A warm Tuesday has arrived. The heat is going to peak today at 95 before temperatures go back into the 80’s in Nashville.
YESTERDAY
I wrote a new song with Bill DiLuigi at my publishing company yesterday morning, from an idea he brought. Because I write for a company that has a bluegrass record label, oftentimes my co-writers will come in the building with their own bluegrass idea.
Bill’s song had a reference to rails and trains, and a girl leaving the guy. Yep, sounded like a bluegrass idea to me, and that’s what Mr. DiLuigi and I wrote.
Now all we have to do is find some bluegrass artist to record it. Simple!
SONG OF THE DAY
Speaking of trains and bluegrass songs. I’ve written a few with that kind of theme. Most notably this song, “Train,” that was recorded by bluegrass artist Kristy Cox. But before that, one of my co-writers recorded a great version of it on her album of that song that I wrote with her and our friend Steve Dean. Check out Daisy Mallory’s version of that song, as our song for today.
SPECIAL NIGHT
My dear friends are playing the Grand Ole Opry tonight.
And it’s hard to believe it’s been ten years since their Grammy-winning album “Love Remains,” produced by the great Ricky Skaggs, was released. I am immensely blessed that they recorded “Safe Haven,” which was written with Hillary Scott, Jimmy Fortune, and Sydni Perry, and was written about Lang’s father and Hillary and Rylee’s grandfather.
The song has moved hearts across the country. It touches the heart of anyone who has had a loss of someone they love so much. If you’ve not yet heard this song, click the link above. Every line is true about the man they lost in their lives.
Thank you to the family for recording and loving this song. How could that have been 10 years ago already?

WHERE DID THE KIDS GO?
The number of kids in a big city has declined 15% over the past ten years. Los Angeles and San Jose, California have lost the most, followed by New York City. Looks like some parents are making a thoughtful choice to raise their kids elsewhere.

I found a funny list that claims women do these things better than us guys.

GIT R DONE!
Larry The Cable Guy had to be taken to the hospital and have his appendix removed. This is what he posted.
“Pretty sore but vitals good, my butt looks fantastic and now just taking stool softeners which is giving me an urge to go to my mom’s assisted living facility and play bingo with the gals. I appreciate all the nice notes. I don’t know who ratted me out down there but this is the most press I’ve received since we announced Lightning Racers on Disney Jr coming in September! Love all ya’all”
I shared a stage with Larry several years ago at a huge outdoor country concert I was emceeing in Fort Loramie, Ohio. For the record? He’s a really nice guy, and he truly is who he is.
One of my favorite Larry the Cable Guy lines is this one. “Our whole wedding cost 180 bucks. Afterward, we reheated lasagna for everyone and set off fireworks.”
CHRISTMAS
Supposedly, these Tonieboxes are the hottest Christmas toy for kids this season.
They are intended for kids aged 1-12 with figures, activities, and games to keep them engaged. I guess pick-up sticks are no longer a hot Christmas item.
