American Dream...CMA FEST...Earnhardt

BILL BLOG

Wednesday June 5, 2025

Thursday morning, Nashville is loaded up with country music fans in town for CMA Fest. A high of 88 today with some light rain coming our way.

YESTERDAY

I had a quiet anniversary celebration with my wife Kathy yesterday. We received a lot of nice “congrats” on the social networks, so thank you to all who reached out. We appreciate it. We did a whole bunch of nothing together…just the way we like it. Lucky to have this one in my life for so long.

We call that our black and Whyte marriage photo.

LINE DANCING

Check out my friend Katrina Burgoyne dancing to our songLiving The American Dream” that’s coming out as her new single in a couple of days that we wrote together.’

FYI…if you see me singing our song someday, don’t expect to see me trying to dance to it like she does. A man could hurt himself.

SONG OF THE DAY

Can’t Run Away” is a song that a friend and former American Idol, Ayla Brown, recorded on one of her albums. And these days, when I hear it, it makes me feel a little melancholy.

That’s because another songwriter by the name of Rick Tiger invited me to sit in and write with the two of them. Rick is a guy who truly LOVED the art of songwriting. And we lost him in 2020 to COVID. One of those guys everyone in this town liked a lot.

Thanks for the songs and for so many great memories Rick.

HEALTH NOTES

Research is saying that babies exposed to pet dogs in their first year of life were less likely to develop eczema if they carried the DNA variant that increases their risk for the condition.

Medicare negotiations are underway to lower prices for the next batch of drugs, including weight loss drugs like Ozempic.

Some researchers think that Castor Oil may boost your hair health if you apply it.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Uh oh. Pretty sure I’m going to jail.

NASHVILLE

You know Nashville is a hot destination when one of the Kardashians shows up. That’s what happened yesterday when some tourists spotted Khloe Kardashian serving drinks at a popular honkytonk while wearing a cowboy hat.

 There’s no saving us now.

ALSO

Besides seeing a Kardashian in Nashville, here’s something else you don’t see every day. A wild elephant in Thailand crashes into a grocery store.

The elephant went straight to the snack aisle. Proving that elephants and humans are not all that different.

AI IS NOT GOING AWAY

Proof of that is in the fact that Amazon just invested 10 BILLION dollars into AI. And an under-30-year-old female Lucy Guo just became richer than Taylor Swift by selling an AI app that she developed. She’s worth something like 1.3 billion dollars.

What’s a person that young do with so much money? Well, she’s invested part of it into a large Pokémon collection.

I’m pretty sure Jim Cramer didn’t advise that.

 MARRIAGE QUOTE

This one from actor Ray Romano who says, “My wife gets all the money I make. I just get an apple and clean clothes every morning”.

NASCAR

If you’re a fan of racing at all…you might like the new documentary on Prime, “Earnhardt”. I watched 3 episodes last night and I’m hooked. Dale Jr, his sister, brother, Darrell Waltrip, Kyle Petty, Jeff Gordon, and others are featured. No part of Dale’s life is untouched or not talked about. Fascinating, even if you’re not a race fan. Here’s the TRAILER for the show you can check out.

I have to admit, I was slow on NASCAR. When I took the morning radio job at WSM-FM here in Nashville, I had not watched a lot of races. But in the south, it’s a big deal. And I found out how big a deal it was when Dale died in that crash in Daytona. My Program Director at the time encouraged me to watch some races and literally “get up to speed” on the sport because it was such a big deal here. And when Dale died, I was selected to read a touching letter that Dale Jr wrote about his Father at a large gathering at the Bridgestone Arena here in town. Huge crowd for the memorial. Vince Gill sang “Go Rest High On That Mountain”.

After the services, I was one of 6 folks selected to push one of Dale’s #3 Goodyear cars out of Bridgestone down Lower Broadway to the Cumberland River where a hauler was waiting to take it home to North Carolina. When we pushed the car around the corner onto Lower Broadway that night, fans were lined up. Many crying. Many wanting to touch the car. It was a very surreal and touching moment.

Watch the series and you’ll understand what a big deal he was.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Man Threw Snail At Car In A Street Fight. (Where does one find a snail to throw?)

TODAY

I’m off to write wit a couple  of my favorites, Thomm Jutz, and Caroline Owens this morning. Thomm is just back from a European tour, so it will be interesting to hear some stories of that tour.

And knowing Caroline, I’m betting she’ll have a new BIG fish story to tell.

Have a great Wednesday!

ACM Awards Show...Frank Brown Songwriters Festival...Mother's Day Weekend

BILL BLOG Friday May 9, 2025  Here we go sneaking into a weekend. It’s Friday. Just 71 for the high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY My Thursday morning started online writing a new up-tempo bluegrass song with Troy Engle in Pennsylvania. Troy plays every instrument that has strings on it, sings, writes, produces…not much he can’t do musically. When he lived in Nashville, he hung out a lot with Tom T Hall , played on numerous recording sessions, and was out on the road playing some instrument with the likes of Eric Church , The Isaacs and a long list of country stars.   But several years ago, Troy moved back to PA with his family and plays some shows up there with his family band, but still does a lot of recording work from home. He told me yesterday that his daughter may enroll at a University in Nashville next year and that might bring him back to Music City. It would be great to have him here and get to work him in person more.   ...

Friends Honored...Father's Day...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Monday June 16, 2025   Another Monday has rolled around. And it’s a packing day for me with a road trip tomorrow to Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.   We will hit 85 for a high today in Nashville.   Meanwhile, over the weekend, the National Weather Service issued the “first-ever” heat warning for Alaska.   THE WEEKEND Friday morning, I wrote a new song with my friend Rick Lang , who was in town for a week’s worth of songwriting. Rick lives out in New Hampshire, but drives to Nashville at least once a month to write. He always brings great song ideas with him, and we wrote one of those Friday morning.  His “Blue Collar Gospel” album, “Songs of Rick Lang” has done very well for Billy Blue Records. I was blessed to be a writer on the title track that was recorded by our friend Jerry Salley with the Oak Ridge Boys .     And he’s working towards another full album project that will be kind of un...

Illinois Today...Some Nominations...Bluebird Tickets On Sale

BILL BLOG Wednesday June 18, 2025   Good morning from Heyworth, Illinois. We have a 74 degree high on tap here today with some rain mixed with the sun.   YESTERDAY Myself and 4 other Nashville songwriters made the trip from Nashville up to Heyworth for our Freedom Sings USA retreat here where today we will write some veteran stories into songs.   You know you’re in central Illinois when you roll past these bad boys.   This is our second trip to Heyworth, which is just 10 minutes away from Bloomington, Illinois. The event is held at the local American Legion Hall, where they treated me, Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean & Bill DiLuigi to a great dinner. And then the 4 of us played music for those gathered before we came back to the hotel to rest up for today.  Small town, great folks who are proud of their town, and patriotic.   LUCKY One of the founders of Freedom Sings USA is Don Goodman , who is also a hit writ...
