Hump Day, Wednesday, has arrived with more heat. A high of 90 in Nashville today.

YESTERDAY

With my writing appointment rescheduled, my day was open. And that meant my lovely wife Kathy found something for me to do. She’s good at that. So we wound up picking up a couple of pieces of furniture to CARRY into the house.

Remind me to never let someone cancel their songwriting session with me. Plus, it was 95 or higher, and that’s without the heat index. Sigh.

I keep telling my wife I’m good with the furniture we bought back in 1912, but she won’t listen.

A husband once said, “When we got married, I said I’d move mountains for you…I never said anything about a sofa!

THE BLUEBIRD

A reminder that tickets for my Bluebird songwriter round next Wednesday night, August 5, with Mo Pitney, Wil Nance, and Brady Seals go on sale at 9 AM this morning Central Time. Be quick on the phone as all shows sell out instantly. Hope to see some of you there.

SONG OF THE DAY

Happy belated birthday to Lori King, who is a bluegrass singer up in Iowa. Lori recorded a song that I wrote with bluegrass songwriters Becky Buller and Tim Stafford titled “Mercy of a Train,” which she released as a single a couple of years ago. I’m making that my song for today.

HEALTH NOTES

More than 12,000 pounds of bacon have been recalled after the USDA issued a highest-risk alert.

Now a sixth person in NYC has died from Legionnaire’s Disease.

Survey says that more Americans now use weed every day than drink or smoke cigarettes.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Got that?

GAS

Gosh, back up to 4 bucks a gallon again. Up, down, up, down. One person claims they go and test drive cars, and while they’re doing that, they run some errands to save gas. There ya go!

AND…

Grocery prices are up 33%, the highest spike in 50 years. Good thing that the price of gas keeps us from driving to a grocery store on a regular basis.

BISCUITS

The online publication just ranked the best biscuits in the country. Here’s their Top 5.

5…KY Fried

4…McDonald’s

3...Red Lobster

2…Denny’s

And their #1 choice is Popeyes.

A lot of folks in the South swear by Hardee’s biscuits, but they didn’t make the list. My theory on biscuits is, if the biscuit doesn’t taste great, you’re not putting enough gravy on it.

LOT OF SHARKS

Proving once again that Guinness has a record for EVERYTHING. This woman broke a Guinness World Record by adding her 106th shark tattoo.

She’s a biologist and works with sharks. So there ya go.

I work with songwriters, but I’m pretty sure I won’t tattoo pictures of 106 of them on my back. Pretty sure.

D I V O R C E

Jelly Roll and his wife Bunnie Xo got divorced. You might have read or heard that 1,00 times.  Proving divorce is not all that bad, Bunny went out after the divorce and bought a half-million-dollar Rolls-Royce.

And once again, I’m wondering if some judge declared out loud, “Jelly Roll, you and Bunnie Xo” are divorced? Two of my favorite REAL names.

STOP THE MASCOT

How about the mascot for the Sacramento River Cats, a Triple-A baseball team for the A’s? The mascot gets on a scooter and runs over an opposing player!

The player is fine; the mascot has been sent to driver’s school. Here’s the VIDEO of that incident.

FULL BUCK MOON

That popped up in the sky last night. I was watching the Reds play Cleveland last night, and that moon was hanging in the sky over the stadium. Beautiful.

For the record, the “full buck” moon is named for when Bucks start to grow their antlers. We have three or four young bucks hanging in our backyard, showing off their developing racks right now. Quite the sight.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From QB Peyton Manning:

Pressure is something you feel when you don’t know what the hell you’re doing.

TODAY

I’m back with Jenny Tolman and Dave Brainard today for a writing session. We’re all excited about Jenny’s brand-new album that’s about to be released.

Her big album release party, with a full band, is just a few weeks away.

There’s a song on this project that the three of us wrote about Jenny’s close relationship with her Mom. Can't wait to hear her sing that with a full band.

Have a great Wednesday!
