Parrot Heads Everywhere...Moving Up The Chart...A Loss

BILL BLOG

Wednesday October 22, 2025

Wednesday morning, and I’m blogging from Gulf Shores.

YESTERDAY

We had postcard weather here yesterday, and there’s more to come of that. No complaints here. Brent Burns hosts a songwriter series every year at Lulu’s that is part of the MOTM Parrot Head week here, and the first rounds were yesterday, featuring some local songwriters. I’ll be joining Brent for that series on Thursday at 2:30 pm.

My only “had to do” yesterday was having a meeting with my co-emcee for this year’s event, Krystal King, and one of the organizers, Jon Burns

Krystal is a radio host on Radio Margaritaville, as well as being a singer-songwriter herself. We’ll have fun sharing the stages this week down here on the beach.

CHART ACTION

It was nice to see the song “Telluride,” which I wrote with Andrea Pearson and recorded by Caroline Owens, jump 3 spots on the Banjo Radio chart this week.

Caroline is such a great young bluegrass artist on Billy Blue Records whose voice has sometimes been compared to Dolly and Alison Krauss…and Alison is her musical hero. I’m just happy to be a writer on one of her records at the start of what is going to be an amazing career for her.

NO ELBOWS ON THE TABLE

Last night I made a trip with Brent Burns and company over to beautiful Magnolia Springs, Alabama, for dinner at a fine place named Jesse’s. That’s about 20 minutes or so from Gulf Shores.

Jesse’s has been around for 75 years, serving up some incredible food. We had 7 in our party, and all 7 ordered the same thing off the menu, their shrimp and grits. Don’t know that I’ve ever seen that before. But it turned out to be a great choice as that was the BEST shrimp and grits I’ve ever had! The kind of “good” that makes you say, “I’ll go back there again”.

Perfect end to a Tuesday on the Gulf.

SONG OF THE DAY

I’m going to reshare the funny song “The Jeans Song” recorded by Trop Rock artist Donny Brewer, with some help from another noted Trop Rocker and funny guy, Stoney Gabel. The question Donny poses in the song is, “How the hell’d she get in those jeans”? Pretty funny song if I do say so. I’m glad he called and invited me to help him finish this idea he had started, which he later added to his latest album. I’ll be seeing Donny all week down here at MOTM.

HEALTH NOTES

A new vitamin compound is showing promise for reversing Alzheimer’s damage to the brain. Some good news there hopefully.

Science suggests that readers may be healthier, more empathetic, and even more attractive. (Just my luck…I haven’t read a book for years.

Researchers are finding that men’s brains shrink faster than women’s as they explore Alzheimer’s connection.

CONDOLENCES

I received word this morning that Betty Salois passed. Betty and her husband, Paul Salois changed my life when I was 18 years of age, and they hired me as a DJ to work on their “Mom and Pop” radio station, KPCR in Bowling Green, Missouri. The two of them encouraged me and allowed me to learn how to be a radio guy, which eventually led to a long and wonderful radio career. And for that, I am forever grateful. It’s amazing how a couple of folks can impact a life, as they did mine. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family back in Missouri.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Just so you know.

AMAZON

Word is that Amazon will be replacing 600,000 workers with robots. That would mean that 75% of their workforce would be robotic. The company claims that items will cost 30 cents less on average.

And there have been some reports that speculate that an Amazon truck could pull up to your door one day (driverless), and that a humanoid will climb out and deliver the package to your front door.

Yes, Dylan was right. “The Times They Are A-Changing”.

Makes me think that if you want a job in the future, you should learn how to fix robots.

MORE ROBOTS

How about this water-cannon robot?

It can blast water at fires with a cannon, and it can withstand 572 degrees, allowing it to get closer to the fire. Each one costs $150,000.

AND THEN THERE’S AI

AI is constantly generating false stories on social networks. And some of those have been about country stars. If it sounds unreal, it probably is. That kind of stuff forced Brooks and Dunn to issue this statement.

Common sense...use your common sense folks.

BABIES BORN TO MUSIC

According to a Spotify survey, the most popular artists and bands that are being played in the delivery room are Coldplay, The Beatles, Ed Sheeran, and Fleetwood Mac.

And I think if I were expecting a baby boy?  I would choose the Beatles song...”Here Comes The Son”…(Sun).

TODAY’S QUOTE

From Groucho Marx:

“No man goes before his time, unless the boss leaves early.”

TODAY

I’ll be on the Main Stage tonight at MOTM, located by “The Hangout” for the Trop Rock Legends show this evening. I’ll be singing a song to help honor one of those Trop Rock legends, my buddy Brent Burns. Brent’s back is not allowing him to appear everywhere this year, so I’ll take his place and sing one of our songs, “Don't Come Knockin' If The Tiki Hut's Rockin'
which was a Trop Rock Song of the Year once. Happy to do it.

Have a great Wednesday!

Two Nominations...New Show...Back Home This Weekend

BILL BLOG Monday June 30, 2025   Monday morning, the last day of June already, and we’re rolling towards the 4 th of July. And it’s likely to be hot.   With that in mind, did you hear that the inventor of the heat index died?   He was 88 but felt like 107.   Some light rain with a high of 88 is predicted for Nashville today.   THE WEEKEND Over the weekend, I found out that two songs I helped write are up for consideration for the Dove Awards this year. “ Blue Collar Gospel ” was recorded by Jerry Salley and the Oak Ridge Boys, written with Jerry Salley and Rick Lang .   And “ Country Faith ” was recorded by Kristen Leigh Bearfield with gospel great Karen Peck singing harmony, written with Kristen Bearfield and Bob Minner .   “For consideration” means it’s in the early stages of the voting, and we’ll have to wait and see if either song makes it to the final ballot. Either way, it’s pretty cool to have the...

Dove Award Nomination...The American Dream...Baseball Bobbleheads

BILL BLOG Friday June 27, 2025   It’s Friday morning. Are you ready for the weekend?   It will hit 91 for a high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY I had an open day pop-up after my writing session was cancelled at the last second. So I spent some time at my publishing company talking about songs that are being pitched of mine right now with my publisher. And we talked about a new song that I helped write that my publisher likes a lot, but thinks there are parts of it that could be stronger. And he was right.   Songwriting is a competitive business, and getting artists to record your songs is always a challenge. Changing a lyric and making it stronger increases the odds a little that a song may find a home. I’m all about trying to make something good…better.   Further down in this Blog today, you’ll read about a lyric change that led to a smash hit because the writers were willing to make a change.   MORE BLUEBIRD I’m...

Magical Bluebird Cafe Show..."The Road"...Waffle House

BILL BLOG Thursday June 26, 2025    Thursday morning arises after a busy Wednesday. It’s ONLY going to be 95 in Nashville today with some possible rain. And that’s good news after the weather folks predicted that it would be over 100 degrees yesterday. Plenty HOT.     How hot is it?   Hot enough that asphalt melted in NYC yesterday and almost swallowed this bus.  YESTERDAY My friend Troy Engle drove down from Pennsylvania with his family to visit a couple of colleges for his daughter. And he found time to write a wonderful idea he brought with him from Amish country, with me, and I’m surely glad about that.   Troy lived in Nashville for years, and he wrote songs and played with the late Tom T. Hall …and then Eric Church , and then Patty Loveless , and on and on. Big acts hired him a lot because he’s a multi-instrumentalist and can play banjo, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, steel guitar…you name it.   If his two...
