Christmas Day...Wonka...104 Year Old Veteran

BILL BLOG

Friday December 26, 2025

Friday morning, the day after Christmas. 68 for a high today in Nashville, after hitting a balmy 71 degrees on Christmas Day. Sunday we’ll hit 74, and then the bottom drops out come Monday morning as the high will be just 39 degrees, with lows dipping into the 20’s.

YESTERDAY

Well, I hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas. We sure did. My wife and I exchanged gifts, and then later we hooked up online with our daughter Heather and her husband Casey over in Germany and watched the movie “Wonka” starring Timothy Chalamet. They cued up the movie on their end, we did the same, and then we could see each other as we all sat on separate couches and watched it.

Thumbs up on the movie. Had a bit of a Christmas feel to it, and that was great. And I’m a fan of Timothy Chalamet now. He was terrific in this, even better in the role of Bob Dylan in the movie “Complete Unknown.”

And in his newest movie that's in theaters now,  he plays a champion Ping Pong player, based on a true story. And you can see from the TRAILER that he looks to be terrific in this role as well.

It was not like having our kids at home, sitting on the same couch with me and my wife, but it wasn’t bad. And we did feel connected on Christmas. I’ll happily take that.

SONG OF THE DAY

Country Faith” is a song I wrote with the artist Kristen Bearfield. Kristen had the idea for this song, and invited me to write it with her and Tim McGraw’s talented guitar play Bob Minner. The song was nominated for a Bluegrass award last year.

HEALTH NOTES

A study revealed that a popular painkiller, Tramadol, an opioid, showed little effectiveness and an increased risk of negative effects.

At least 64 people across nearly two dozen states have been sickened by a Salmonella outbreak linked to raw oysters.

Health officials have confirmed a case of measles in the state of Virginia—the first for the Commonwealth. The person was from out of state, traveling through Virginia.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Oh yeah, I know the feeling. And I think I'll blame that on the gingerbread cookies my wife made this year for Christmas.

MORE MOVIE STUFF

A new movie on the life of Oakland A’s coach and NFL broadcaster John Madden is about to be released. And Nicolas Cage is playing Madden. They pupped Nic Cage’s face out with makeup and prosthetics, but I’m not sure it works. Here’s the TRAILER. See what you think.

SALUTE

This will be a moment worth watching today, right before they drop the puck on the ice for a game between the New York Islanders and the New York Rangers.

104-year-old World War II veteran Dominic Critelli will play the National Anthem on his saxophone. He survived both Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge when he was in the Army. This should be a “must-watch” TV moment today.

LISTS

It’s that time of year when all of the “end of the year” lists start popping up. Here’s one. The top Google searches for 2025.

The Top 5:

5…One Big Beautiful Act

4…iPhone 17

3…Labubu

2…KPop Demon Hunters

And the most searched was “Charlie Kirk”.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From comedian Steven Wright:

What’s another word for Thesaurus?”

TODAY

Well, it’s the day after Christmas, so that means I have a couple of items to return. I think I’ll take a sandwich and something cold to drink as I’m betting the line might be long.

And then there’s a ton of football to watch this weekend.

Have a great weekend yourself.
