Thursday it is. Sunny and 73 in Nashville today, and come Sunday, we’ll hit 87 for a high! And we were in the low 30’s just a couple of days ago.
Yesterday we mowed our lawn for the first time this year. I think winter is done with. Such a good thing.
YESTERDAY
My friend Rick Lang was in town, making another of his regular trips from New Hampshire to Nashville. And yesterday, the two of us wrote a “patriotic” song from an idea Rick had. I’m always happy to join in on those kinds of songs.
Before we started on that idea, Rick gave me one of these.
That’s an album that I produced for him recently with the help of AI. The album is full of beach songs that Rick has written through the years after exploring so many islands with his wife. The one exception is a song the two of us wrote titled “Where The Palm Trees Sway”.
These will be Christmas gifts this year for Rick to send to family and friends, which is pretty cool. So I got two gifts yesterday. A new song, and this album is loaded with great beach tunes.
BIG TIME CONGRATULATIONS
To my dear musical friends, Darin & Brooke Aldridge. They are going to be inducted into the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, this Saturday.
I can’t think of anyone who deserves this kind of recognition any more than the two of them
I’ve been so blessed to have written several tunes with them, and even more blessed that they have recorded so many of those songs. Truly some awesome news.
SONG OF THE DAY
Let’s make it “Wildflower Too,” which was a big bluegrass hit for them last year that got a lot of airplay on Sirius-XM. It’s a simple mountain song with a beautiful melody, if I do say so. And it’s one of those that we wrote together one evening in a Zoom call on our computers. I was in Nashville, and they were in their home in North Carolina. The miracle of technology.
HEALTH NOTES
A hospital in Tallahassee, Florida, is suing a patient who refuses to leave their hospital room, even though the patient was discharged last October. The lawsuit doesn’t say what the female patient was treated for, what her bill is, or how she has managed to stay in the room. That’s not one you hear every day.
Cardiology researchers have linked junk food to cardiovascular distress, aligning with the Department of Health and Human Services’ new dietary guidelines urging Americans to steer clear of foods like chips and candy.
Meanwhile, studies are showing that drinking milk may lower your cardiovascular risk.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Kind of says it all, in a farm kind of way.
FLYING GRUB HUB
In New Jersey, you can now order from Grubhub, and a drone will deliver your dinner.
They are testing the program for three months, and eligible customers have to be within 2.5 miles. Fly me a cheeseburger!
MAYBERRY TRIVIA
I did not know this until today. Like many, I’m an Andy Griffith Show fan. Those shows are still fun to watch today. But I never knew why Opie’s Mom was never mentioned in the show.
Turns out that she died when Opie was a baby. That was established in the pilot of the old Danny Thomas show. And now I know.
WILLIE
How about this music news? Willie Nelson is set to release a new album titled Dream Chaser. This will be Willie’s 156th album!
Wow. He’s basically released an album every year since 1962. Heck, I’ve got an album or two when he looked like this.
His new album will feature a song that he co-wrote with Bob Dylan. Long live Willie.
PRICES GOING UP
The average price for a gallon of gas just hit $3.84. That’s the highest it’s been since September of 2023. And experts predict it will soon hit 4 bucks a gallon.
On top of that, the Post Office wants to lift the price of a first-class stamp to 95 cents!
Frankly, I can’t remember the last time I licked a stamp to mail anything. Wonder why.
BIG SHAMROCK
Over in Dublin, 1.050 people made the biggest Shamrock ever, breaking a Guinness World Record.
So think about that. They broke the Guinness World Record, and then probably celebrated it with a pint of Guinness.
NBA NASHVILLE?
The NBA noted folks like Draymond Green and Stephen A Smith both said yesterday that Nashville should have an NBA franchise. Draymond went as far as to say that the Memphis Grizzlies should be moved to Music City. I didn’t see that coming. I still busy rooting for Major League Baseball to get here.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Shirley McClain:
“It is useless to hold a person to anything he says while he’s madly in love, drunk, or running for office.”
TODAY
A day off. Time to catch up on some things. I’m running a guitar to the shop to get it fine-tuned for Saturday night’s appearance at the Station Inn, where I’ll be a guest of Lauren Mascitti, sitting in and singing a song with her great band. Looking forward to that.
For what it’s worth, AI predicts Houston to beat Arizona for the championship this year.
Have a great Thursday!
