Hello Thursday. 71 and cloudy in Music City today. One week to Turkey Day.
YESTERDAY
Rick Lang and I hooked up in line to write a new gospel-bluegrass song. The two of us have had some luck in that arena as two of those kinds of songs were on the “Blue Collar Gospel” project, with the title track sung by Jerry Salley and the Oak Ridge Boys being nominated for the IBMA “Bluegrass-Gospel Song of the Year”, and then this song, “Church Bells A Ringin’” sung by bluegrass great Danny Paisley that was also on that project.
Yesterday’s song was written for a future Rick Lang project that will be an “all-girl” project that should be really cool. That project is slated for 2027. Nothing like working way ahead! But the song turned out great.
CMA AWARDS
It was a bell-bottom night as host Lainey Wilson not only did a great job hosting the show, but she won multiple awards, including “Entertainer of the Year”.
She was the Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, and had the “Album of the Year”. Pretty good haul. And she debuted this fun new song, “I Got The Ring, He Got The Finger”, which reminded me a tad of the Jerry Reed classic, “She Got The Goldmine, And I Got The Shaft.”
Cody Johnson won Male Vocalist, a real deal cowboy.
And Zach Top kept it real when he won “Best New Artist” by having a beer celebration.
Coors beer company will surely send him a truckload for free after that kind of free exposure on the air.
I loved how the CMA folks invited over 100 Fort Campbell veterans to be in the audience, and then Chevy gave a free truck to one of them. Really nice touch.
My favorite performance was when Ella Langley sang her new single, “Choosing Texas.” Great, no frills, country song.
Overall, a pretty good show, and I enjoyed posting commentary on my Facebook Page last night as I’ve done for several years. Thanks for following along, and congrats to all of the winners last night.
SONG OF THE DAY
During the opening last night at the CMA Awards, host Lainey Wilson walked up to Little Big Town and got them to sing some of their great hit “Girl Crush.” With that in mind, I’ll make the Cledus T. Judd parody “Man Crush” the song of the day. This is a song I helped him write about a guy having a crush on Tiger Woods. Here’s the VIDEO…pretty funny.
HEALTH NOTES
Pfizer announced it is seeking to bring oral obesity treatments to the public.
Experts are warning that Ultra-processed foods is a global health threat.
Another study suggests that junk food may actually make you depressed.

That’s just wrong in any language.
MORE AI PREDICTIONS
Yesterday Elon Musk predicted that within 10 to 20 years, work will be “optional”. Heck, I’m already at a point in my life where work is optional.
ART
I really don’t get art. It’s lost on me how this painting could sell for a record amount. $236.4 million from an anonymous buyer.
I’m moved more by this kind of art, to tell you the truth.
PICKLE BALL
Had to happen. In the beautiful seaside town that is Carmel, California, residents got the new craze of Pickleball to be banned within city limits. They complained about the constant “popping” noise. Since it’s geared towards seniors, that “popping” noise could be the paddle hitting the ball, or the sound of old knees…not sure. Either way, don’t bring your little paddles to Carmel.

From Hockey great Wayne Gretzky:

TODAY
I’m off to write with Angus Gill today, just back from an Australian tour. Somehow, he gets to hang out with the coolest people.
I’m hoping he invited Emmy Lou to our writing session this morning.
Have a great Thursday!
