BILL BLOG
Monday December 8, 2025
Monday morning, and I’m ready to head back home to Nashville. But, the forecast is calling for snow here in Virginia, and I may have to stay over one more day in Waynesboro, Virginia, where I am right now.
THE WEEKEND
Early Friday morning, I jumped into a van with my longtime friends and “Evening in the Round” partners Linda Davis and Lang Scott, to make a 600-mile trip to Virginia for two shows.
And not far into Virginia…we ran into this.
Lots of snow. Piles of snow. We felt fortunate that the snow fell the day before, or 2 days before, and that the roads were clear. We had no major problems along the way. We took our time, found a great local restaurant in Salem, Virginia, that had this unusual sign.
I don’t think I’ve ever had the urge to go on a drinking binge in the bathroom, but there must be a reason they hung the sign. One of the fun things you notice on long snowy road trips.
VALLEY BIBLE CHURCH
It was great being back at the Valley Bible Church for the “Faith, Love, and Laughter” concert in Stephens City, VA.
And our “Evening in the Round” trio had quite the opening act.
A local choir of about 40 or so warmed up the crowd with great Christmas songs before we took the stage.
The beautiful church was almost sold out, and we just appreciated the warm reception we got. And we appreciate all the hard work William and Rhonda, and others put in to make this so much fun. I had not been back for three years or so, but Rhonda DeHaven had not forgotten how much I love mac n cheese, and had a big bowl of it waiting at our pre-concert meal! Thank you, Rhonda.
We added some Christmas songs. Linda sang “Snowed In Christmas,” which I wrote with her and Bobby Tomberlin, and we had great fun singing the Ricky Skaggs version of “Children Go”…and I got to sing the “oh Lordy” bass part that runs through that song. And when I sang my last song, “Leave Em’ Laughin” that features a crowd sing-along, a bunch of the crowd stood on their feet and sang the “ba da da da da” part with me.
Just a wonderful evening that was truly filled with “Faith, Love, and Laughter”.
SUNDAY
It was the last “concert” of 2026 for me last night, and the same for Linda and Lang. But what a great last show of the year it was at the beautiful Waynesboro, Theatre in Waynesboro, Virginia.
We had a very late soundcheck for us, because “Scrooge” was playing at the theatre before us.
But we were in the hands of really GREAT sound folks. Thank you, Scott and crew for making the quick turnaround, and giving us great sound for our show.
My sister Vickie made the trip down from Newport News, VA where she lives, and caught the show, and hung out with us. Truly great having some quality time with my sister. Bonus.
By 6:30 folks started taking their seats.
And then we just had SO much fun. Last night’s show was a little loose, with several surprise songs, and lots of laughter. It might have been my favorite show of all of 2025…and it was the last. Lang Scott, for the first time ever sang this fun Jim Stafford song, “That’s What Little Kids Do”. I had NEVER heard the song before so it made for a great moment in the show. If you’ve not heard it either, check THIS SONG out.
Thank you to all of the staff at the Wayne Theatre for welcoming us last night. I’m sure we’ll be coming back!
MO MO
The song won’t die. “Mo Mo The Missouri Monster”…my first record ever that’s over 50 years old. Over the weekend, I got an email from a guy asking me lots of questions about “Mo Mo”. I finally found out that he’s from Baltimore, and he’s writing a book that will include the story of the sasquatch, and that record that lives on. Truly unbelievable.
\
He promised to let me know when the book was finished, and when he does, I’ll let you know as well.
MORE TELLURIDE
Check out Caroline Owens working at home and celebrating hearing her current single come on the radio, “Telluride” that I wrote with Andrea Pearson. Pretty danged cool.
I texted her “congratulations”, and she then sent me a picture of a “Hitchin’ A Ride to Telluride” that she will soon be selling at her shows and online. I’ll be wearing one of these bad boys.
SONG OF THE DAY
Here’s a Christmas song from Jenny Tolman that I wrote with her and her husband Dave Brainard, “I Want A Cowboy for Christmas”. Jenny had the title, and it didn’t take long for the three of us to write it that day. It turned out pretty great if I do say so. This will put you in the Christmas, and Cowboy mood at the same time.
HEALTH NOTES
Research says that Alzheimer’s risk could rise with high body weight and obesity over time.
US vaccine advisers say not all newborns need a hepatitis B shot at birth.
Science claims the best Christmas song to work out with is Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” It has the most beats per minute to get your heart going. That’s followed by “Feliz Navidad” is second best.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
I found this one while eating at a restaurant in Waynesboro, Virginia yesterday. Who knew being around porcelain would be the safe place to be if a nuclear bomb drops?
LOTS OF BEAR
For the first time in a decade, Florida has a black bear hunting season. That’s how many bears they have in the Sunshine State…too many. When I think of Florida, I think of gators and those big ole snakes in the Everglades, but bears are a big problem as well. There were 100 bears in Florida in 1970. The population has grown to more than 4,000 today. 172 permits were handed out; 1 bear for each hunter is allowed.
Not everyone is happy about it.
And so it goes.
IT’S SANTA!!!!
That Elf costume Wil Ferrel wore in the Christmas movie just sold for over $319,000 at auction in England. Wow.
Makes me wonder what “Cousin Eddie’s” costume from Christmas Vacation would go for.
NOT SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS EVERY DAY
In Nashville, an employee of a funeral home stole their embalming machine. Uh huh. Too weird. Be careful answering a Craigs ad for embalming services for the next little bit.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Anonymous:
“Health nuts are going to feel stupid one day, lying in the hospital, dying of nothing”.
TODAY
I’ll have to let you know tomorrow if we made it home to Nashville, or if we stayed an extra night in Virginia because of the snowy weather forecast.
Have a great Monday!
