A Fender Bender Session...More Telluride...Ugly Early

BILL BLOG

Wednesday January 7, 2025

Let’s see if we can get over the “Hump”. It’s Wednesday. We will hit 66 for a high today, and there’s a threat of severe weather coming our way on Friday.

YESTERDAY

My writing appointment was to be with Christian songwriter Belinda Smith, who is a Dove Award-winning artist.

Our appointment was at 10 AM yesterday, and by 10:45, she had not shown up. I was thinking maybe I had our date wrong, so I texted with her to check. It took several minutes, but she replied, telling me she had just been in a bit of a car wreck. She didn’t get hurt, but had to deal with insurance and all that goes with that. So glad to hear she was fine, and we will reschedule.  Songwriting seems pretty insignificant sometimes.

TELLURIDE

If you read this blog, you’ve seen me write about the song “Telluride” that I wrote with Andrea Pearson, that’s been a big ole bluegrass hit for young Caroline Owens. We’ve been on a really fun “ride” with that song, and it is still getting a ton of airplay on SiriusXM.

Yesterday, Caroline made a little “reaction video” while sitting in her car waiting for our song to come on the air. She knew they were going to play it, but had no idea how show host Joey Black was going to brag on her. Her reaction shows you what a great personality she has. Watch THIS.

ONE MORE

And this is former Aussie now American Katrina Burgoyne talking about the song we wrote about her Mom titled “Tough Girls”. Her Mom worked several jobs in Australia, including running heavy equipment as a single Mom to take care of her girl. Watch this short VIDEO where Katrina talks about that, and plays just a little bit of our song.

SONG OF THE DAY

I’m choosing a different version of the song I wrote with Brent Burns, “I’m Going Ugly,” that he recorded, I recorded, and Cledus T. Judd recorded. Searching YouTube, you can find a few other singers belting out our song. This ONE is one of my favorites. Some folks in a small community played and pantomimed part of our song. Watch THIS. Crazy.

HEALTH NOTES

The measles outbreak has really spread in South Carolina. Multiple people have been hospitalized, and there are now over 200 cases that have been reported.

The CDC no longer recommends six vaccines for kids. They are:

Hepatitis A, hepatitis B, influenza, meningococcal disease, rotavirus, and respiratory syncytial virus.

Over 40 million are now using ChatGPT for health advice according to a new report.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Funny story behind this sign. That quote was put on a church sign one day in Nashville. Songwriter Doug Gill drove by, saw the sign, stopped his car, and wrote that down.

He said he realized that Nashville was full of great songwriters looking for great ideas like that one, so he got out of his car and rearranged all the letters! Still makes me laugh when he tells that story.

He went home and wrote the heck out of that idea, and a few years later, the great Don Williams recorded it.

Here’s that wonderful song, "Stronger Back".

MOVING AWAY

Where are people relocating for job opportunities these days?  United Van Lines just listed their top 10 states folks are going to.

10…Nevada

9…..Alabama

8…..Arkansas

7…..North Carolina

6…..Idaho

5…..Minnesota

4…..Delaware

3…. South Carolina

2….West Virginia

And the state folks are moving to is Oregon.

JUST FUNNY

CONSUMER ELECTRONIC SHOW

That’s revved up and going on now in Las Vegas. Here’s one of the “new” things that’s being shown off. A $500 ice maker that uses AI to reduce the noise.

I’ll take one! And can they give me one that reduces the noise of a blender as well?

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Leo Durocher:

"I believe in rules. Sure, I do. If there weren’t any rules, how could you break them?"

TODAY

I’m writing with Addie Levy, who is a talented fiddle-mando-guitar player, singer, and has been out on the road a lot with a very fun band called “The Brothers Comatose”.

And Addie is bringing a friend, another great musician, named Ella Hennessee, whom I have not written with yet.

Looking forward to that.

Have a great Monday!
