Tweaking...New Start Time For Show...Marathons

BILL BLOG

Tuesday July 1, 2025

How can it already be July?  Geez. It’s Tuesday. A little cooler in Nashville today with a high of 83 with a chance of some light rain.

YESTERDAY

I tweaked a song with Troy Engle online yesterday morning. Troy was in town last week and we got to write face-to-face. Yesterday, Troy was back home in Pennsylvania, and once again, we were face to face on computers.

We took that song last week and worked at making it stronger…and according to my publisher, after hearing and seeing the changes, we did. Mission accomplished.

A CHANGE OF START TIME

My start time for my show this coming Sunday in Florida, Missouri, at the Florida Resort and Winery has changed from 4-6 pm to 2-4 pm this Sunday, July 6. Looks like a cool place, and I’ll be playing out on their patio while folks try the local wine and order off of their menu. Looking forward to it.

SONG OF THE DAY

Since I wrote with Troy yesterday, I’m going to share this song that we wrote together that he recorded on his latest album. This one is a gospel-bluegrass tune titled “Never Too Lost”.

HEALTH NOTES

Extensive research in the UK has found that an immunosuppressant drug turned longevity darling can extend your life just as much as slashing calories can. The drug is rapamycin.

A surprising new study claims that living on or near a golf course is linked to Parkinson’s disease. It has to do with vulnerable groundwater sources associated with golf courses.

With the 4th of July grilling getting ready to begin, over 160,000 pounds of ground beef have been recalled over E.coli concerns. (I’ll have a hot dog please)

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Can I get an Amen?

JULY 4TH WEEKEND

According to those oil and gas people, this will be the cheapest 4th of July weekend since 2021 for those of us traveling. Gas prices on average will be between $3.10-$3.15 a gallon. Here in Nashville, it’s more like $2.45 to $2.50 a gallon.

Meanwhile, they tell us that on average, for those who buy fireworks, they will spend between $100-$300 to stock up on things that go “bang”. Fireworks.

And your 4th of July is really cheap if you just stay home and stand out on your lawn shirtless with sparklers. Don’t ask me how I know.

A LOT OF RUNNING

Edward Molineaux just broke a record. He ran 465 half-marathons in a single year. He’s 34 years old…and really tired. I know I’m exhausted just reading this.

When I was in High School, I somehow wound up on the track team, and the coach made me run long distance. I did that one time. Wound up in the back of the pack and threw up when I finished. That was it for long-distance running for me.

My funny friend and comedian James Gregory, who passed away a couple of years ago, always joked on stage about how when he stayed with some younger comedians on the road that one of them asked if James wanted to join them and go running one morning?

James said, “naw, but if you pass a Krispy Kreme, bring me back a dozen.”

THAT’S A BIG BLADE

How about the truck in Maryland that dropped one of those HUGE wind blades into the middle of traffic on I-70? Wow. One person was taken to a local hospital, and they seem to be okay.

Just a couple of weeks ago, I was traveling with Freedom Sings USA to write with veterans in Heyworth, Illinois, and I took a picture of one of those blades loaded on a truck making a big turn on the highway. I’m going to give myself even more room if I ever run into one of those bad boys again.

 HEALTHY?

My wife gave me such a great Christmas gift a few years ago.

These things make such great ice cream. It’s been collecting dust for a bit as I’m TRYING to eat a little healthier. But last night my wife and I spent some time putting effort into making healthy ice cream that I HOPE might taste good. Healthy and tasting good don’t usually go hand in hand in my little eating world.

Tonight, we’ll put our now frozen concoction into the Ninja, give it a few whirls, and tomorrow I’ll let you know the results. Ice cream fingers crossed.

DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2

It’s coming…a sequel, and all the main stars will be returning: Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. If it’s half as good as the original, I’ll be paying for a 10-dollar box of popcorn at the movie theater.

 RETIREMENT CITIES

An article claims that these are the 8 cities in the country that retirees are flocking to right now. Sarasota, Florida, Scottsdale, AZ, Charleston, SC, Boise, Idaho, Austin, Texas, Portland, Maine, Savannah, Georgia, and Asheville, North Carolina. Just so ya know.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Storm Chasing Couple Get Engaged In Front Of A Tornado In South Dakota. (I think it was a F-2 proposal)

TODAY

Nothing big on the calendar. I’ll be looking ahead to my 2 shows in Missouri this 4th of July weekend and putting together a song list for those two shows. July 5 in Louisiana, Missouri, and July 6 in Stoutsville, Missouri.

Have a great Tuesday!

ACM Awards Show...Frank Brown Songwriters Festival...Mother's Day Weekend

BILL BLOG Friday May 9, 2025  Here we go sneaking into a weekend. It’s Friday. Just 71 for the high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY My Thursday morning started online writing a new up-tempo bluegrass song with Troy Engle in Pennsylvania. Troy plays every instrument that has strings on it, sings, writes, produces…not much he can’t do musically. When he lived in Nashville, he hung out a lot with Tom T Hall , played on numerous recording sessions, and was out on the road playing some instrument with the likes of Eric Church , The Isaacs and a long list of country stars.   But several years ago, Troy moved back to PA with his family and plays some shows up there with his family band, but still does a lot of recording work from home. He told me yesterday that his daughter may enroll at a University in Nashville next year and that might bring him back to Music City. It would be great to have him here and get to work him in person more.   ...

Friends Honored...Father's Day...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Monday June 16, 2025   Another Monday has rolled around. And it’s a packing day for me with a road trip tomorrow to Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.   We will hit 85 for a high today in Nashville.   Meanwhile, over the weekend, the National Weather Service issued the “first-ever” heat warning for Alaska.   THE WEEKEND Friday morning, I wrote a new song with my friend Rick Lang , who was in town for a week’s worth of songwriting. Rick lives out in New Hampshire, but drives to Nashville at least once a month to write. He always brings great song ideas with him, and we wrote one of those Friday morning.  His “Blue Collar Gospel” album, “Songs of Rick Lang” has done very well for Billy Blue Records. I was blessed to be a writer on the title track that was recorded by our friend Jerry Salley with the Oak Ridge Boys .     And he’s working towards another full album project that will be kind of un...

Illinois Today...Some Nominations...Bluebird Tickets On Sale

BILL BLOG Wednesday June 18, 2025   Good morning from Heyworth, Illinois. We have a 74 degree high on tap here today with some rain mixed with the sun.   YESTERDAY Myself and 4 other Nashville songwriters made the trip from Nashville up to Heyworth for our Freedom Sings USA retreat here where today we will write some veteran stories into songs.   You know you’re in central Illinois when you roll past these bad boys.   This is our second trip to Heyworth, which is just 10 minutes away from Bloomington, Illinois. The event is held at the local American Legion Hall, where they treated me, Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean & Bill DiLuigi to a great dinner. And then the 4 of us played music for those gathered before we came back to the hotel to rest up for today.  Small town, great folks who are proud of their town, and patriotic.   LUCKY One of the founders of Freedom Sings USA is Don Goodman , who is also a hit writ...
