Hump Day Wednesday…and it’s packing day for a beach run to Port St.Joe, Florida, and then over to Gulf Shores, Alabama.
It’s warming back up. 81 will be the high in Nashville today.
YESTERDAY
I wrote with one of the great bluegrass songwriters in our business, Daryl Mosley, and we wrote a song about sitting on a front porch playing music with folks, and or family. That’s a way of life for a lot of folks who grew up singing country or bluegrass music.
Daryl is a great storyteller, and he plays at many churches across the country. And he stays pretty busy.
I got a big laugh when the two of us talked about what’s selling on the merchandise table these days, now that CD sales have shrunk because fewer folks have a CD player at home, or in their cars. He told me they worked out a deal with a hot “pie” company and started selling pie at his shows. Lots of them. That made me laugh.
I’ll be selling bowls of macaroni and cheese at all of my shows now.
COOL TO SEE THIS
The Christmas song I mentioned yesterday, "Music City Mistletoe" is the title track to the new Christmas movie produced by my friend Shantell Ogden. And it's the first single being released off the soundtrack. I wrote this little holiday tune with Shantell and my long time friend Victoria Venier. Nice to see it getting played some!
A BABY LULLABYE?
Check out this little VIDEO of the girls in the trio “Three Times A Lady” that’s comprised of singers Kennedy Scott, Victoria Camp, and Hannah Blaylock. Their talented trio is now singing a song that I wrote with both Kennedy and Victoria earlier this year for Kennedy’s little one. Which is very cool to see and hear as a songwriter.
But here’s the words to the chorus:
I get to moving on
I get to getting gone
Ain’t it funny how the world keeps spinning round
Out of the blue
Knocked me on my ass
Didn’t know you had it in you to do me like that
I had no idea we had written a baby lullaby that day!
SONG OF THE DAY
Today I’m choosing the Irene Kelley song “Walk With Me Today” which was one of the very first songs we ever wrote together around her Nashville kitchen table one morning. She put it on her “Benny’s TV Repair” album that was dedicated to her Dad, who ran a TV repair basement out of their home up in Pennsylvania. And she got our talented friends Darin and Brooke Aldridge to add some wonderful harmony parts on this song. One of my favorites.
HEALTH NOTES
As “superbugs” continue to surge, the WHO is now warning that one in every six bacterial infections are resistant to antibiotics.
Research says that drinking from plastic bottles may expose you to 90,000 more microplastics a year.
A 100-year-old grandmother says her secret to living a long life is walking every day and eating healthy. She rides a stationary bike for 30 minutes, and then takes a 1.4-mile walk.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
And you just KNOW there is an ABNORMAL library somewhere!
FALL FOODS
When Fall hits, pumpkin-flavored everything shows up. But it’s also a season for apple cider. The question is, do I want one of these?
I’m leaning towards saying, “yes”.
MEGA MILLIONS
It’s going to be worth 600 million this go around for the winner. One lotto winner bought plastic surgery for his entire family. Another guy bought an entire wrestling league. And yet another bought a danged fireworks factory.
I’ll let you know which of those I choose if my numbers come in.
BUMPER STICKER
Sometimes you can find the truth on a danged bumper sticker.
TODAY’S QUOTE
From the late comedian Red Button:
“Never raise your hands to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected.”
TODAY
I’m rhyming with Alex Miller and Stuie French today. We’ll be trying to finish up a fun idea we started a couple of months ago. That will be fun.
Then it’s time to finish packing for the “Blast On The Bay” songwriters festival in Port St. Joe.
Followed by MOTM with all those Parrot Heads and Trop Rock lovers over in Gulf Shores. In fact, I’ll be looking for the Parrot I found last year at this event.
I’ll be on the road early, so it will be a shorter blog tomorrow that will be posted later than normal.
Have a great Wednesday.
