And a good Tuesday morning to all. Our weather forecast is like a broken record these days. More rain is on the way with a high of 73 in Nashville.
YESTERDAY
My day came open for the most part when my writing session with the bluegrass duo Darin & Brooke Aldridge was cancelled…for a good reason. Brooke had forgotten they were going to be in the studio for three days recording new songs. I told her that was fine as long as ALL of those songs were songs we’ve written together. She laughed too. We’ve written quite a few over the past year and a half, so I am hopeful that a song or two will make it on this new album they are working on. Time will tell.
NEW SHOW
I’m going to be back, the world-famous Bluebird Café for a late-night songwriters round on Wednesday night June 25. It’s the late show…the 9 pm show that evening. I’ll be hosting songwriters Brian White, Wil Nance, and one other songwriter to be named.
Every show sells out instantly. Tickets go on sale one week before the show. More information can be found in the TOUR section on the website. I’ll be throwing up some “tickets are on sale” reminders as we get closer to that date. These are always unforgettable nights for the writers and the audience.
SONG OF THE DAY
I’m choosing another Brent Burns song today that we wrote together. My buddy is in New York right now with his son after having back surgery yesterday. Not an easy one for sure. He’s got a terrific surgeon so we’re all confident that after a long rehab, he’s going to feel like a new guy with no pain in his back. That would be nice.
This song is titled “If Not Now, When”. It’s all about not putting off things we say we want to do, but we keep pushing them back and thinking we’ll make those things happen one day. But as you get older, you start to understand that another day is not promised. This song is on Brent's album "My Jukebox At The Beach"that won "Best Album of the Year" at the Trop Rock Awards in Key West a few years ago.
My friend Mr. Burns has lived a very full life. Traveled the world and created a ton of great memories. And that thought partially inspired our song as well.
HEALTH NOTES
Doctors have discovered a drug already on the market that could prevent 1 million new cases of Alzheimer’s a year. A new study has found that nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors…a common class of medications for HIV…could dramatically decrease that risk.
County officials in California have issued an urgent alert seeking anyone who may have come into contact with a rabid bat at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
A new study claims that we emit light that evaporates when we die.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
DANGEROUS STATES
US News & World Report just listed the most dangerous states to live in. Here’s the Top 5.
5…Arkansas
4…Tennessee (What!?)
3…Louisiana
2…Los Angeles
And the most dangerous state to live in? New Mexico. Who knew? And New York isn’t in the Top 10.
MARRIAGE QUOTE
This one from actress Anne Bancroft who once said, “The best way to get most husbands to do something is to suggest that perhaps they’re too old to do it.”.
KEEP YOUR CLOTHES ON
The Cannes Film Festival says it will allow no nudity on the red carpet this year. I’m not sure which film star or which celebrity they are worried about. I’m going to guess it’s whoever is with Kanye West.
I worked a red-carpet event once for the CMA Awards in Nashville. I had a microphone and waited for the country stars and celebrities to arrive, then I would grab quick interviews with them before they walked into the Bridgestone Arena for the awards show. I’m happy to say Alan Jackson and Reba were both fully clothed.
I’ve done scores of interviews through the years. Never interviewed anyone without their clothes on. I’m not sure what questions I would ask. “SO nice to see you” seems kind of wrong.
SPEAKING OF INTERVIEWS
I had the chance to spend a little time with Judge Judy one morning when I was doing radio in Milwaukee. I was broadcasting “live” on a Walmart parking lot for a week, raising money for the Child Abuse Prevention Fund in Wisconsin. Long days, but we raised a lot of money for a great cause.
One of those morning,s Judge Judy, who was in Milwaukee for something, came by to offer her support. She was very quick on her feet, self effacing, smart, and funny. A joy to be around.
And I would bet she’s laughing hard at this AI-generated takeoff of her Judge Judy show. She’s a baby, interviewing a couple of babies. And it’s gone viral. Check THIS OUT for a laugh.
WORKING LONGER
More and more folks 65 and older are working longer. According to the Pew Research Center, 19% of Seniors were working in 2024 compared to 11% in 1987. And 64% of folks say they worry more about running out of money before they die than they do about dying.
That kind of goes back to my choice for the “Song of the Day”. If Not Now…When?
TODAY’S HEADLINE
Woman Falls In Hospital, Told To Call Ambulance. (At least it will be a really short ride)
TODAY
I’m off to write this morning with Wil Nance and Irene Kelley. We are going to polish up a song we wrote last week to make sure it’s as good as we can get it. We’re adding Craig Fuller, the lead singer for Pure Prairie League for a few years. He is also the solo-writer of the iconic hit “Amie”. So that may give you a clue as to where this new song is headed.
Have a great Tuesday!
