And the last Monday of July is on us…already! We had a little storm roll through last night, and today it warms up to 92 in Nashville.
And the heat is ramping up even higher. 100 million Americans are under heat alerts.
Our daughter and son-in-law now live in Yuma, Arizona, where it was 109 yesterday, and this coming Friday the expected high is 114 degrees!
THE WEEKEND
Saturday, my wife Kathy and I made a trip to Eaton, Indiana, which is just north of Muncie. Some friends of ours were celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary! And they chose me to be their entertainment.
Congratulations to Kenny and Caroline Owen, who have been friends for a long while.
Eaton is up in corn and soybean country, just north of Muncie, Indiana. It looked pretty much like the landscape I grew up in back in Missouri. Real folks. And they had a great turnout of family and friends.
After the dinner and entertainment (me) we spent some time at their home that Kenny built, a log home which overlooks hundreds and hundreds of acres they own up there. God’s country for sure. Kenny and Carol Ann have another house they keep in Nashville, and that’s how we got to know them. Kathy actually met Carol Ann at an airport as she and Kenny were headed to Hawaii, and Kathy was headed to LA to meet our daughter for a weekend on the West Coast. They hit it off, and we’ve been friends ever since.
Safe to say, it’s the only 70th wedding anniversary I’ve played at. But I did tell Kenny, I’ll be happy to play again when they hit 100
Happy Anniversary.
PRESSURE
Last night after getting home from the Indiana trip, I put my feet up and watched the movie “Pressure” that’s available on Prime right now.
Brendan Fraser plays Dwight D. Eisenhower, who is trying to get a weather forecast that will allow him to invade Normandy. The movie is not about the invasion itself, but about an English meteorologist who helped Eisenhower make the correct call by delaying the invasion by one day.
I wouldn’t call it a great movie, but it was interesting just finding out how important that decision was, based on weather. Here’s the TRAILER.

Since it is so HOT everywhere, here’s a hot song from young country artist Spencer Hatcher that I wrote with him and his brother Connor, along with my friend Steve Dean. “Hot Weather, Cold Beer.” This is the current single for Spencer, and it got him out in a lake with a guitar in this VIDEO.

Research concludes that the longest a human being can live in the future, even with anti-aging products, healthier choices, science, you name it, will be between 146 and 194 years old. I’ll take it! The average life expectancy now is 79.

Word is that the popularity of Taylor Sheridan’s hit series Yellowstone has caused the price of ranches in the area to shoot up high. There’s been a 122% increase in the last 10 years alone.

AI EYE OPENER
In an interview, Elon Musk said that he believes within just a few years, artificial intelligence will exceed human intelligence, and there could be as many as one billion humanoid robots, and an AI-fueled “age of abundance” that will make cash meaningless.
“There really won’t be anything AI won’t be able to do better than humans, apart from being human perhaps,” he said.
So we’ve got “human” going for us folks.
CASUAL EVERY DAY
A leading designer claims that nobody is dressing up nicely anymore. That we go to work in offices, as men and women oftentimes wear shorts, and not long pants. The designer blames COVID. We stayed at home and worked in our pajamas sometimes.
And I don’t think a lot of guys stop at a shoeshine stand anymore.
There was a time in my life I actually wore a suit to work, and on my lunch break, I’d sit and have my shoes shined on the street.
I have to say, I don’t miss that. It’s good being a musician.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
That’s right around the corner. And with that, USA Today just listed their top 5 college football stadiums in America.
5…Auteen Stadium in Oregon.
4…Kyle Field, Texas A&M.
3…Beaver Stadium, Penn State.
2…Ohio Stadium, Ohio State
And their #1 stadium choice is LSU’s Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. Or, “Death Valley” as they like to call it.
Somehow, they once again missed my alma mater’s college stadium in Warrensburg, Missouri, home of the “Fighting Mules.”!
MISSED!
How about the Circus couple at a fair in New York doing their thing? Their thing is, the husband holds up a foam target, and the wife tries to hit it with an arrow. Over the weekend, she missed and hit him in the neck, sending him to the hospital.
I’ve decided I’m not going to put an apple on my head for my wife’s enjoyment.

TODAY
I’m writing with my Italian buddy Bill DiLuigi this morning. Bill holds the distinction of being the last songwriter to have a song released by the great Bonnie Tyler of “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “It’s A Heartache.”
Bonnie passed away unexpectedly, but not before she recorded this great song, “Yes I Can,” that Bill helped write.
So we’ll have fun today writing something new together.
