Album Release Party...On The Chart...Making A Toast

BILL BLOG

Tuesday morning in Nashville, and everywhere else. 89 degrees for the high today in Music City. And already, we’ve spotted some leaves dropping from the trees. Fall is truly right around the corner.

YESTERDAY

Last night I attended Jenny Tolman’s album release party for “Music City Mutt.”

Jenny and her band, which featured her husband Dave Brainard, who produced the new album, rocked the house last night, performing every song on the album.

Jenny and I have written together for a very long time, and she acknowledged that last night during her show.

She took time to come off stage and chat with each songwriter who contributed to this project, including me. That was pretty special. She chatted with me just before she sang “California Girl”, a song she, Dave Brainard and I wrote about her Mom Kathy. Her Mom was out front manning her merchandise table, and I asked if she liked her song? She replied that it made her cry. That’s a compliment to a songwriter.

It was a really great evening. The album will be available everywhere come this Friday. Pick up a copy of “Music City Mutt.”!

MORE COUNTRY THAN YOU

Here’s a little VIDEO clip of my friend Alex Miller singing our song, “More Country Than You,” that I wrote with him and Emily Ann Roberts, who was his duet partner on that record, which is also the title track to Alex’s current album.

Alex is now inviting female country singers to join him on stage to sing that song wherever he is on tour. And this was the first young lady who joined him on stage at a Fair in Missouri that he played a few nights ago. And that’s what you’ll see when you click on the video clip above.

NICE CHART SURPRISE

Great to see the new Becky Denton song ‘Barefootin’ show up at #6 on this independent music chart that Becky and I wrote together.

This song is about those summer days out in the country with no shoes on. Really fun summer song. Congrats Becky!

HOT WEATHER

And this is a little VIDEO of my friend Spencer Hatcher out on tour and promoting his current song, “Hot Weather, Cold Beer,” that I wrote with him and his brother Connor, who you’ll see playing the bass guitar in this video clip, and our other co-writer is my longtime friend Steve Dean. It’s fun watching his audience get into this new song.

BRENT BURNS CRUISE

Just a little plug for my friend Brent Burns, who has put together an incredible land-cruise adventure to Portugal and other places. All the details will be released later today.

My wife Kathy and I were part of a Rhine River Cruise that Brent put together a few years ago, and it was spectacular from the ship to the food, to the folks who joined us, to watching castles float by sitting on the top deck.

I’m not sure if I’m going on this one quite yet with my wife; that depends on sales. So, sign up, so we have a chance to go as well!

SONG OF THE DAY

Here’s a funny song I wrote with former 'Hee Haw' star Gerald Smith,To TheGrave,” that Gerald recorded on one of his fun CD’s a few years ago. I had this idea that there are just some things in our lives that we should not share with anyone. You take those kinds of things with you “to the grave.” Fun song, check it out.

HEALTH NOTES

A study claims that those aged 40 or older should eat their first meal early, not late. Those who ate their first meal later, after noon specifically, had an increased risk of dying early from any cause by 29%.

Researchers have found that watching more than three hours of TV a day and having low levels of physical activity in early adulthood were associated with worse executive function and processing speed in midlife.

President Trump suggested that the MMR vaccine could be lethal. Dr. Oz is saying that’s not true.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

What kind of private event could that be?!

BACK IN STYLE AGAIN

That would be the mini-vans. Sales have jumped 21% for them in the last year alone. The average price for a new car today is around $50,000. A little more for some SUV’s and minivans, but folks are buying them like crazy.

I travel a lot with musical groups…in a rented minivan, much like the one pictured above. It’s hard to beat the room, and how practical they are. Admittedly, some are more attractive than others.

TOASTING YOUR HEALTH

Last night, Jenny Tolman’s album release party was held at a place here in town called “City Winery.” And with wine, making a toast is not far behind. Some toasts are funnier than others.

“A toast to bread! Because without bread, there would be no toast!”

“As you slide down the banister of life, may you miss all the splinters.”

And then there’s this classic birthday toast:

“May you celebrate this birthday the way you celebrated the first one…naked and screaming.”

ALL THUMBS

You should know that the 65th annual finger wrestling championship just wrapped up. I didn’t know either.

150 contestants battled with their fingers this year. The object is to pull your opponent across the table. Uh huh.

And if I was guessing, I’d bet that there’s been a sore loser who gave his opponent a finger.

CAREFUL WHAT YOU BELIEVE

Two women from Latvia just lost $175,000 to online “mystics” who claimed they could perform a magic ritual. They did. They made two women’s money disappear.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Erica Jong:

Show me a woman who doesn’t feel guilty, and I’ll show you a man.

TODAY

My writing session scheduled for today got moved to tomorrow morning, so that opens up my day. That leaves me time to catch up on stuff.

Have. Great Tuesday!
