Another Hump Day to get over. It’s Wednesday, and it will be warm. The high today in Music City will be 86.
And the taxman cometh.
YESTERDAY
Andrea Pearson and I got together and wrote a “barn-burner” of a bluegrass song. VERY up-tempo. Something that gives the “pickers” a chance to show off their skill set.
We are targeting a specific artist who is looking for this kind of song, so fingers are crossed that the artist might like it.
Andrea has been in the studio herself lately. She’s going to put out a song and video of a tune the two of us wrote with our friend Wil Nance that will be released over this upcoming Mother’s Day weekend, titled “When You’ve Got A Good Mama.” All three of us have great “Mama’s.” Wil’s Mama is actually living with him right now, as is Andrea’s. My Mom passed many years ago, but was certainly a “Good Mama.”
Can’t wait to share this song over Mama’s Day weekend.
SPEAKING OF ANDREA
Both of us were happy to see that the #1 song we wrote for our friend Caroline Owens, “Telluride,” is up on the early ballot for an IBMA Award.
Very cool. And it’s not the only song on the ballot…
SONG OF THE DAY
A surprise!
The song “Church Bells A Ringin’” that was included on Rick Lang’s album “Blue Collar Gospel,” which he and I wrote, and the great bluegrass artist Danny Paisley recorded with some other all-star bluegrass singers, is on the ballot for the IBMA Awards that will be held in August in Chattanooga.
Completely unexpected. It’s got a long way to go to win, but it’s nice to see the song get this kind of recognition from our bluegrass peers. So here’s your SONG OF THE DAY.
HEALTH NOTES
A new study claims that men who become obese before the age of 30 face a nearly 80% higher chance of premature death.
A new study finds that ultra-processed foods are harmful to muscle health.
The CDC warns of a diarrhea-causing infection that’s increasing in the U.S.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Who knew?
SUBTLE FREQUENCY
Congrats to my wife Kathy, whose book Subtle Frequency was just added to a great bookstore in Cincinnati. That’s her hometown, and where I spent over 12 years doing morning radio.
The plan is to do a book signing somewhere in the not-too-distant future in Cincinnati.
In the meantime, remember you can get a copy online from almost any source.
THEM AND US
Rolls-Royce is rolling out this blue bad boy.
It’s called the “Nightingale,” and only 100 of these will be made. The cost? Between 3.5 and 9.5 MILLION dollars. A steal. Heck, I ordered two .
BUC-EE’S
They just opened the first one in Ohio. How did the day go? The Beaver took in over a MILLION on its first day. That’s a lot of people crowded in one store waiting for “Brisket on the board!!!”.
WHICH ONE?
Which one of these should I buy on Amazon right now?
This sculpted ab fanny-pack?
This chicken nugget necklace?
Or…this singing pickle?
I’m leaning towards the pickle. What do you think?
MOST MOVED TO STATE?
Last year it was Texas. The Lone Star State this year dropped out of the top 5.
This year, the most moved to state in the country is Idaho. And the “Spud” state is followed in order by South Carolina, Alaska, North Carolina, and Maine.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From comedian Mitch Hedberg:
“My fake plants died because I did not pretend to water them.”
TODAY
I’m in the writing room with Mark BonDurant, an Ohio friend who is also a writer at my publishing company. Mark retired as a pharmacist a few years ago and is now a full-time songwriter. And he has a sense of humor like mine.
And, our mutual friend Alex Miller will be joining us. And Alex is celebrating the release of his new album with a “title track” that I helped write, and one other song as well.
We’ll have lots to talk about and celebrate before we ever write a word.
Have a great Wednesday!
