Blessed Thanksgiving...Snowed In Christmas...Wicked Dolls

BILL BLOG

Friday November 28, 2025

It’s Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. Anyone else stuffed?

It’s a chilly 27 degrees as I begin today’s Blog. The high will be 49 in Nashville today.

YESTERDAY

What a wonderful Thanksgiving it was. Mine started with a conference call with my siblings, who are scattered across the country. My brother Gary and his wife Kay are in Florida, Vickie is in the DC-Virginia area, and the youngest Rita is up in Minnesota. It was great hearing that everyone was healthy and doing fine, and all of them, of course, having their own celebrations.

Then my daughter Facetimed me and my wife from Germany. Heather and her husband had taken a little trip to the Bavarian region and sent a little postcard picture.

Yep, it’s snowing there. We missed having them here, but we’re blessed knowing they, too, are well, and of course, we’re proud of Heather’s husband, Casey, who is a pilot in the Army. And when I asked about turkey plans?  My daughter told me she thought they were going to a Chinese restaurant. What?!  I accused my daughter of recreating this scene from “Christmas Story”.

Then my wife and I for a second year in a row sat at a long table with dear friends for our meal. And there were lots of young children, many of whom we’ve been watching grow up for a while. Truly amazing how you can seemingly just turn around, and they’re no longer little ones.

We held hands, said a prayer to bless the bounty, the guys kept sneaking peeks of the football games up on the Big Screen, and yep…it was Thanksgiving. I hope yours was equally blessed.

SONG OF THE DAY

Christmas music is breaking out, so I’m sharing “Snowed In Christmas” that I wrote with Linda Davis and Bobby Tomberlin at my house years ago. I had the idea, they loved it, and Linda sat behind the piano and came up with a beautiful melody. She recorded it on her family Christmas album, and the family performed it for two years during the Christmas Dinner Show at the Opryland Hotel several years ago. My Dad who was bline came to town during that run, and he got to sit at a table and hear that song, and that was a pretty nice Christmas gift for me that year.

You can see that Hillary, their daughter who is now with Lady A, was just a young girl at the time. She's now a star of course, but she's also a wonderful Mom to 4 kids of her own.

And then the song was included on an album featuring several country artists that raised money for a wonderful charity. Happy to be part of this “classic-sounding” Christmas tune for sure.

CHRISTMAS SHOW

And...if you're in the audience for this show in Stephens City, Virginia a week from tomorrow...

Or at a our show in Waynesboro, Virginia next Sunday...

You'll get to hear Linda sing that Christmas song.

HEALTH NOTES

Dolly Parton has been battling her health, has taken some time off. But yesterday she said she’s doing better.

People say, ‘Well, you’re going to be 80 years old.’ Well, so what?” she told the outlet. “Look at all I’ve done in 80 years. I feel like I’m just getting started.”

“I know that sounds stupid, but unless my health gives way, which right now I seem to be doing fine,” she continued. “I think there’s a lot to be said about age. If you allow yourself to get old, you will. I say, ‘I ain’t got time to get old!’ I ain’t got time to dwell on that. That’s not what I’m thinking about.

Research indicates that going to bed at the same time every evening can help regulate your blood pressure.

The news on eating processed foods got worst as they’re now saying processed foods are related to 12 major health conditions.

HOT TOYS

Here are the hottest toys for Christmas this year.

Yep, the “Wicked Dolls”. So hot that some folks have paid $2,000 or more on eBay to grab them for their kids. Those Tickle Me Elmo Dolls that people fought over a few years ago are a lot cheaper now. Maybe grab one of those instead.

NOT DEAD YET

There were two “not dead yet” stories in the news recently. A Thai Woman was in her coffin, headed for cremation, when they found out she was alive.

Another was in a coffin headed for burial someone heard a “knock” on the coffin lid. She too was alive.

Geez.

And that certainly reminds me of the funny line for the late great New York Yankee, Yogi Berra, after his wife asked Yogi if he wanted to be cremated or buried.  Yogi’s reply was, “Surprise me”.

STRESSED

According to those who know these things, the MOST stressed-out city in the world is New York. Followed by Dublin, Mexico City, Manila, and London.

The LEAST stressed-out city is Eindhoven, Netherlands.

(Although, if I had to walk in wooden shoes, I’d be pretty stressed)

THIEVES

A new trend in thievery is that cell phones are being stolen at musical concerts. Authorities say it’s tied to the black market. Maybe don’t let your cell phone hang out of your back pocket if you’re in the mosh pit at a concert.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From actor Leslie Nielsen in Naked Gun:

"The truth hurts. Maybe not as much a jumping on a bicycle with the seat missing, but it hurts.

TODAY

Hey, it’s Thanksgiving weekend. Nothing on the books but eating leftovers and finishing putting up the Christmas tree. There is a football game on Prime. Bears vs Eagles. And a reminder, if you have Prime and want to check out a new Christmas movie, try this one.

I’m blessed to have the title track song for this movie that you’ll hear a couple of times if you watch it. And I found out yesterday that the song is being played in several retail stores across the country. Kind of a cool Christmas present this year.

Have a great Thanksgiving weekend!
