Old Friends...Easter Weekend...Hallelujah Anyway

BILL BLOG

Monday, April 6, 2026

Monday has rolled around again. We had some rain over the weekend, and that cooled us down a bit. In fact, it’s just 37 degrees as I start the Blog this morning, a high of 70 coming up later today. Heck, I had to drag the space heater out one more time this morning.

THE WEEKEND

On Good Friday, I got a “good” text from some old friends, Kevin Stone and his wife, Lisa Shaffer. Lisa was the original girl singer in our songwriter trio “Hits & Grins.”

They and their three growing kids were on their way to New Orleans to take a cruise, and they stopped for lunch in Nashville. They own a little farm now up in Northern Kentucky, near Cincinnati, and it was a treat getting to see them again and catch up on their lives.

I surely miss sitting alongside Lisa singing harmony to some of her great songs like THIS ONE.

It was a great way to start the weekend.

HALLELUJAH ANYWAY

On the Friday Blog, I posted a new song I co-wrote with Adam Pope that he and his wife Amy recorded, and then released it over the Easter weekend.

Really proud to be a part of this song that our mutual friend Darin Aldridge produced.

Yesterday, Adam released this LYRIC VIDEO of the song. So, if you haven’t listened yet, click the link to listen and see the lyrics.

WEATHER

We had perfect weather in Nashville yesterday. Sun, and it was in the 60’s on Easter, so that meant getting a little yard work done after spending most of Saturday watching my Reds and March Madness. My Reds swept the Rangers, and Michigan and UConn advanced to the finals tonight in Indianapolis.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today I’m choosing the song “Gone To See America” that I wrote with Steve Dean, and Pensacola music artist Jessie Ritter. The song is true to who Jessie is. She loves to travel with her husband and kids.

She tells the complete story about this song in the link above, how it was created, and then recorded. And then you get to hear Jessie sing an acoustic version of our song. Check it out.

HEALTH NOTES

A new study suggests that even occasional binge drinking could triple the risk of liver problems.

Scientists say that frogs at Chornobyl are turning darker in color as they adapt to radiation.

A Florida father just got his heart transplant. It took seven years, a record for waiting on a heart.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Good idea.

EXPENSIVE FLUSH

The Artemis II, which is moon-bound, has an expensive toilet onboard. No porcelain involved, it’s made of titanium. And it cost 23 million dollars.

That’s the SECOND most expensive toilet ever. The most expensive was a toilet onboard the Endeavour back in 1992, with a 30-million-dollar price tag.

And you just know there was a $19 Walmart plunger sitting on the floor next to both of them.

NEW WAY TO VOTE

Word it that one day we may be able to cast our votes by phone. Well, that should eliminate the chance of having any hanging chads.

JOKE

“Armstrong,” the boss said. “I happen to know that the reason you didn’t come to work was that you were playing golf.”

“That’s a rotten lie!” Armstrong replied. “And I have the fish to prove it!”

RATS

The DC rat population has apparently grown out of control. So much so that they are now feeding rats birth control, trying to curb the population.  And I think they are talking about the rodent kind of rats, not the politician kind…I think.

EASTER THING

This picture made me laugh over the Easter weekend.

Yep, I’m betting their baskets are pretty full.

GATORS

Not something you see every day. A six-foot alligator delayed a flight in Georgia after making itself at home on the taxiway. Crews ran out and safely removed the Gator. Must have been an interesting intercom message when the pilot let the passengers know why they were just sitting on the runway.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Unknown:

Chocolate is God’s way of telling us he likes us a little chubby.

TODAY

I’m back at the writing table today. I’ll be writing with Kevin Williamson, the head of Williamson Branch, the family bluegrass band.

And tonight, I’ll be watching Michigan play UConn for the championship. I don’t bet on games, but if I did, it would be hard to bet against the Wolverines tonight after watching them decimate pretty much everyone else they have played so far. But, ya never know!

Have a great Monday!
