Montana...Christmas Movie Song...Bill Murray

BILL BLOG

Tuesday October 14, 2025

Hello Tuesday morning. Up to a 79-degree high today here in Music City.

YESTERDAY

I wrote a new song with the husband and wife team, Adam and Amy Pope. And we chased an idea that Adam brought to the table that turned out great. The two of them stay busy. They home school their two kids, and they travel and play music, and the kids get to go along for the ride.

Yesterday, we talked about one of our favorite places in the country. Montana, Wyoming, and Yellowstone Park. They just played there a few weeks ago in a place I played at once, “The Music Ranch”, where from the stage you’re looking out at the mountains.

And then there’s the Beartooth Highway that runs from Livingston, Montana, where the Music Ranch is located, into Yellowstone National Park.

I highly recommend taking that little journey if you are ever near there. Spectacular.

SNEEK PEAK

Check out my friend Jenny Tolman here in this VIDEO teasing her upcoming run on “The Road” TV show on CBS that starts this weekend on October 19. Yesterday I mentioned that Jenny will be singing at least one of our songs that we’ve written together with her husband, Dave Brainard. Click on the video and you’ll hear her singing a bit of one of those songs, “I Know Some Cowboys”. Go Jenny!

CHRISTMAS MOVIE

I attended the premiere of a new Christmas movie, “Music City Mistletoe,” that was written by my friend Shantell Ogden. Shantell reached out to me and my friend Victoria Venier one day and asked us to help her write this Christmas song idea she had. We had no idea that it would become the title track for this Christmas movie. But it was. And it played at the first of the movie, and it plays again at the end of this holiday movie.

It has a Hallmark, Lifetime kind of feel, and the movie was very fun to watch. Several songwriter friends of mine have songs in the movie as well, and a couple of them have parts in the movie. I’m not sure yet where you’ll be able to find the movie, but I’ll let you know. And congrats to Shantell and everyone involved.

That’s Shantell and part of the cast after the film wrapped up last night. Pretty cool evening.

SONG OF THE DAY

With that, today’s song is “Music City Mistletoe”. The title track to the Christmas movie is sung by the writer and creator of the film, Shantell Ogden. Thanks for asking me to help write this song Shantell!

HEALTH NOTES

Why are some pill bottles colored orange?  I didn’t know either.  It turns out that orange protects the pills from light.

A new study reveals what some might have suspected. Kids who use social media score lower on reading and memory tests.

The Global Retirement Index reveals that Luxembourg is the best country to retire to for great health care. The rest of the Top 5 countries are Ireland, Sweden, Norway, and Switzerland.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Who knew?

FOOTBALL CHANGES

Here in Nashville, they fired another head football coach. Brian Callahan of our Tennessee Titans. Hopefully, he had the same contract payout that Penn State coach James Franklin had, who was just let go at Penn State. They have to pay James Franklin 49 million for being fired!

Man, I would so like to be fired once on that kind of contract!

HOLIDAY SEASON

You can tell it’s that time of year because Amazon just hired 250,000 workers for the upcoming season. There’s going to be a LOT of Prime boxes on doorsteps.

GOLFING FUN

Anytime Bill Murray plays golf, hilarity could ensue on the course. This is such a FUN VIDEO of some of those moments from one of my favorite actors and comedians.

FAST DRIVE THRU

Fastest drive-thru in America? That would be Taco Bell, according to a study from Intouch. Customers spend, on average, about four minutes in line to get a Taco.

And while Chick-fil-A was the slowest, it ranked highest in satisfaction, tied with Dutch Bros.

The DMV doesn’t have a drive-thru, fortunately. If it did, it would be by FAR the slowest.

TODAY’S QUOTE

From Tina Fey:

A Harvard Medical School study has determined that rectal thermometers are still the best way to tell a baby’s temperature. Plus, it really teaches the baby who’s boss.

TODAY

I’ll be back at the songwriting table with my friend Daryl Mosley again. Something good always seems to come from sharing and writing ideas with Daryl. Here’s a little SAMPLE of what Daryl does best.

Have a great Tuesday!

Two Nominations...New Show...Back Home This Weekend

BILL BLOG Monday June 30, 2025   Monday morning, the last day of June already, and we’re rolling towards the 4 th of July. And it’s likely to be hot.   With that in mind, did you hear that the inventor of the heat index died?   He was 88 but felt like 107.   Some light rain with a high of 88 is predicted for Nashville today.   THE WEEKEND Over the weekend, I found out that two songs I helped write are up for consideration for the Dove Awards this year. “ Blue Collar Gospel ” was recorded by Jerry Salley and the Oak Ridge Boys, written with Jerry Salley and Rick Lang .   And “ Country Faith ” was recorded by Kristen Leigh Bearfield with gospel great Karen Peck singing harmony, written with Kristen Bearfield and Bob Minner .   “For consideration” means it’s in the early stages of the voting, and we’ll have to wait and see if either song makes it to the final ballot. Either way, it’s pretty cool to have the...

BILL BLOG Friday June 27, 2025   It’s Friday morning. Are you ready for the weekend?   It will hit 91 for a high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY I had an open day pop-up after my writing session was cancelled at the last second. So I spent some time at my publishing company talking about songs that are being pitched of mine right now with my publisher. And we talked about a new song that I helped write that my publisher likes a lot, but thinks there are parts of it that could be stronger. And he was right.   Songwriting is a competitive business, and getting artists to record your songs is always a challenge. Changing a lyric and making it stronger increases the odds a little that a song may find a home. I’m all about trying to make something good…better.   Further down in this Blog today, you’ll read about a lyric change that led to a smash hit because the writers were willing to make a change.   MORE BLUEBIRD I’m...

Magical Bluebird Cafe Show..."The Road"...Waffle House

BILL BLOG Thursday June 26, 2025    Thursday morning arises after a busy Wednesday. It’s ONLY going to be 95 in Nashville today with some possible rain. And that’s good news after the weather folks predicted that it would be over 100 degrees yesterday. Plenty HOT.     How hot is it?   Hot enough that asphalt melted in NYC yesterday and almost swallowed this bus.  YESTERDAY My friend Troy Engle drove down from Pennsylvania with his family to visit a couple of colleges for his daughter. And he found time to write a wonderful idea he brought with him from Amish country, with me, and I’m surely glad about that.   Troy lived in Nashville for years, and he wrote songs and played with the late Tom T. Hall …and then Eric Church , and then Patty Loveless , and on and on. Big acts hired him a lot because he’s a multi-instrumentalist and can play banjo, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, steel guitar…you name it.   If his two...
