A Chill On The Coast...Frank Brown Festival...Honoring Veteran's Tonight

BILL BLOG

Tuesday November 11, 2025

The sun is up in Gulf Shores, Alabama. But it’s surely colder…still pretty…but colder. There was a “freeze warning” here last night, and today’s high will only be 54. But the sun will be out and shining.

Meanwhile, back at home in Nashville, my wife reported “spitting” snow yesterday. Way too soon for that! And in Crossville, Tennessee, about an hour or less away from where I live? They closed a school.

Oh…and it’s Veterans’ Day. Salute tall who serve or have served, including my brother Gary, my son-in-law Casey, and Dodge Raymer back in Missouri, my dear friend Brent Burns here in Gulf Shores, and countless others. Proud of every veteran’s service to our country.

YESTERDAY

I had a day off here at the Frank Brown Songwriter’s Festival and did a lot of this.

It was pretty nice to have a lazy day and just lie out on the condo deck and soak up some sun. Temperatures are cool in the shade, but where the sun hits the deck, perfect. Victoria Venier is already back home from our “Hits & Grins” trio, but Steve Dean and I are here through today to be part of the Freedom Sings USA veterans’ show this evening at 6 pm at the Coastal Arts Center. It’s become a tradition at the festival, and it’s just a really great way for us to wrap up our stays down here.

Looking very forward to honoring our vets tonight, but singing some of the songs we have written with many of them through the years in different locations all across the country.

FLORA BAMA

We did grab the free lunch at noon yesterday at the Flora Bama, after playing in the Main Room the night before.

The meals are served up from local restaurants, and dished out to the songwriters by the staff of great volunteers who help make this Festival work so well. We appreciate them, and the chili and the Bar B Que were not bad!

BACK TO LULU’S

Steve Dean, Bill DiLuigi, and I grabbed some Gulf Coast dinner last night at Lulu’s and watched my friend Brent Burns for a bit doing his Monday night gig there. The snowbirds are arriving, so he’s wearing out his classic song, “If It’s Snowbird Season, Why Can’t We Shoot Em”? Funny every time…still…after all these years.

NEW DATES

February 11 and 12, I’ll be in Greensburg, Indiana, between Indianapolis and Cincinnati, writing songs for Freedom Sings USA with veterans. More dates are starting to roll in, and 2026 looks to be as busy as 2025. To find out where I’m playing at any time, go to the “Tour” section on my website.

Speaking of Freedom Sings USA…

SONG OF THE DAY

A no-brainer for today, Veterans’ Day. Freedom Sings USA posted this video on their Facebook Page yesterday. It’s a video of 103-year-old World War II Marine Bob Schultz, and the song that I wrote with him about his service. He loaded and fired big guns on a battleship. They fought off kamikazes, but the ship was hit by one, and the battleship suffered massive casualties. An amazing story. I won’t say anymore, because this video and song, “Seagoing Marine,” really tells the story. I’m honored to have written this with him.

HEALTH NOTES

A new study reveals four ways to help better your sleep.

1-Morning light exposure. Let that wake you up instead of that loud rooster.

2-Finish eating dinner 2-4 hours before going to bed.

3-Deep breathing exercises.

4-Cardiovascular training

Doctors are warning that lung cancer in young people is increasing...particularly for young women.

Canada has lost it’s “measles elimination” status, putting the U.S. on notice.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Thank you for enforcing that for all of us non-kilt wearers

PLANES WILL FLY AGAIN

The government has apparently ended the shutdown. The question remains: can anyone tell a difference? It comforts me to know that the politicians did pay themselves during the shutdown. What were the odds?

DUMBEST QUOTE OF THE DAY

Kim Kardashian failed her bar exam. And she said this, “All psychics who told her she would pass the bar exam are ‘

Full of f---ing s---t”.

I’m hearing the Mega Millions numbers the psychic gave her were wrong as well.

GAG GIFTS FOR CHRISTMAS

If there’s a golfer on your Christmas list…they might or might not like this.

Yep, a toilet golf practice mat. Sort of a “Putt and Poop” gift, I suppose. Merry Christmas.

WENDY’S

They are shutting down over 300 stores. I don’t know why, but it’s getting a “frosty” reception from me.

SOME KIND OF HEADLINE

Mother on Maternity Leave Nabs 12-Foot Alligator and Her Family Plans to Turn It into a Rug.” Well, there ya go. If I were them, I would walk on that new rug in a pair of Crocs.

TOO MUCH TIME ON HIS HANDS

That would be the guy who now owns the world record for “snapping” the most cucumbers. David Rush snapped 35 in 30 seconds.

A skill set a lot of us will never have.

TODAY’S QUOTE

From Jack Handy:

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, you’ll be a mile from them, and you’ll have their shoes.”

TODAY

Our Veterans Day Tribute with Freedom Sings USA begins at 6 pm this evening at the Coastal Arts Center. Come help us salute those who have given us so much if you can.

Have a great Tuesday!
