Reds Trip...Living The American Dream...Things In The Road

BILL BLOG

Tuesday June 3, 2025

Hello Tuesday morning. Warming up to 87 for a high in Music City today.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with hit writers Brian White & Don Poythress yesterday out at Brian’s mini-farm, where he has a converted garage that he turned into a writing studio. Surrounded by ducks, miniature horses, chickens, and I’m not sure what else. Great place to write.

Brian and I talked a bit about our Cincinnati Reds, and I found out that Don is a Reds fan as well. Did not know that until yesterday. I’m going to see the Reds this coming weekend in Cincinnati, and when Brian heard that, he said, “Me too”!  What?  Complete accident.

So…I will see Brian and his wife Karyn Williams, who is a big Christian music artist. So, extra fun at the ballpark in Ohio this weekend. Bonus.

Brian brought up an idea to write that Don and I liked, and that’s what we wrote. A song about all the craziness going on in the world and the person one can turn to when the world is truly upside down. It’s a song that we’ll be able to pitch to Country artists as well as Christian music artists. Great day at the writing table that ended with a pretty danged good Mexican lunch.

SONG TEASE

Katrina Burgoyne is about to release her new single “Living The American Dream” in the next few days…a fun song the two of us co-wrote.

Katrina moved here from Australia, found a great husband, and the two have a baby they are raising in the States. It’s not easy being a singer-songwriter while trying to make ends meet and raise a child, but somehow she and her husband are doing just that. And that’s kind of what our song is about.

Take a look at this new TEASE for that upcoming single.

SONG OF THE DAY

I’m choosing another song I wrote with my friend Brent Burns,20 Bucks Is 20 Bucks”. And there’s a great story about this song. It’s a funny tune for sure, but Brent tells me that when he sings this song in his shows, many folks will go up to the stage and drop a 20-dollar bill in his tip jar! Wow. I have GOT to start singing this song in some of my shows.

Either that or I’m going to write and sing the sequel, “A hundred bucks is a hundred bucks”.

HEALTH NOTES

A study indicates that daily coffee drinking is linked to major health benefits in women as they age.

Another study warns that toxic heavy metals have been found in all rice samples bought across US stores.

US health officials are urging all international travelers to get a measles vaccination shot amid outbreaks.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

 A true baseball fan there.

THEM AND US

Some of the very wealthy own big ole superyachts. 100 million and up. Turns out that it costs $250,000 to fill up that gas tank…ONCE.

Somebody once asked, “You know what BOAT stands for, right”?  It means Bring Out Another Thousand.

 TWINS

A pair of twins in England are celebrating their 100th birthday together. Bill and Jack Casey. Both say it’s important to stay active. And both say that they fully intended to live to be 100 years old, and can’t wait for the next 100 years. I always love optimists. Happy Birthday.

WILLS

People leave strange requests in their wills sometimes.

One woman left all her money to a donkey sanctuary. I’m guessing her husband may have been a jackass. Just guessing.

A vindictive grandmother left her sister $20 as a reminder of the $20 her sister once stole from her purse.

And then one man left a dictionary to his son, saying, “Hopefully, he can use it to find the words he needs to apologize.”

THE SONG

And with all of that, this is the funniest song about wills that I’ve heard, that I’ve posted before. “Where There’s A Will There’s ARelative”.

BIKERS BEWARE

Two motorcycle riders were hospitalized in Florida after they hit a 6-foot alligator that was in the middle of the road. Yikes. Fortunately, the injuries they suffered are non-threatening.

I’ve owned a bike a couple of times. Not only do you learn to be a “defensive” driver because of people who don’t seem to see you coming, but you also keep your eyes open for any animal on the road. I had a deer jump out in front of me once at night in Colorado when I was on a bike run out west. That aged me another 20 years, I think, and forced me to change my underwear.

TODAY’S HEADLINE

Dead Man Told To Go Back To Work. (Tough boss)

TODAY

I’m writing with Krystal King for the first time. Krystal works on Margaritaville Radio, is a Trop Rock artist and songwriter, AND she will be my co-emcee this year at MOTM in Gulf Shores, the big gathering of Parrot Head Fans.

So, we’ll get to meet each other, and write before we jump on a bunch of stages in Gulf Shores with microphones. Looking forward to it.

STUDIO

Then this afternoon, I’ll be in a recording studio recording a new song I wrote recently with Wil Nance and Irene Kelley. We recorded the tracks for the new song a couple of weeks ago, and today we are going to add vocals to that track. It’s always fun to hear new songs come to life.

Have a great Tuesday!

BILL BLOG Friday May 9, 2025  Here we go sneaking into a weekend. It’s Friday. Just 71 for the high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY My Thursday morning started online writing a new up-tempo bluegrass song with Troy Engle in Pennsylvania. Troy plays every instrument that has strings on it, sings, writes, produces…not much he can’t do musically. When he lived in Nashville, he hung out a lot with Tom T Hall , played on numerous recording sessions, and was out on the road playing some instrument with the likes of Eric Church , The Isaacs and a long list of country stars.   But several years ago, Troy moved back to PA with his family and plays some shows up there with his family band, but still does a lot of recording work from home. He told me yesterday that his daughter may enroll at a University in Nashville next year and that might bring him back to Music City. It would be great to have him here and get to work him in person more.   ...

Friends Honored...Father's Day...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Monday June 16, 2025   Another Monday has rolled around. And it’s a packing day for me with a road trip tomorrow to Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.   We will hit 85 for a high today in Nashville.   Meanwhile, over the weekend, the National Weather Service issued the “first-ever” heat warning for Alaska.   THE WEEKEND Friday morning, I wrote a new song with my friend Rick Lang , who was in town for a week’s worth of songwriting. Rick lives out in New Hampshire, but drives to Nashville at least once a month to write. He always brings great song ideas with him, and we wrote one of those Friday morning.  His “Blue Collar Gospel” album, “Songs of Rick Lang” has done very well for Billy Blue Records. I was blessed to be a writer on the title track that was recorded by our friend Jerry Salley with the Oak Ridge Boys .     And he’s working towards another full album project that will be kind of un...

Illinois Today...Some Nominations...Bluebird Tickets On Sale

BILL BLOG Wednesday June 18, 2025   Good morning from Heyworth, Illinois. We have a 74 degree high on tap here today with some rain mixed with the sun.   YESTERDAY Myself and 4 other Nashville songwriters made the trip from Nashville up to Heyworth for our Freedom Sings USA retreat here where today we will write some veteran stories into songs.   You know you’re in central Illinois when you roll past these bad boys.   This is our second trip to Heyworth, which is just 10 minutes away from Bloomington, Illinois. The event is held at the local American Legion Hall, where they treated me, Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean & Bill DiLuigi to a great dinner. And then the 4 of us played music for those gathered before we came back to the hotel to rest up for today.  Small town, great folks who are proud of their town, and patriotic.   LUCKY One of the founders of Freedom Sings USA is Don Goodman , who is also a hit writ...
