Friday morning. Bring on the weekend. Sunshine and a high of 81 on tap today in Music City.
YESTERDAY
It was a day of running to the guitar shop to make sure mine is ready for this show tomorrow night with my friend Lauren Mascitti.
Lauren holds court at this great venue with a full band once a month and has a guest or two get up and sing a song. So I’ll be singing the song Ray Stevens recorded, “Retired,” with that great band she’s put together. Should be great fun. And it’s always a treat getting to hear Lauren SING anything.
I also dropped by Guitar Center, found a guitar that I loved, and sent my wife a picture of it with a note to remind her I have a birthday coming up.
I got “crickets” back as a reply. Not a good sign, y’all, not a good sign.
COMPUTER
I also had to drop my wife’s computer off at a shop to be fixed. The battery was not charging. When I walked into the shop, the first thing the tech guy said was, “You need a new battery.” When I asked how he knew that without me telling him what the problem was, he pointed out that the cover would not close on the computer. And that’s a sign that the battery had swollen. I’d never heard that before.
So the lesson today is, folks, don’t let your battery swell.
GOOD MUSIC NEWS
The new Alex Miller album is about to be released, and I have the title track on, “More Country Than You”, written with Alex and his duet partner on this fun song, Emily Ann Roberts.
And that album got a great review yesterday in Music Row Magazine from Robert K. Oermann, who can be a tough critic on songs.
ALEX MILLER & EMILY ANN ROBERTS / “More Country
Than You”
Writers: Alex Miller/Bill Whyte/Emily Ann Roberts; Producer: Jerry Salley;
Label: Billy Jam Records
– The title tune of Miller’s upcoming CD is a bopping retro ditty. It’s also totally
cute, with him swapping hillbilly boasts with co-writer Roberts. As the title
suggests, this Kentucky wonder is wonderfully C-O-U-N-T-R-Y whenever and
whatever he sings.
How about that? Then later in the evening, I found out that the other song on that album that Alex and I wrote, “Memories and Gin” will be his next single to be released on April 10. Here's Alex with a little TEASE of that song.
That means that this new song from Alex is going to be released the same day that the new Daily & Vincent single “Moon Shine on the Still”, which I wrote with Laura Leigh Jones, is being released. That’s a first. April 10 is going to be a very good music day. Feeling pretty blessed for sure.
SONG OF THE DAY
Check out this fun VIDEO just released yesterday from my friend Katrina Burgoyne. “Wife Trial” is a song we wrote a few years ago when she was frustrated that her boyfriend had STILL not proposed. We wrote the song, and a few days later, he did. I think she still owes me for that. Happy to be part of this new single and video.
HEALTH NOTES
Ozempic and Wegovy drugs are getting as low as $15 now. Generic, cheaper options are on the way.
Encouraging news. There is an experimental insulin pill that drops blood glucose to near-normal levels in a promising study.
And yet another study suggests that needle-free diabetes management is on the horizon.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
I’ll try to remember that.
SPIDER RATINGS
The new Spider-Man TRAILER was viewed 218 million times in 24 hours. And yes, that breaks a record. People really love “Spidey”.
SPEAKING OF NUMBERS
The numbers went way down for anyone watching this year’s Oscars. Worse in many years. Meanwhile, the ratings for the World Baseball Classic that just wrapped up with Venezuela beating Team USA for the championship, saw its ratings DOUBLE since the last time it was played back in 2023. And the Venezuela-USA game was the most-watched ever.
.
Nobody was giving political speeches during the baseball games. Might have had something to do with it.
And oh yeah, it’s just 6 days to Opening Day for Major League Baseball and my Reds. Complete with that huge Opening Day Parade in Cincinnati, that’s so much fun. I had the pleasure of riding on a radio station float in the parade for many years when I worked at WUBE Radio. Nothing like it. Play ball!
SPEAKING OF ATHLETES
A Pakistani athlete just broke the Guinness World Record for most “thumb” pushups with one leg in the air. And this is the THIRD time Muhammad Arshad has broken it. 66 in one minute.
My thumbs hurt just looking at the picture. I couldn’t do 66 regular pushups even with people pushing me up and down. Geez.
GOLD
The US Mint is going to make gold coins with President Trump’s image on them. He do like gold.
It does make me wonder if Vice President JD Vance will get a silver coin with his image on it?
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Timothy Leary:
“Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition.”
TODAY
I’m off to write with Brian White and Andrea Pearson. First time the three of us will have written together.
Andrea has been in the studio recently recording a song we wrote. Can’t wait to hear more about that.
And Brian just keeps writing hits and talking Cincinnati baseball with me. With Opening Day coming up on March 26, I’m sure we’ll be talking a little baseball today as well.
And this weekend, more March Madness. Three big upsets yesterday as High Point surprised Wisconsin, and North Carolina got shocked when they were beaten by VCU. And that’s why so many get locked in on college basketball in March.
And then tomorrow night is that 9 pm show I mentioned at the top of today’s Blog.
Have a great weekend!
