Hump Day Wednesday. Getting ready for some online CMA Awards Show commentary tonight. More on that later in today’s Blog.
74 with cloudy skies for Nashville today.
YESTERDAY
Tuesday was a day of tying up some loose ends, pitching songs, and taking care of the business end of music, every creative person’s least favorite part of the business. But it’s necessary, and it’s nice to see so many young creatives choose a Music Business major when they go to a college that offers a music degree. Like Belmont University here in town. It tends to serve them well during their musical journey.
I’ve taught songwriting classes a time or three, and one of the things I tell folks who ask whether or not they should move to Nashville is, “yes, but be prepared to get a real job”…to support your musical habit. Or, get a “Music Business” degree and then intern at a record label, publishing company, or place that helps move your music career forward.
Or do what I did. Just dig in and work your tail off.
DOES HE LOVE YOU
Recently, I was in North Carolina doing a showcase with Linda Davis and Lang Scott. During our 15 minute set Brooke Aldridge walked out and sang a bit of the big duet Linda had with Reba "Does He Love You". It was pretty special.
Well last night at a benefit in Nashville, that moment was reprised, but Linda and Brooke sang the entire duet. Check out this MOMENT.
Two great creative friends just killing it.
BOOK UPDATE
My wife Kathy's first novel, “Subtle Frequency,” is basically done. There was a bit of a correction or two that had to be processed, but it looks like that’s taken care of. And that means her book should go to print shortly. After that, she will be working on places to hold book signings and a place to have a little launch party, allowing us to invite folks to come out and purchase an early copy.
Can’t wait, and I’m so excited for her.
And of course, the book will be available to purchase in book stores and online. We’ll be able to tell you where and when very soon.
SONG OF THE DAY
My friend Brady Seals, formerly of Little Texas, Hot Apple Pie, and currently out on the road as half of Seals & Crofts 2, and more. We were looking at the songs we’ve written together through the years, and realizing that there are a LOT of them. And a lot of them to be proud of.
Brady is one of my favorite creative people in this town, and I love working and creating with him.
So, today’s song choice is one that came from a title I had, which pretty much wrote itself very quickly, that Brady recorded. Check out, “If It Ain’t One Beer”.
HEALTH NOTES
Concerning. In a startling first, a Washington state man has been infected with a strain of bird flu previously only detected in animals and never before in humans.
Scientists may have found a way to stop Alzheimer’s damage before it starts…by “melting” the tiny protein clumps that are the early triggers of the disease.
Here’s one for you. A new study suggests that popping a Viagra pill may help reverse a frequently permanent type of inherited hearing loss.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Wonder if they come with any kind of warranty?
PERFECT CHRISTMAS GIFT
Just when I found the perfect Christmas gift that I was going to ask Santa to bring to me this year, I find out it was sold at auction for $12 million.
Geez. I guess I’ll ask for socks and underwear instead.
NATELAND
Comedian Nate Bargatze, who lives in Old Hickory, TN, as I do, made it official yesterday. He has partnered with a firm to build a new theme park in Nashville that will be spread out over 100 acres, to be patterned after Universal.
Nate grew up in Nashville, and like many, was heartbroken when they shut the old Opryland Theme Park down years ago, and replaced it with Opry Mills…a big mall.
Many people I perform and write with earned a living when they were young performing in shows at Opryland. Nate hopes to revive some of that with his park, which will take years to complete. But I think a lot of folks are excited about his passion project.
A CHRISTMAS OBSERVATION
The four stages of life…
1…You believe in Santa
2…You don’t believe in Santa
3…You are Santa Claus
4…You look like Santa Claus
BEST AUDIO LOGO
The award goes to the Arby’s commercial with that booming voice that says, “We Have The Meats”. McDonald’s finished second.
That booming voice is actor Ving Rhames.
How much he makes for voicing those commercials is kept private, but rest assured, he can buy a LOT of roast beef sandwiches.
QUOTE
From Henny Youngman:
“Do you know what it means to come home at night to a woman who’ll give you a little love, a little affection, a little tenderness? It means you’re in the wrong house, that’s what it means”.
TODAY
I’ve got some online writing to do this morning with my Maryland friend Rick Lang, who is working on a new all-girl bluegrass project. Cool idea. Rick and his co-writers pen the tunes, and then Rick and producer Jerry Salley try to pick the right female vocalists for each of the tunes.
Maybe we’ll write towards that this morning.
TONIGHT
The CMA Awards Show will be on TV, and once again, I’ll be posting my comments tonight from my couch. Follow me for the craziness on my Facebook and X Page this evening. Lainey Wilson will host the show tonight, marking the first time a solo female host has done so.
Should be fun. Good luck to all the nominees. It doesn’t suck to have one of these sitting on your shelf.
Have a great Wednesday!
