Reds Game...Blast On The Bay Schedule..."151"

BILL BLOG

Thursday September 25, 2025

And a good Thursday morning to you from the Queen City…Cincinnati. 75 degrees high in Cincinnati today, with scattered thunderstorms.

YESTERDAY

I made the 5-hour trip from Nashville up to Cincinnati to catch a couple of Reds games. But first…

After a 3-way at Skyline Chili, I threw my bags in the hotel room and made my way to Great American Ballpark.

I really thought the game was going to get rained out, delayed, or both, from all the bad forecasts, but I got lucky and the game went on as planned against the Pirates. And my old piano player, Doug Mayo joined me to root on the Reds.

It was an exciting game, as the Reds were trying to sneak into the playoffs, and they rallied to tie the game in the 9th and 10th innings, only to lose in the 11th. Really tough loss, but a heck of a game. Sigh. I’ll catch one more game this afternoon before heading home, hoping for a winner today.

BLAST ON THE BAY

I just got my schedule for the Blast On The Bay Songwriters Festival in October in beautiful Port St. Joe, Florida.

Friday, October 17, I’ll be at the Lookout Lounge at noon with songwriter Brooks Huntley and my friend Victoria Venier.

Saturday, October 18, Victoria and I will be joined by Dana Hunt Black and Jerry Salley at the Haughty Heron for a 7 pm show.

Sunday, October 19, I play at the Indian Raw Pass Bar at 2 pm with Jerry Salley, Jeff Silvey, Dana Hunt Black, Alex Rohan, Earl Bud Lee, and Donny Lowery.

This is always one of my favorite festivals. Come join us if you can.

SONG OF THE DAY

One of the great things I get to do in my life is write songs with our veterans through the group Freedom Sings USA. Watch THIS VIDEO and you’ll understand why this is such an honor, and such a moving experience.

The video was taken in Marion, Illinois, featuring veteran Art Fager and the Gold Star Mom whose son was killed in action in Iraq. Art Fager was his Captain. I won’t say more, as the video tells the story. Today’s song is “151”.

HEALTH NOTES

A triple-board-certified neurologist is warning that some yoga poses can raise the risk of stroke. Yikes. This pose is one of those.

A massive new study reveals that drinking one cup of black coffee per day leads to a 16% lower risk of death of any of the participants over the study period, for any cause. Study participants who drank 2-3 cups per day had a 17% lower risk of “all-cause mortality.”

The list is growing of medical groups who are rejecting the Trump administration’s claims about Tylenol and Autism.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Good idea!

STILL HERE

Well, once again, the rapture did not happen as some predicted. Wrong again. One crushed believer said, “I didn’t do my exams because I thought it wouldn’t matter”.

Another believer insists, “Someone said it’s been delayed a week.”

So there ya go. I’ll skip any tests I have slotted for next week, just in case.

UNCLE HERSCHEL

The controversy over the Cracker Barrel logo change, which has since been reversed, dropped Cracker Barrel to last, after being first, for the favorite breakfast chain.

That honor now goes to Waffle House, followed by IHOP tied with Denny’s. Don’t mess with Uncle Herschel.

HERE’S A DEAL

It will be National Donut Day on September 29. Singer Joe Jonas is working with Krispy Kreme to offer a FREE coffee and donut that day at Krispy Kreme…no purchase necessary. True.

Joe Jonas is a huge Krispy Kreme fan…and now I think I might be a huge fan of his!

TODAY’S QUOTE

This one from Jim Carrey.

I got a lot of support from my parents. That’s the one thing I always appreciated. They didn’t tell me I was being stupid, they told me I was being funny”.

TODAY

One more baseball game at noon today…Reds vs Pirates. Then back home to Nashville.

Have a great Thursday!

Pensacola...Writing With A Friend....Happy Memorial Day

BILL BLOG Monday May 26, 2025  And a good Memorial Day Monday morning to you from Pensacola, Florida.   THE WEEKEND Mine started Saturday morning by jumping the car with Steve Dean and making the trip from Nashville down here to beautiful Pensacola for this event with Freedom Sings USA.   The event was held at Warrior Beer Company in Pensacola, owned by veteran Gary Hefner .   We rolled into Pensacola around 5 pm Friday, dropped our bags at the hotel, and then made our way over to the Warrior Beer Company for a little meet and greet with our veterans.   Imagine my surprise when I found out that a long-time friend of mine, Larry Hudson , from nearby Gulf Shores, would be the veteran I would be writing with. More on that in a bit.     After our dinner, our songwriter group got on stage and sang a few songs.   After we wrapped up, we headed to a favorite Irish Pub, “McGuire’s,” and closed out the ...

New Song Recorded...Lulu...Book On The Way

BILL BLOG Friday April 25, 2025   Here comes the weekend. It’s Friday once again. A high of 71 today with more rain on the way.   YESTERDAY I wrote with young Taylon Hope for the first time in a long while. Taylon is now a Sophomore at Belmont, University here in Nashville, and she’s chasing her musical dreams. We were to write in person and then one of her professors scheduled a test that would have conflicted so we wrote online instead and created a fun song for her that will be something she can add to her set list when she’s out performing “live”.   I’m rooting for some of her dreams to come true as I am so many other young talents in this crazy creative town.   BURN ME DOWN An American Idol contestant from a year ago, Kennedy Reid reached out to me a few months ago through a producer friers asking for songs for consideration for an album she was going to record. I sent three or 4 songs and ,she recorded one of those that I w...

Baseball Weekend...3 Shows This Week...Sasquatch City

BILL BLOG Monday April 28, 2025   Monday morning has rolled around again. After a high of just 67 in Nashville yesterday, today the temperature will shoot up to an 85-degree high.   THE WEEKEND It was pretty lazy around the Whyte House this weekend. But I did get out to catch my first baseball game of the season on Saturday night and watched our Nashville Sounds beat the Durham Bulls.   It was a great evening for baseball with temperatures just below 70 degrees. And I had the perfect view of the greatest baseball scoreboard ever.  Not a bad way to spend a Saturday night.   BUSY WEEK This week will be much busier as it’s filled with songwriting appointments and I have three shows in a row at the end of the week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.   All three shows are in town, one of them a private corporate gig on Friday morning. For more details on those shows, just click on the TOUR tab here on the website.   ...
