Virginia Bound...Spotify Winner...Daddy's On Parole

BILL BLOG

Friday December 5, 2025

It’s Friday morning, the weekend is on us, and I’m packed and ready for a long trip to Virginia this morning. More to come on that at the end of today’s Blog.

36 for a high today in Nashville. Colder in Stephens City, VA today, where I’m headed. A high there of 30 and tonight’s low is 22! With some possible snow flurries. Geez. How many day until Spring?

YESTERDAY

It was all about running last-minute errands and packing a suitcase and a guitar for today’s trip.

The guitar is going…the Grinch is staying behind.

SPOTIFY PLAYS

Congrats to my young friend Alex Miller. His duet with Emily Ann Roberts, “More Country Than You,” is his most-streamed song on Spotify for 2025. A ton of streams! Music to a songwriter’s ear.

Check out this little VIDEO that shows you the chemistry between these two.

Alex is from Kentucky, Emily Ann is from East Tennessee, and both are “country” for sure. I took that idea into the room the day the three of us had an appointment. A musical back and forth between the boy and the girl about who is more country. Both LOVED the idea, and the song fell out pretty quickly. We laughed the day we wrote it, felt good about it, and it wasn’t too long before producer Jerry Salley had the two of them in the studio recording the song that went on the Billy Jam Record Label. Thank you Jerry!

SONG OF THE DAY

Here’s a funny Christmas song I helped write with producer-writer Steve Ivey several years ago. Steve recorded an alter ego character named “Sli-Dawg and the Redneck Ramblers.” But this band that records funny songs?  It’s all Steve. He plays every instrument AND sings all the parts. I’m the only outside person featured on some of the two Christmas records that have sold pretty well over the years.

This one is “Daddy’s On Parole This Christmas.” Nothing like a “get out of jail” carol for the holidays.

HEALTH NOTES

New research from UCLA suggests that high-quality marriages actually protect against obesity, meaning that a strong emotional bond may be just as crucial to physical health as diet and exercise.

Some doctors claim that 1/3rd of Americans don’t get enough Vitamin D, and it may be the reason you don’t sleep well.

A doctor claims that if you are over the age of 45, you should not shovel snow. At that age and older, it puts a significant strain on the heart.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Pretty sure parking in God’s private parking space will get you in trouble.

A YOUNG BILLIONAIRE

Say hello to Brazilian Luana Lopes Lara, who just became the youngest female billionaire, beating out Taylor Swift in that category. She was a ballerina, but gave that up to co-found a “global prediction market” company called Kalshi. Wow.

My prediction is, she won’t go back to dancing on her toes.

BIG GATOR

A 600-pound alligator was found in the road in Florida. Lots of gators in the “Sunshine State”. But 600 pounds? It took one trapper and six deputies to lift that bad boy and get him off the road. Wow.

Just a big ole speed-bump in Florida.

NOT A HEADLINE YOU READ EVERY DAY

“A New Jersey-Bound Plane That Suddenly Plunged Thousands of Feet Likely Hit By Cosmic Rays From Another Galaxy”. And here I thought they had killed Darth Vader.

Meanwhile, there’s legislation brewing that could lead to airlines having to pay passengers $300 to $600 for flight delays. Wouldn’t that be something?

EGG SWALLOWER

How about the thief who swallowed this Faberge egg?

Police recovered it. Proof, I suppose that a human can lay an egg…sort of.

DANGED CATS

This Cat Café in Richmond, Virginia (where cats roam freely in the restaurant between the customers and the coffee) was forced to shut down when one of the cats stopped up the bathroom sink and flooded the place!

The cats have been placed into foster homes while they rebuild the feline Starbucks. Cats…it’s always the cat!

RETIRED

The Global Retirement Index just listed the top places for retirees.

#1 is Greece, followed by Panama, and Costa Rica.

Yep, it wouldn’t be hard looking at this every day in your retirement years.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Roy Orbison:

I may be a legend, but that sure doesn’t help when I have to change a flat tire.”

TODAY

Road trip time. Just a few miles shy of 600 to get to Stephens City, Virginia where our first of two “Evening in the Round” shows will be. The “Faith Love & Concert Tour” is held in the Valley Bible Church, and it will be the third time I’ve had the pleasure of playing this show with Linda Davis and Lang Scott.

Then Sunday evening we’ll play the Wayne Theatre in Waynesboro, Virginia for the first time.

Looking forward to it.

Have a great weekend!
