And…it’s Friday! Bring on the weekend. 89 degrees high today in Music City…and back into the mid 90’s in a few days.
YESTERDAY
I was in the writing room with Linda Davis and Caroline Owens yesterday, tough work, huh?
I think we did a LOT more talking than rhyming, and laughing, but we did get a great song out of it, from an idea Caroline brought. She played the guitar, Linda played piano, and I just sat in the corner and tried to look pretty.
Caroline is a big fan of Linda’s, like a lot of us are, so I was very happy that I could help make that session happen.
I have a feeling we’ll be doing this trio-writing thing again.
SPEAKING OF LINDA
My next "Evening in the Round" show with Linda and her husband Lang Scott will be August 22 at the Heritage Hall Theatre in Mountain City, Tennessee.
It's a 7 pm show. Come see us if you can!
MO MO
It won’t die. That Sasquatch in Louisiana, Missouri, that I recorded a record about a long, long time ago. Some folks in Louisiana, Missouri, reached out to me yesterday about using the song for a commercial for five years. Amazing.
I’ll let you know how that works out.
HEALTH FOOD
My daughter Heather reached out to me yesterday from Phoenix. After being in Germany for over three years, she and her husband Casey are glad to be back in the States and ready to move into a new home in Yuma within a few weeks.
She sent me this picture with a note saying that she REALLY felt like she was back home after finding this on a grocery shelf.
If you know, ya know. And certainly you know if you’ve spent any time in Cincinnati.
SONG OF THE DAY
Today I’m selecting another Brent Burns co-write on the song, ’66 Mustang Summer of ’82’. Brent had a 1966 red convertible Mustang for part of his life. Some of the memories of driving that car are captured in this summer song. You can almost see him driving down a beach road with the top rolled down.
HEALTH NOTES
The FDA has approved Merck’s cholesterol-lowering pill, the first oral treatment of its kind.
Good news. Kids with the deadliest brain cancers are surviving for years after breakthrough cell therapy.
An antibody treatment halts aggressive prostate cancer in early trials.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
I’m not sure I want any of that.
IT AIN’T ALL REAL
Reportedly, over 300 titles on Netflix used AI. Hard to know what’s real, and what isn’t anymore. There’s a ton of AI music out there, with more coming. There’s a movement to make folks like Spotify tell their listeners whether the song they’re listening to is AI-generated or real. It would affect other platforms as well.
There’s a lot of stuff to listen to out there that was generated by folks who can’t really write lyrics, and or music. But, with AI, they can just prompt it to create a song from an idea, and then they can post it online and sell it if they want to. Without being able to sing or play a lick.
And to tell you the truth, I don’t know if the consumer really cares or not.
TIPS FOR GUYS
Dating experts listed 5 things women find attractive about men. Those things are:
Kindness
Confidence
Making her laugh
Having something you actually look forward to
And…being able to connect emotionally.
Comedian Chris Rock says, “There are only three things women need in life. Food, water, and compliments.”
SOCCER
The World Cup Finals are this Sunday. Spain vs Argentina. Though soccer is NOT my thing, I may tune in for a second. Or maybe not. I can’t get into that game. And I’ve tried.
I kind of agree with what this guy said about soccer.
“My favorite position in soccer is right back. Right back in the locker room, where there’s a TV showing a different sport.”
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Stewart Stafford:
“Marriage is the Rubik’s Cube of the 21st century…something young people are fascinated with, but have no idea how to do.”
TODAY
I’m rhyming today with Lauren Mascitti and Kristen Bearfield for the first time in a long while. This trio seems to be a pretty good combination as we’ve had a couple of our songs recorded, one of them by Darin & Brooke Aldridge, “Where You’ll Find Me.”
I’m hoping we can create that kind of magic again today.
Have a great weekend!
