Memorial Day...Two On The Charts...New Single Release

BILL BLOG

Monday, May 25, 2026

Happy Memorial Day Monday. 79 for a high today in Nashville with more rain. We needed rain, but not nearly as much as we are getting. We’ve had rain now for 3 or 4 days, and there is rain in the forecast for at least another week or more. Does anyone have the number for Noah?

THE WEEKEND

Mine started Friday morning, writing with my longtime friend Steve Dean, who brought a beach-country song idea to the table that we wrote.

Steve and I have easily written 50 or more songs together over the years. Add one more to the pile. We surely had fun writing this one.

The two of us will be flying on Wednesday to Chicago, O'Hare, for Freedom Sings USA, along with three other Nashville songwriters, to write songs with veterans in the town of Elmhurst, Illinois. The other writers on this trip will be Wil Nance, Bill DiLuigi, and Bobby Tomberlin

BLUEGRASS DOUBLE HITTER

Some great chart news came in on Friday. I found out that Laura Leigh Jones and I have not 1, but 2 songs together on the Bluegrass Today Chart. “Sun Can’t Stop the Rain” came back on the chart.

And our Dailey & Vincent song, “Moon Shines on the Still,” hung on to the #2 slot.

I think this is the first time I’ve had two songs I helped write on a chart at the same time, much less two songs with the same co-writer. Thankful to Laura Leigh, who brought both of these ideas to the table.

PAYTON HOWIE

It was fun seeing this little video clip posted from Texas country artist Payton Howie, singing part of a song the two of us wrote with Brady Seals, "Truck Bed",  from a Las Vegas hotel room balcony. The lyrics in this song, “Truck Bed,” mention Vegas, and you’ll hear that in this little video CLIP. Payton should be recording a new album soon that will include our tune.

HERE COMES THE SUN AGAIN

I just found out this morning that the talented French Family Band released a single to the radio that I wrote with Sonny French of the family band, and my friend Angus Gill titled “Here Comes the Sun Again.” Check out this little VIDEO tease allowing you to hear a bit of the song, and you’ll see a great review of it as well.

That song will be on their brand-new album coming out soon, with an album release party on June 12 at the Station Inn here in Nashville. I’m so blessed to have this song on it, as well as two other songs the family recorded. I’ll be there at the Station Inn to root them on.

SONG OF THE DAY

I’ve posted this before, but it seems appropriate to post it today, as it is Memorial Day.

This song, “151,” was a song I wrote with veteran Art Fager in Marion, Illinois.

He led 151 young men into battle for a year in Iraq. He came home with all but one, Sgt. Brian Romines.

This VIDEO tells the story of that young man who was filmed in Marion at an outdoor concert. You’ll see me, Art Fager, and Brian Romines, Gold Star Mom Melinda Clary on stage. It was truly some kind of moment. Here’s to those like that young soldier on this Memorial Day.

HEALTH NOTES

High hantavirus levels have been found in rodents in parts of the US, suggesting greater exposure risk, according to a study.

Another study suggests that GLP-1 drugs may reduce the risk of cancer progression.

The CDC has added Ebola screening at the Atlanta airport amid the ongoing epidemic.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

I don’t think they’re using AI for any of their graphics.

UP AND DOWN

Still going up. Some experts are saying to brace for $5 a gallon to fill up. Some states have already surpassed that.

Also going up is the stock market, which broke a record high on Friday by surging 300 points. It’s now at $50,830, 24.

MORE ON AI

Recently, several commencement speakers have been booed for telling students to adapt to AI. There seems to be no stopping it.

But over the weekend, Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, reminded students at Grand State University in Michigan that they already have AI. “Actual intelligence.” And that got a loud cheer of approval.

ON THE LOOSE

On the streets of Duson, Louisiana, over the weekend, the Zoo and authorities were out chasing a loose emu. Nobody knows where it came from. I bet that this guy was looking for him.

MEANWHILE…

In New Jersey, a bear walked up onto a porch and rang the doorbell.

What in the wide, wide world of animals is going on here!?

BUY ME SOME PEANUTS

Be still, my baseball heart. The Major League Baseball commissioner has made it official that there will be expansion in the Major Leagues within the next two years. Two more teams will be added. And the two cities that are frontrunners?  Salt Lake City, and NASHVILLE!

There’s a committee that’s been hard at work for a year in Music City, working to make this happen. So much so that they already have an idea of what our stadium would look like.

When and where can I buy tickets?

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Mae West:

I generally avoid temptation, unless I can’t resist it.”

TODAY

It is indeed Memorial Day, so I’m going to enjoy the day off, and maybe grill a hot dog.

And let us not forget those who “gave all.”

 Have a great Monday.
