BILL BLOG

Friday morning, it’s the first of May, and the weekend is on us. And I’m packed for a road trip today. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.
I am packing a jacket. The high today in Music City is just 64, and tomorrow the high will be just 63 with a low tomorrow night of 39. And I’m playing an OUTDOOR concert!
YESTERDAY
A pretty uneventful day yesterday. Thursday was mostly about getting my “ducks in a row” for the trip this weekend. I’ve got 4 musical road trips between now and the early part of June. I’ll be in Marion, Heyworth, and Elmhurst, Illinois, between now and then, and also in Durham, North Carolina, in early June. All four of these trips are “writing with a veteran” trips.
As always, details on these 4 shows and others are available under the TOUR tab on my website here.
SONG OF THE DAY
Today I’m picking out one of the first songs I ever wrote with my friend Brent Burns. By now, he’s probably recorded well over 60 songs we’ve written together. But we were really just getting to know each other when we wrote, “Men Fake It Too.” Still funny today as far as I’m concerned.
HEALTH NOTES
One of the side effects of weight loss drugs is having what they call “Ozempic Breath.” Bad breath. And there’s also Ozempic teeth, Ozempic mouth, Ozempic fingers, and even Ozempic butt. Uh huh.
The good news is that there is an active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy that shows early promise for treating alcohol use disorder among those with obesity.
And…a new study says that obesity increases heart risk failure but weight loss can reverse it.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Duly noted.
PRICES GOING UP
Energy prices are now at a 4-year high. It doesn’t appear that gas prices will go down anytime soon. I’ve got some musical friends who are in Key West right now for a festival who report that gas is 5 bucks a gallon there.
Yep, I’ll be adding the “Dipstick Song” to my show list again, that features lyrics like:
There’s oil down in Texas
And lots of Oklahoma drills
But all the dipsticks are on Capitol Hill
Can I get an OPEC Amen?
SLOW DOWN
If you’re in Wisconsin, and you see this sign.
Slow down. And put your cruise control on 17.3.
SPOTIFY
Can you tell the difference between AI music and real music? Most can’t. But Spotify claims it will help you by putting badges on REAL music rather than AI-generated music.
BEE ARREST
How about the woman who went to jail because she unleashed a swarm of bees on the police during an eviction dispute?
There are some things you can’t make up, folks.
AMISH
How about this funny sign spotted on the back of an Amish buggy in Pennsylvania that reads:
“Energy-efficient vehicle: Runs on oats and grass. Caution: Do not step in exhaust.”
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Bill Vaughn:
“Money won’t buy happiness, but it will pay the salaries of a large research staff to study the problem.”
TODAY
I’m off to Shelbyville, Tennessee, for a gathering with veterans.
Tonight, we will have a Meet and Greet, followed by a little songwriter show. Then, on Saturday, each songwriter will write with a veteran, and then sing those songs in an outdoor concert on the square. Free and open to the public.
Have yourself a great weekend!
