolled through I’m guessing.   YESTERDAY I had yesterday off from any appointments so I caught up on some things. My calendar will be full of traveling and shows in the back half of the year, so it’s nice to have some downtime for the next couple of months. Here’s a look at the upcoming shows through the end of May.   Thursday, May 1 I’ll be at the Listening Room Café here in Nashville with “Hits & Grins” alongside Steve Dean and Victoria Venier . This will be a 6 pm dinner show.   Friday May 2, I’m at the Omni Hotel in downtown Nashville for a private corporate event where myself and several other writers will be writing songs with corporate folks that will then be turned into line dances. ...
