New Recordings...Camel Gone Wild...Billy Bob

BILL BLOG

Thursday December 18, 2025

Thursday morning, and we’re only 7 days away from Christmas.

A high of 57 on the way for Nashville today, with some rain and possible storms.

YESTERDAY

I really hate it when a co-write gets cancelled like it did yesterday,  because I always end up doing something I’m not nearly as thrilled about. Yesterday it was shopping for groceries at two different stores with my wife, storing up provisions for the holidays ahead, and I suspect, Armageddon as well. And I don’t know which weighed more, the groceries or the bill.

Sigh.

EARLY CHRISTMAS

While I was out playing Joe Grocery, my friend and producer Jerry Salley texted me he was in the recording studio at that very moment with Kristy Cox, and a group of great musicians, and that she was recording two songs I helped write, which will land on her next album. Merry Christmas to me.

One of the songs was written with Lauren Mascitti and Kristen Bearfield. The second one with Victoria Venier and Jerry Salley.

Kirsty has been very good to me through the years. With these two, she may have recorded as many as 10 songs that I helped write. So thank you, Kristy, for the new blessings!

FUN VIDEO

Just another fun video showing off the personality of Caroline Owens, who is sitting in her car waiting for her new single “Telluride” to come on, the song I wrote with Andrea Pearson. And danged if it didn’t. Watch HERE.

SONG OF THE DAY

Since Kristy Cox just recorded two new songs of mine, I’m going to share this Kristy Cox song I helped write a few years ago, titled “Train,” which was written with Steve Dean and Daisy Mallory, that Daisy also recorded on one of her albums. Check it out at the link.

HEALTH NOTES

Scientists have developed a microplastic-free plastic that doesn’t release particles associated with cancer, heart attacks, and infertility.

A whole bunch of salad dressings have been recalled, including the popular brand Hidden Valley Ranch, due to foreign objects being found in some of the batches.

A 25-year study reveals that people who ate more high-fat cheese and high-fat cream have a lower risk of dementia.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

One of my favorite places to eat.

THEM AND US

Elon Musk’s net worth is now 648 BILLION dollars. Right now, the Powerball is worth just a little over a billion. So, if I could just win the Powerball 648 times, I might get to be neighbors with old Elon.

And, at 648 billion, it makes Elon twice as rich as the runner-up.

NATIVITY GONE WILD!

At a Texas megachurch in Houston, they decided to use real animals in their nativity scene in the church. Seemed like a great idea. But as one camel was being led down the aisle, it kicked a woman and knocked her out.

She was hospitalized and is fine. Remember, don’t sit in the aisle seat during a “live” animal nativity scene at church.

STATE OF THE UNION

I’m watching the finale of “Survivor” last night on CBS when it gets interrupted for the President’s “State of the Union” address. It probably went on for 30 minutes, and in a nutshell, we found out that the Democrats are to blame for everything bad that’s happened in the country.

Fine, but did you have to interrupt Survivor!?? Geez.

I wish they gave the viewers a choice of “watching” or “not watching”.

SPEAKING OF CHRISTMAS

Bill Murray has a Christmas special on Netflix this year, “A Very Murray Christmas,” with several musical guests and lots of laughter.

I don’t get Netflix, but I’d be checking that out if I were a subscriber.

This is a FUN SECTION of the show where Bill sings with Maggie Rose. If you’re not familiar with Maggie yet, check out her singing in this fun segment where Maggie sings, and Bill…well…Bill is just Bill Murray. Very entertaining.

REDS HALL OF FAME

My Cincinnati Reds are putting second baseman Brandon Phillips into their Hall of Fame. Good choice. Other second basemen rank above him for all-time second basemen, including another Reds player, Joe Morgan. But Brandon was so fun to watch and made some amazing plays that make you shake your head in wonder, especially if you’re a baseball fan. And he did it with a big smile on his face. Here’s proof in this HIGHLIGHT REEL.

Congrats to Brandon and the other great inductees.

DID YOU KNOW?

That Billy Bob Thornton had a tryout with the Kansas City Royals? He was a “junk” pitcher by his own admission. His very first pitch in camp came back to him off a bat and broke his collarbone. And that ended his playing career.

And then he became a roadie for several bands, including Johnny Paycheck, at one time. He said, “I lived to tell the tale”. If you know anything about Johnny Paycheck, you know what he’s talking about.

Things worked out pretty well for Billy Bob. He’s as hot as he’s ever been right now in the role of Tommy on “Landman” on Paramount, where he keeps turning in outstanding performances like this one where he's explaining the importance of oil. Watch THIS SCENE.  Some raw language, but this scene is riveting.

 FUNNY

This headline from the Babylon Bee.

Southern California Family Still Waiting For Permit To Build A Gingerbread House.”

RELIABLE CARS

Consumer Reports just listed the top 5 most reliable car brands in the U.S.

At #1 is Toyota.

Surprisingly to some, I’m sure, is that Subaru came in at #2.

Then it’s Lexus, Honda, and BMW rounding out the Top 5.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Pauline Thomason:

Love is blind, but marriage is a real eye-opener.”

TODAY

I’m off to Wil Nance’s little songwriting cabin this morning, where Angus Gill will join us to try and rhyme something.

Have a great Thursday!
