New Album Project...Biloxi Next Year...Swifties

BILL BLOG

Friday October 3, 2025

Friday morning, and here comes the first weekend of October. An 84-degree high is expected today for Nashville.

YESTERDAY

I got to spend some writing time with two of my favorite creative folks in this town, Jenny Tolman and her husband, Dave Brainard. Jenny is in the studio right now, recording tracks for her next album, and I found out that a couple of the songs we’ve written will make the new project—music to a songwriter’s ear.

The new album has a theme that I can’t share yet, but we wrote towards that theme yesterday from a great idea Jenny had.

Next week, the two of them are on a plane out to beautiful Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where they were married a few years ago.

Jenny hosts an all-girls music festival every year at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. That’s the bar on this album cover of hers that had 4 songs of ours on it…including the title track.

And this year, her headliner is one of the “it” girls of country music, Ella Langley, who sold her night out in just two minutes when tickets went on sale.

Fun day with the two of them yesterday.

WORKING AHEAD

It looks like I’ll be playing a show in Biloxi for the first time. That will happen next September with my friend Brent Burns at a big Parrot Head festival in Mississippi known as the "Bilox Box Set Music Festival."The promoter of that festival has seen me and Brent work together before and tried to get us to Biloxi last year, but that date was already booked for me. I appreciate them asking again, and I’m looking forward to being on the Mississippi coast next year.

NEXT SHOW

That would be next weekend, when I’ll be in Huntsville to write with veterans for Freedom Sings USA. This will be the second trip to Huntsville for the organization.

Last year, I wrote Air Force retiree Master Sergeant Bill Cole’s military story into a song. These were a couple of lines in his song.

One day, my boss asked how about Korea for a year

And I said How’d you’d like to kiss my Air Force rear?

Looking forward to writing another veteran’s story into song next weekend.

SONG OF THE DAY

And since I just talked about Jenny Tolman's  last album, here’s “Working Woman’s Blues” that we wrote that made the album. I love the fact that her husband, Dave, added a horn section to this recording.

HEALTH NOTES

A new study suggests that giving blood can help lower your risk of heart disease.

Research from UCLA is showing that patients receiving a radioactive drug plus radiation stay cancer-free for more than twice as long.

Another study claims that rheumatoid arthritis silently starts years before pain.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Pretty sure that sign fits me.

TEETH TUG

How about this Egyptian wrestler who just pulled a 700-ton ship…with his teeth!

They call him Kabonga. They’d be calling me “Toothless” if I tried that.

TAYLOR

How popular is Taylor Swift? Swifties were lined up at midnight last night at Target Stores to grab her new album “Showgirl”. And Spotify crashed because so many of her fans were trying to order at the same time.

And yes, there’s a song about her fiance’Travis Kelce, on the album…of course. And apparently, it should be rated PG-13 at best. The song is titled “Wood”. Uh huh.

And, you can bet if Travis ever treats her wrong, he’ll wind up in another song.

RETIRED

The publication StarInsider just listed the top 25 cities to retire in here in the US. It was filled with cities in Florida, of course, but look where the Top 5 cities are located.

5…Allentown, PA

4…Scranton, PA

3…Lancaster, PA

2…Reading, PA

1…Harrisburg, PA

Who knew? The tax is affordable for seniors in Pennsylvania, and the cost of living is affordable. But doesn’t it get cold up there?!

MEANWHILE

Travel and Leisure just listed the top countries to retire in.

Norway is number one.

Ireland, Switzerland, Iceland, and Denmark round out their top 5. The United States? 21st.

LAINEY WILSON

Here’s a funny and ironic story about country star Lainey Wilson. She got a speeding ticket when she was young, driving in her hometown of Baskin, Louisiana. They just named that highway after her.

Got to love that if you’re Lainey.

TODAY’S QUOTE

This one from Ben Franklin

“Do you love life? Then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of.”

TODAY

I’ve got an off day, so basically I have a three-day weekend that starts…now. Baseball playoffs, and lots of football. I think that’s why they call it the “weekend”.

Have a great weekend yourself.

Pensacola...Writing With A Friend....Happy Memorial Day

BILL BLOG Monday May 26, 2025  And a good Memorial Day Monday morning to you from Pensacola, Florida.   THE WEEKEND Mine started Saturday morning by jumping the car with Steve Dean and making the trip from Nashville down here to beautiful Pensacola for this event with Freedom Sings USA.   The event was held at Warrior Beer Company in Pensacola, owned by veteran Gary Hefner .   We rolled into Pensacola around 5 pm Friday, dropped our bags at the hotel, and then made our way over to the Warrior Beer Company for a little meet and greet with our veterans.   Imagine my surprise when I found out that a long-time friend of mine, Larry Hudson , from nearby Gulf Shores, would be the veteran I would be writing with. More on that in a bit.     After our dinner, our songwriter group got on stage and sang a few songs.   After we wrapped up, we headed to a favorite Irish Pub, “McGuire’s,” and closed out the ...

New Song Recorded...Lulu...Book On The Way

BILL BLOG Friday April 25, 2025   Here comes the weekend. It’s Friday once again. A high of 71 today with more rain on the way.   YESTERDAY I wrote with young Taylon Hope for the first time in a long while. Taylon is now a Sophomore at Belmont, University here in Nashville, and she’s chasing her musical dreams. We were to write in person and then one of her professors scheduled a test that would have conflicted so we wrote online instead and created a fun song for her that will be something she can add to her set list when she’s out performing “live”.   I’m rooting for some of her dreams to come true as I am so many other young talents in this crazy creative town.   BURN ME DOWN An American Idol contestant from a year ago, Kennedy Reid reached out to me a few months ago through a producer friers asking for songs for consideration for an album she was going to record. I sent three or 4 songs and ,she recorded one of those that I w...

Home Again...Hamburger Day...Dollywood

BILL BLOG Wednesday May 28, 2025   Wednesday morning, and I’m back home in Nashville. Sunshine with a high of just 79 here in Nashville today.   YESTERDAY A long drive home from Pensacola from our Freedom Sings USA songwriters retreat with our veterans. 2 traffic jams with detours, and one last traffic jam as I was 5 miles away. So, a normal 7 to 8 hour drive took 9 to get home this time. But we made it safe and sound with a bag full of great memories from the Memorial Day weekend, honoring those who gave so much. And what a pleasure it was getting to write with my friend and Viet Nam veteran Larry Hudson who had quite the story to tell that we turned into a song.   NEXT UP Our next Freedom Sings USA weekend will be in the small town of Heyworth, Illinois June 18 and 19. We were there last year, and it seemed like the entire town showed up on the night all the writers performed those songs we wrote with their veterans. We are certainl...
