Hello Virginia...Awards Show...Big Pumpkin Charlie Brown

BILL BLOG

Wednesday October 8, 2025

Middle of the week. It’s Wednesday. Cooler in Nashville today with a high of just 73.

YESTERDAY

I had an off day that allowed me to do some planning for the road ahead. This always seems to be the busiest time of year for me, and these next couple of months are really busy.

DECEMBER IN VIRGINIA

I got this nice poster yesterday.

Happy to be playing at the Valley Bible Church in Stephens City, Virginia, Saturday, December 6, our third time playing here. This one will feature some Christmas music from our “Evening in the Round” trio.

Then Sunday evening, we’ll travel over to Waynesboro, Virginia, to play the historic Wayne Theatre for the first time.

One of the nice things about being in Virginia is that my sister Vicky is close enough to attend one of the shows. Looking forward to that.

AND THE AWARD GOES TO…

I was asked to be a presenter again this year at the Trop Rock Music Awards Show coming up in Gulf Shores. I’ll be presenting the radio awards again, and it’s a pleasure to do so.

The Awards Show is part of the big Parrot Head week known as MOTM, which runs October 22-26, that I will be co-emceeing this year, and I’ll be playing in 4 or 5 shows. One of those will be with Brent Burns at Lulu’s on Thursday. It’s going to be a very busy week for sure.

ONE OTHER NEW SHOW

On November 1, I’ll be in Pulaski, Tennessee, for a special Freedom Sings USA concert alongside songwriters Steve Dean, Bobby Tomberlin, and Bill DiLuigi. This one is complete with a red-carpet event before our show. This show will be at the Mule Barn in Pulaski at 6 pm

SONG OF THE DAY

Today, I’m featuring a song that Kristy Cox recorded, “This Is Where You Kiss Me,” which I wrote with my Knoxville buddy, Tim Stafford. Would not be surprised if this wasn’t used as a wedding song someday.

HEALTH NOTES

New research is saying that there are more and more weird side effects from taking the popular new weight loss drugs like Ozempic. Sagging jowls, sulfurous bumps, deflated breasts, and surprise pregnancies are some of those. The use of those weight loss drugs has jumped 700% between 2019 and 2023.

A new analysis is claiming that a popular painkiller, tramadol, which is often prescribed and is taken by millions, doesn’t ease chronic pain and can trigger serious side effects, including heart disease.

Johnson & Johnson has been ordered to pay $966 million in a talc cancer case after a jury found the company liable.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Maybe…yep, maybe.

BIG PUMPKIN

A Montana man just grew the heaviest pumpkin ever. 1,591 pounds of orange.

Pumpkin pie for everyone!

YOUR HONOR

How about this? A lady just won her case in court using ChatGPT. She used it to identify potential errors in a judge’s procedural decisions, and AI charted out her responses. And she won the case. So, add lawyers’ jobs now being affected by the use of AI.

Wonder if she said, “ChatGPT rests its case, your honor"?

TODAY’S QUOTE

From Carol Burnette:

Adolescence is just one big walking pimple”.

TODAY

Off to write with young bluegrass star Caroline Owens, and our buddy Thomm Jutz, who just landed two songs on the new Billy Strings album. Big time stuff there.

Hope Thomm’s luck rubs off on me and Caroline today.

Have a great Wednesday!

Two Nominations...New Show...Back Home This Weekend

BILL BLOG Monday June 30, 2025   Monday morning, the last day of June already, and we’re rolling towards the 4 th of July. And it’s likely to be hot.   With that in mind, did you hear that the inventor of the heat index died?   He was 88 but felt like 107.   Some light rain with a high of 88 is predicted for Nashville today.   THE WEEKEND Over the weekend, I found out that two songs I helped write are up for consideration for the Dove Awards this year. “ Blue Collar Gospel ” was recorded by Jerry Salley and the Oak Ridge Boys, written with Jerry Salley and Rick Lang .   And “ Country Faith ” was recorded by Kristen Leigh Bearfield with gospel great Karen Peck singing harmony, written with Kristen Bearfield and Bob Minner .   “For consideration” means it’s in the early stages of the voting, and we’ll have to wait and see if either song makes it to the final ballot. Either way, it’s pretty cool to have the...

Dove Award Nomination...The American Dream...Baseball Bobbleheads

BILL BLOG Friday June 27, 2025   It’s Friday morning. Are you ready for the weekend?   It will hit 91 for a high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY I had an open day pop-up after my writing session was cancelled at the last second. So I spent some time at my publishing company talking about songs that are being pitched of mine right now with my publisher. And we talked about a new song that I helped write that my publisher likes a lot, but thinks there are parts of it that could be stronger. And he was right.   Songwriting is a competitive business, and getting artists to record your songs is always a challenge. Changing a lyric and making it stronger increases the odds a little that a song may find a home. I’m all about trying to make something good…better.   Further down in this Blog today, you’ll read about a lyric change that led to a smash hit because the writers were willing to make a change.   MORE BLUEBIRD I’m...
