One last good morning to you from beautiful Gulf Shores, home of MOTM, the Parrot Head Festival. The high today here will be 79 with lots of sunshine.

YESTERDAY

Geez, take a look at the view I had from my stage yesterday morning for my 10:45 AM gig.

Might be one of my favorite stage views ever! I played a one hour show for 30 or 40 Parrot Heads who gathered around the pool for the view, and the music I played.

That hour flew by with stories and songs and conversations with folks from all around the country who love being part of the Parrot Head family, all of them loving the beach.

Thanks for hanging, and being such a great crowd yesterday morning.

YESTERDAY AFTERNOON

I had the pleasure of passing out the Trop Rock Awards for Best Radio Stations at the Trop Rock Award Show, and I was the backstage announcer as well, reading right off the script.

The show lasted about 3 hours with some great "live" performances by Trop Rock artists.

Special congratulations to my friend Kelly McGuire who was ver surprised when they gave him the "WAVE" AWARD for "Lifetime Achievement."

That's Kelly on the left, next to another great Trop Rock Lifetime Achievement winner "Sunny Jim."

I'll be sitting in with Kelly later today swapping songs, so we'll celebrate that feat a little more.

Thanks to the MOTM committee for asking me to be part of their award show.

SONG OF THE DAY

While the Trop Rock folks are gathered here in Gulf Shores this week, the bluegrass crowd is gathered in Chattanooga at the IBMA festival. My good friend Tim Stafford was named the "Songwriter of the Year" So deserved. And he also served as this year's keynote speaker.

I could not be two places at once this week, so I chose Gulf Shores this year, but I'm in Chattanooga in "bluegrass spirit."

And I'm going to put the song "Typhoon" that Tim and I wrote that's on the charts right now, with Hall of Famer Dudley Connell singing for the song for today.

HEALTH NOTES

A new study has just linked recreational recreational cannabis legalization in the US to a rise in hospital admissions for several cardiovascular diseases.

Good news. A first-of-it's-kind cancer vaccine helps reduce chances of melanoma patients tumor returning according to a new study.

Research from the Stevens Institute of Technology suggests that 31 million entrepreneurs have a 10% lower risk of early death compare to those who spend their careers working for others.

HERE'S YOUR SIGN

Yep, that's pretty low.

EXPENSIVE BURGER

Disney is now selling a craft burger that will set you back $34. For a hamburger at the Disneyland Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.

And if your kids want a hot dog? $22 per dog.

I wonder if the hotel sells Ramen Noodles anywhere?

STAYING IN

A survey shows that we spend just 4% of our nights out with friends socializing. That's half as much as we did in the year 2003. We are becoming less social.

At the same time, those playing video games rose from 42% in 1995 to 64% today.

HALLOWEEN

Based on some kind of spooky research, the cities with the most witches in the US are:

5...San Francisco

4...Jersey City, New Jersey

3....Pasadena, California

2...Los Angeles

And the city with the most witches?  New York City.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From L.M. Montgomery:

"Nothing is really lost to us as long as we remember it."

You don't say!

TODAY

One more show at noon today with my Trop Rock friend Kelly McGuire around noon, and around another pool with a view of the ocean.

Sometimes life don't suck.

Then this evening I'll watch game 1 of the World Series with Brent Burns, go Brewers! And then early tomorrow morning, back to Nashville.

I'ts been a great 10-day beach run of shows, songwriters, views, seafood, and more. Until next time.

Have a great weekend!

The Bluebird Show...Pet Marriage...Tourist Attractions

BILL BLOG Thursday, August 6, 2026   Thursday morning, a little bleary-eyed. We’re back in the heat again today, with a high of 91 expected in Nashville.    I was up late last night, so the Blog is being posted just a little later than normal this morning.     YESTERDAY What a magical night at the Bluebird Café for the 9 pm songwriter show Wil Nance , Mo Pitney, and Brady Seals .      The place was packed, as it always is with folks from far and wide, including a nice couple who made the trip from Alberta, Canada, just to come to the Bluebird Café. And I don’t think they went home disappointed.   Wil Nance kicked us off with the great song he helped write for George Strait, “ Where Have I Been All My Life, ” and also performed his smash hit, “She’s Everything for Brad Paisley .   Curb Recording Artist Mo Pitney sang “ Fiddle Around, ” which he wrote with Wil and a couple of great new tunes. Mo is one of the...
