BILL BLOG
Monday October 6, 2025
And the first Monday of October is here. We have some rain in the forecast here in Nashville, and that will drop the temperatures this week, making it feel a bit more like Fall. 77 degrees will be the high today.
THE WEEKEND
Pretty lazy weekend at the Whyte House. Watched a lot of MLB baseball playoff
games, to go with all the football that was on.
I did confirm a new date on my calendar for September of next year. September 11, 2026, I’ll do a show on the beach with Brent Burns for the Biloxi Box Set Music Festival, which I hear is great fun. There will be a bunch of Parrot Heads at that event. That’s a Friday show, and I’m pretty sure Brent and I will then add a show for Saturday, September 12, in the Gulf Shores area. Stay tuned for that.
BUSY TIME OF YEAR

This Thursday, October 9, I’ll be Joe Rucker’s guest on his radio show in Shelbyville, Tennessee.

October 22-25 at MOTM “Meeting of the Minds” in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
November 4 in Durham, North Carolina, for a private event with Linda Davis & Lang Scott.

Complete details for all of these shows can be found in the TOUR section of my website.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
To WSM Radio, the radio home of the Grand Ole Opry for 100 years now. There was a big celebration at the Opry House yesterday to commemorate the event. 100 years! I’m blessed to have been a small part of that history after being an announcer there for 6 or 7 years, and I’ve been a musical guest a time or two as well.
Happy Anniversary 650 AM-WSM!
SONG OF THE DAY
Today I’m choosing the Adam and Amy Pope song “Tonight I’m Playing Patsy”, the first song I wrote with Adam Pope. Adam brought in a partially written idea, and it evolved into a great song that our mutual friend, Darin Aldridge, produced. When you listen, you’ll hear some Patsy Cline song titles and references, including the end of the song that features a lick for Patsy Cline’s huge hit, “Walking After Midnight”. Thanks for such a great idea, Adam.
HEALTH NOTES
A leading nutritionist advises weighing yourself daily if you’re trying to lose weight. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean you will drop any pounds by doing that.
South Carolina is the latest state to confirm a measles outbreak, with U.S. cases now at a 25-year high.
Home births have been on the rise since the pandemic. A distrust of hospitals and medical systems is the reason being given.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Just my luck. Always a day late.
SPACE LIVING
Jeff Bezos is predicting that millions will live in space in the next couple of decades and that robots will handle grunt work, while vast AI data centers will float overhead. So far, no space houses are listed on Zillow…but stay tuned.
FUNNY CARTOON
This one from my friend Randy Brooks out in Texas…the same Randy Brooks that wrote “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer”.
Made me smile.
FALL FESTIVALS
It’s that time of the year. Time for Fall Festivals. And there are some odd ones out there.
The Woolly Worm Festival in Banner Elk, North Carolina, where participants enter woolly worms in races.
The Coarsegold Tarantula Awareness Festival in Coarsegold, California. An event dedicated to appreciating the often-feared tarantula.
And the Fire Ant Festival in Marshall, Texas, where, if memory serves me correctly, my friend Linda Davis once won their beauty pageant.
WHAT A COMBO
And then there was this picture that my musical friend Steve Dean sent me over the weekend.
Wow. Wonder if they put the sushi in a hot dog bun as well?
FLY THE BOOZY SKIES
Air Canada is now offering free wine and beer on its flights. Even in the economy section. I’m waiting for an airline to offer and all you can eat free all-you-can-eat buffet.
BURGER KING
They announced that they are doing away with this scary mascot.
They want to be more kid-friendly, and this guy is far from kid-friendly. Unlike what happened when Cracker Barrel tried to do away with Uncle Herschel, I don’t think there are going to be many folks upset that this guy is gone.
RELIGIOUS
The Pew Research folks just listed the most religious states in the country. Here’s the Top 5.
5…Tennessee
4…Louisiana
3…South Dakota
2…South Carolina
And the MOST religious state is Mississippi. So, with the exception of South Dakota, the south is the most religious section of the country.
THE LEAST RELIGIOUS STATES
46…Nevada
47…Oregon (Tied with Nevada, actually)
48…District of Columbia
49…Maine
50…New Hampshire
And the LEAST religious state in the union is Vermont.
TODAY’S QUOTE
From Larry the Cable Guy:
“I’ve only been in 3 foreign countries. Canada, L.A. and Miami."
TODAY
I’m back rhyming with my talented Canadian friend, Andrea Pearson.
The two of us are still quietly celebrating the new bluegrass single from Caroline Owens that the two of us wrote…” Telluride”.
Have a great Monday!
