BILL BLOG
Tuesday July 15, 2025
Here comes Tuesday.
We had a heck of a pop-up storm yesterday evening that knocked power out for over 4 hours. Wind, and HEAVY rain, and flash flooding in an instant, and it was only in the part of Nashville that we live in. We got 3 inches of rain in less than an hour, which caused some flash flooding in the area.
A 90-degree high with some more rain expected here today. It’s been a really weird summer so far.
YESTERDAY
It was fun being in the room with both Alex Miller and Stuie French working on a song idea with some humor in it that Stuie brought with him. The song is about a guy who invites a girl to come to Nashville, thinking she would love the town like he (and a lot of us do), but she’s from the East Coast, and Music City was not her thing. We’ve got a little more work to do on it before it’s completely finished, but it will be one that makes folks laugh a little when they hear it.
A NEW SHOW DATE
December 7, I’ll be in Waynesboro, Virginia, with Linda Davis, Lang Scott, and our “Evening in the Round” show. We’ll be playing at the Wayne Theatre at 7 that night.
The night before, we’ll be returning for the third time to play the “Faith, Love, and Laughter” concert at the Valley Bible Church in Stephens City, Virginia. Show time for that one is 6 pm. Virginia, we’re coming to see ya!
SONG OF THE DAY
Today, it’s the song “Built That Way” that was recorded by the husband-wife duet team of Ayla Brown and Rob Bellamy. We wrote this when they were living here in Music City. They now live near Boston, where both of them are originally from.
Ayla was a Top 5 girl on American Idol one year, and she played some serious basketball for Boston College.
And Rob played top-tier minor league hockey and was an enforcer, a guy who was in a lot of hockey fights. So, I never argued very hard with Rob about a line in a song because I value my teeth.
Both of them are red, white, and blue, and our song reflects some of those values.
HEALTH NOTES
America’s dairy farmers and ice cream producers have agreed to quit using artificial colors.
A study finds there is no link between aluminum in vaccines and asthma or autism.
Another study from Norway claims that 78 minutes of walking on average per day significantly reduces the risk of chronic low back pain.
DOING HEALTHY THINGS
I was watching a video of the late Jerry Reed on a TV show where he was telling George Jones and others about how brilliant the song “Still Gonna Die” is, written by Shel Silverstein. And he’s right.
And he’s right…It is brilliant. Here’s the opening lyrics before a note of the song is sung:
So you're taking better care of your body
Becoming more aware of your body
Responding to your body's needs
Everything you hear and read about diets, nutrition
And sleeping position, and detoxifying your system
And buying machines that they advertise to help you exercise
Herbs to revitalize you if you're traumatized
Soaps that will sanitize, sprays to deodorize
And liquids to neutralize acids and pesticides
Free weights to maximize your strength and muscle size
Shots that will immunize, and pills to re-energize you
But remember that for all your pain and gain
Eventually, the story ends the same
And after all of that, “you’re still gonna, still gonna, still gonna die.”
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Cold…really cold.
MORE ON AI AND THE FUTURE
Microsoft recently laid off 9,000 workers. White collar jobs. 30% or more of Microsoft’s code is now being written by AI. An analyst writes, “The question isn’t whether AI will displace workers, but which workers.” Safe to say that a lot of laptop jobs are going away.
DOLLY PARTON SAYS…
“I would rather wear out than rust out.” Can I get an amen?
BEWARE OF TIGHT PANTS
Actress-singer Suki Waterhouse admitted that she has been recovering from a hernia. How did that happen? Her pants were too tight. Uh huh.
If you have to use axle grease and a shoehorn to get into your pants, it’s time to think about buying a larger size.
GETTING OLDER
Author Mike Dubose put together a list of funny signs that you’re getting older. Couple made me laugh out loud.
You sometimes speed to get to your destination just so you don’t forget where you’re going.
WebMD.com is your most-used website.
When you go to a store, the first thing you do is figure out where the bathrooms are located.
And my favorite, People think you are patient, but the reality is that you just don’t care about unimportant things anymore.
TODAY’S HEADLINE
Move The Deer Crossing To Where There’s Less Traffic. (Makes good sense, don’t it?)
TODAY
I’m working on a couple of songs that I wrote for Freedom Sings USA with two veterans from Heyworth, Illinois. Tomorrow, I have some studio time to lay the basic tracks down, and then in the near future, Freedom Sings will have an entire album of songs written with veterans from that region. A great gift for those veterans, and a great way for our Nashville songwriter group to say “thank you” for their service to our country.
TONIGHT
I’m going to catch my friends, the French Family Band and Jimmy Fortune, in concert here in town, along with special guests and musicians like the incredible Jeff Taylor, who is the best accordion-piano player in the business. Check out this VIDEO of this group from the last time they played at the venue Third and Lindsley, tearing up the song from Steely Dan, “Reelin’ In the Years” featuring Jeff on the lead vocal. A taste of what folks get to hear when this ensemble gets together on stage. Looking forward to seeing them.
Have a great Tuesday!
