Here comes a hot Monday. A 90-degree high is expected in Nashville today with a heat advisory.
THE WEEKEND
Friday afternoon, I had a great writing session with Lauren Mascitti and Kristen Bearfield at Lauren’s new publishing company, located just south of Nashville. It had been a while since Lauren and I had seen Kristen, so it was good to get this trio together again.
Kristen brought in a wonderful Christian song idea that we tore into it, and just about the time we finished it, a heck of a storm with loud and vivid lightning popped up. And we knew we were not going anywhere soon. So, I had a fun idea I had started on, shared it with the two of them, they loved it, and we wound up writing TWO new songs on Friday afternoon.
And then we got some good news from Kristen, who found out that the next Kristy Cox single is going to be a song the three of us wrote titled “No Regrets.”
That made Lauren and my day. This will be the first song of Kristy’s new album, to be released this year. Thank you, Kristy.
So, Friday was a very good day for this trio.
FLATTERING
That would be this VIDEO of the French Family Band playing some songs off their new album “Huon to Hickory.”
And it’s extremely flattering, because the three songs they chose to play on this video are songs I’m a writer on.
Such a talented family, down to earth, and that comes across in the video. Click on the link above to watch and hear Stuie, Camille, and Sonny sing those three songs acoustically in a back-yard mini-concert.
LITTLE GIRL SONG
Several years ago, I wrote a song about my friend Paul Bogart’s daughter Gentry, who had just been born, titled “While She’s Mine.”
This weekend, Paul posted this little VIDEO showing how much she has grown since we wrote that song.
Gosh, they grow so quickly.
SONG OF THE DAY
Speaking of Lauren Mascitti. This is a song I wrote with her and the great Jimmy Fortune, “The Apple on the Tree,” that I’ve mentioned here on the Blog a time or two. Last Wednesday night, I was a guest of Lauren’s at a musical party to celebrate her new publishing deal.
When I got up, I sang that song, with Lauren singing harmony, and her Nana filmed it. Check out the song and video at the link above.

My wife Kathy has another book signing coming up on August 8 from 1-4 pm at the “Buchanan Log House.”
The house is located in Donelson, Tennessee, and has a rich history.
Should be fun to meet some new folks and sell some more books!
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY
To my dear friend and longtime member of our family, Dodge Raymer, back in Missouri. I forgot to post this last Friday on his 93rd birthday!
So awesome. My entire family sends our love, Dodge! 93 years young.
ANOTHER GUINNESS RECORD
Over the weekend here in Nashville, the largest “songwriter round” was created. 100 songwriters gathered, each of them singing an original song, and that broke the record.
Songwriter rounds are a thing here in Nashville, where three or four, or 100 songwriters gather and take turns singing their original songs.
SPEAKING OF WHICH
I’m happy to be part of this great songwriter round coming up on August 5 at the Bluebird Café.
We won’t be breaking a Guinness World Record, but man, this is going to be a great evening of music.
BIG HOLE
I was talking to a longtime friend out in LA over the weekend that California is full of wildfires, mudslides, traffic, AND a massive sinkhole.
I had not heard about that until she mentioned it. A water main break is to blame for that one. And my friend somehow loves living in LA.
GAS
It’s back up in the $4 gallon range again. Someone should open a chain of gas stations named Yo-Yo gas, as much as it goes up and down.
SHE GOT A POLE
An 82-year-old woman in Italy has been named the world’s oldest “competitive” pole dancer in the world.
I’m not sure which is harder for my brain to process. The fact that she’s 82 and on a pole, or the fact that there’s such a thing as “competitive” pole dancing.
GOOD JOB
Some experts thought that AI might replace radiologists. Not so fast. The opposite seems to be the case. Demand has increased for radiologists, and the average pay right now is $571,000 a year.
YOU CAN’T DO THAT
A man in Colorado rode on top of a moving train with no clothes on. This will be hard for you to believe. They arrested him. You have to wonder what makes a person wake up and think to himself, “You know what I think I’m going to do today?”

In Australia, a busy Mom sends her pre-teen to AI to talk about any difficult problems she might be having. Mom is too busy.
Maybe we can get the authorities who arrested that naked train-riding guy to sit down with AI to discuss his problems?

I have a Zoom interview with my “Evening in the Round” partners, Linda Davis and Lang Scott. We’ll be promoting a concert coming up in Concord, North Carolina, at the Davis Theatre on November 15 at 4 pm that afternoon.
