Hello, Tuesday morning. It’s warm, and getting warmer. A high of 94 in Nashville today. By Friday we’ll be pushing 100.
And it’s not just us who are sweating, as July broke a 132-year-old mark for the hottest ever for that month. And August is looking like it might do the same thing.
YESTERDAY
At the last second, I cancelled my songwriting session because of a new cell phone issue I was having. It’s a long story, and you’d be bored, so I’m just going to leave it at that. But I would like to have my time back that I spent dealing with it. Sigh.
INDIANA
My day opened up, and I spent part of the time adding some new shows to my tour calendar, including a February show in Merom, Indiana. Just me, a guitar, some singing at storytelling at a historic venue in southwest Indiana. I don’t do a lot of “solo” shows, so this one will be a little different.
TENNESSEE
My next show is just a couple of weeks away in east Tennessee with Linda Davis and Lang Scott. An “Evening in the Round” show in Mountain City.
FLORIDA
And yesterday, part of the lineup for this year’s “Blast On The Bay” songwriters festival was released for Port St. Joe, Florida, October 16-18.
One of my favorite destinations each year, and I’m glad to be part of it again. However, it will feel just a little different this year. Normally, our “Hits & Grins” trio with Victoria Venier and Steve Dean plays this festival together.
But both have other commitments this year, so it’s just me going, and they’ll let me know soon which venues and who I’ll be making music with. I’ll let you know when I know.
LAST NIGHT
I had dinner at a Buffalo Wild Wings and sat next to a guy who was playing trivia on a screen using a BBW app that he just kept insisting I MUST get. And all I wanted to do was eat a few wings in peace. I don’t think he took a breath while he was talking to me about it. Geez.
However, he must have thought I was the smartest dude ever when one of the questions was, “Where is the Romeo and Juliet statue located in Italy? There were 4 choices. I quietly said, “Verona.” I’d been there on a tour of Italy with my wife and friend Brent Burns a few years ago with a great group of folks.
Of course, I had no answers for any other questions that popped up, but I think I made the guys’ night. And no, I didn’t download the app.
SONG OF THE DAY
Here's a funny song that Trop Rocker Donny Brewer recorded on his last album, "The Jeans Song" with another noted Trop Rocker Stoney Gabel chiming in. " Donny called and asked if I would help him finish this song that was mostly written. I think my biggest contribution was the "shoehorn" line. Listen for it in the song.
Last year Donny got to play at the Bluebird Cafe here in Nashville for the first time and did this song, and it brought down the house. Works for me.

With AI everywhere, some folks are starting to collect old computers.
Who knows? Maybe they’ll become as valuable as old baseball cards.
Actor Tom Hanks collects typewriters. He has over 300 of them. And he types personal letters to fans and friends on some of those that he owns.
Me? I don’t miss changing ribbons, using white house and carbon paper. Nope.

SNAKE WHERE?
In Arkansas, they found a cottonmouth venomous snake in a football player’s helmet that he had been wearing for an hour. Coaches found it. Uh, that would have been my LAST football practice or game…ever! Geez.
FUNNY TOBY KEITH STORY
An Oklahoma guy once broke into Toby Keith’s estate in OK claiming that “The Lord sent him,” and then stole 4 Bud Lights from Toby’s garage fridge. He was convicted of second-degree burglary. Might have been the Lord who handed down the sentence.
IT AIN’T CHEAP
Talking about beautiful Jackson Hole, Wyoming, which is snuggled up against the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Home prices there have increased 2,000% in the last 30 years. Wow.
It is such a beautiful place. My friends Jenny Tolman and Dave Brainard got married just outside Jackson Hole. I hated that I had something on my calendar that would not allow me to be there and see this.

TODAY
I’m writing with yet another Bluegrass Songwriter of the Year today in Daryl Mosley. If you listen to his song, “Ask The Blind Man, He Saw It All” you’ll understand why he’s won that award. I’m going to have to work hard to hold my own today.
