BILL BLOG

Tuesday, March 24, 2026

Tuesday morning arises, and it’s a little cooler for a second day in Nashville. A high of 67 today.

YESTERDAY

I sat down and wrote a new up-tempo bluegrass song with Bill DiLuigi yesterday at my publishing company.

Bill doesn’t write a whole lot of “grassy” songs, so it was fun creating one with him. Bill is one of the writers in our Freedom Sings USA group who writes songs with veterans, and on Monday, May 18, Bill and I will have the honor of singing some of those songs to those veterans returning to Marion, Illinois, at the Marion Airport that day. We’re both looking forward to being part of that great event.

DOES HE LOVE YOU

I have the pleasure of hearing my dear friend Linda Davis sing the iconic duet that she recorded with Reba every night during our “Evening in the Round” shows. Linda gets a guest up from whatever town we are in to sing part of it with her, and that’s highly entertaining. But not everyone has apparently heard Linda.

My sister, by another mother, Stacey Schimpf, called me last night to ask if I had seen the “reaction” video to that song? I had not. My wife found it this morning, and it’s VERY entertaining. My favorite part is when these two realize that Linda can “sang!”. Why yes, she can. Watch this fun VIDEO.

 THIS WEEK

I was at the Station Inn Monday night as a guest of Lauren Mascitti, getting to sit in with her great band.

And tomorrow night I’ll be right back at the Station Inn to play at the Tin Pan South Songwriter Festival with my friends Kristy Cox, Alex Miller, and Jerry Salley. Show time is 9 pm. We’ll be singing original songs, hits for other artists, and telling the stories behind those songs. Great event. If you’re in town, grab a ticket and join us.

HALL OF FAME

The Country Music Hall of Fame will induct the Stanley Brothers (giants of bluegrass music), songwriter Paul Overstreet, who wrote a ton of hits like “Forever and Ever Amen” for Randy Travis, “Some Beach” for Blake Shelton, and “Love Can Build a Bridge” for The Judds, to name a few, along with Tim McGraw.

Congrats to all three, all more than deserving. Pretty sure Tim wasn’t thinking about the HOF all those years ago when I interviewed him on the radio.

A COUNTRY STAR HAVING DUNN-FUN

That would be Kacey Musgraves, who snuck into one of the Lower Broadway Bars this past weekend disguised as Ronnie Brooks of Brooks and Dunn. Check out this VIDEO of her with the band.

SONG OF THE DAY

Something special today. I found this VIDEO over the weekend when I sang veteran Art Fager’s song titled “151” up in Marion, Illinois. The song is about the 150 kids he managed to bring home from Iraq. He took “151” with him. When I performed the song to a big “live” audience, the Gold Star Mom and that boy who lost his life joined us. I won’t say more, as the video tells the story. Quite the moving experience that night.

HEALTH NOTES

A new study found that dads’ likelihood of developing depression and stress-related disorders jumps by more than 30% toward the end of their child’s first year.

Health agencies are warning that Europe is missing 1 out of 5 tuberculosis cases as drug resistance rises.

Some doctors say those over 50 should not shower every day. As we get older, they say our skin tends to produce less oil, and it becomes thinner as we lose collagen. That makes it easier for the skin to dry out if we shower too frequently. Some dermatologists suggest showering two to three times a week.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Well there ya go.

SPEAKING OF SIGNS

The Department of Transportation in Texas will no longer be sending signs to the small town of Bug Tussle, Texas.

That’s because folks keep stealing these signs.

The population is just 15 people, and their signs keep disappearing. I’m not sure what’s more interesting. The fact that the signs get stolen, or the fact that there is actually a town named “Bug Tussle.”

AGING WITH A GOOD MEAL

Actress Shirley MacLaine is 91 years young. Is she drinking Ensure for lunch? Nope. She’s having oysters with a beer.

Here’s to that.

THE MASTERS

This year, country star Thomas Rhett is going to be singing the iconic song “Georgia” that the folks at ESPN will wear out for their part of covering the Masters golf tournament in Augusta, which is coming up in early April. What will that sound like? Here’s a SNEAK PEEK of him recording it in the studio.

WEIRD YOGA

There are all kinds of odd ways you can do yoga. You can do Goat Yoga, Hot Yoga, Naked Yoga, Heavy Metal Yoga, and now…Sword Yoga.

Yep. Folks are doing downward dog poses, carrying a two-bladed sword in yoga pants.

QUITE THE HEADLINE HERE

“What an Incredible Adventure”: FEMA official claims he once involuntarily teleported 50 miles to a Waffle House in Georgia.

Heck, if it’s a Waffle House, they could teleport me voluntarily. I’ll go!

MIAMI VICE

A new movie is on the way. I was a big fan of the TV show starring Sonny, played by Don Johnson, and Ricardo Tubbs, played by Philip Michael Tubbs

Right now, it looks like they are going after Austin Butler, who was incredible as “Elvis” in that movie, to play Crockett.

And Michael B. Jordan, who just won an Oscar, will play Tubbs.

Yep, I’d go see that.

HIGH GAS SPEECH

With gas prices going up and up, over 8 bucks a gallon in parts of California, the Billy Bob Thornton speech about oil in his hit series Landman has gone viral again. If you’ve not seen this, watch this GREAT SCENE. (And there’s some raw language)

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Unknown:

I once asked God to send me the right woman. He sent me on so right that I’m always wrong.

TODAY

I’ll be online writing with my buddy Tim Stafford over in Knoxville this morning. Tim is getting ready to record a solo project that will include at least one of our co-writes. Can’t wait to hear those.

Have a great Tuesday!
