We’ve rolled into a Thursday morning. We will hit 82 for a high today in Nashville.

Those weather folks are calling for the chance of severe weather starting tomorrow night, with the worst of it coming Monday. I’m hoping that we won’t have to try out our new generator for the first time.

YESTERDAY

With my songwriting appointment cancelled, I had time to get out a little and enjoy the great weather we’re having in Nashville right now. The calm before the heat that’s surely coming soon. And I pitched a couple of songs to folks, a constant part of the songwriter process.

I always tell those looking for advice on how to get their songs recorded that, in truth, writing the song is the easier part of the process. Getting someone to actually listen, and or record your song? That’s the true challenge. I’ve been blessed that several of mine have found their way to a recording studio and an artist. Grateful for each one of those, including the brand-new single from Dailey and Vincent, “Moonshine On The Still,” that I wrote with Laura Leigh Jones.

SONG OF THE DAY

I don’t think I’ve posted this one in a long while. This is the very first major recording I had in Nashville, and it was Cledus T. Judd who recorded “If George Strait Starts Dancing, Somebody Shoot Me In The Head.”

The song happened when I watched the CMA Awards show one night many years ago, and they ran dancers out on stage with the likes of Lee Ann Womack and Alan Jackson. I thought that was the STUPIDEST thing I’d ever seen on a COUNTRY award show, and the song came pouring out.

The very next day, I was on Music Row and played it for a friend, producer Steve Ivey. And he took that copy of the unfinished song and walked it over to the producer of Cledus, they liked it, and Cledus and his producer Chris Clarke added a couple more verses…and there ya go. Being in the right place at the right time doesn’t hurt your chances.

HEALTH NOTES

Researchers in Oklahoma say that they have discovered a hormone that can reverse obesity.

Flesh-eating bacteria have been found in Long Island waters, which leaves victims with a 20% chance of dying in 48 hours.

Health experts say that rectal cancer deaths are rising rapidly among millennials, and they are calling it a health crisis.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Got it.

FLYING

It’s going to get expensive this summer. United is saying it will jack ticket prices up by as much as 20% because of the rise in oil prices since the Iran War began. Fuel prices have doubled, so customers should brace themselves for sticker shock when it comes to the price of flying this summer.

I have one flight coming up in May for a Freedom Sings event near Chicago. Pretty glad I’m not paying for that ticket.

SPEAKING OF TRAVELING

By car, you can pull over and see some really weird roadside attractions…if you want. Like this one.

And if you don't want to pull over and see "Carhenge"...how bout this.

And who wouldn’t slam on the brakes to see this?

IN THE SHIRT!

I watch a lot of baseball. And in all the years of watching baseball, I have never seen a pitcher catch a line drive with his shirt. Until yesterday. Watch THIS CATCH

Kids, if you’re going to be a baseball pitcher, don’t waste your money on a baseball glove. Just learn to catch with your shirt.

ROCK N’ ROLL

Ultimate Classic Rock just listed the Top 100 rock songs of all time, in their opinion. Here’s their Top 5.

5…Pink Floyd…”Comfortably Numb”

4…The Beatles…”A Day In the Life”

3…Nirvana…”Smells Like Team Spirit”

2…Queen…”Bohemian Rhapsody”

And their number 1 choice for “Best Rock Song of All Time” is…Le Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

This one from Steve Maraboli deals with success.

If you hang out with chickens, you’re going to cluck. If you hang out with eagles, you’re going to fly.”

TODAY

I’ve got another off day to enjoy. Then tonight I’ll spend some time watching young men get rich when the NFL Draft starts.

Have a great Thursday!
