Beer Song...New Show...Tush Push

BILL BLOG

Tuesday May 20, 2025

Tuesday morning coming at ya. A high of 85 is predicted for Nashville today with a little more rain in the forecast. I’m pretty sure we’ve hit our quota for precipitation this year.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with my young, talented Aussie friend yesterday, Angus Gill. Always fun, as he has a keen sense of humor. Yesterday he brought a very fun idea to the writing table that we wrote. The song deals with ALL of those many Craft Beers that one can choose from these days when they walk into their bar. Finding a Miller, or Bud, or Pabst can be a challenge in those places. And that’s the thought we chased together at my publishing company.

Angus shared they he’s recording an album that’s being produced out in Los Angeles, right now. He’s spent a little time out there on the West Coast recently doing this.

Angus is also having some fun doing TikTok videos of an “Australian Trying American Food”. I jumped into a segment we filmed at the publishing company yesterday after Angus had gone and raided our snack bar. Pretty funny stuff. As soon as he’s edited the video, I’ll share it here.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today’s song is “Dirt Road,” recorded by another Aussie friend, Kristy Cox that I wrote with her and her producer Jerry Salley. It’s all about buying a piece of property off the grid and getting back to living a simpler life. Sort of like the way I grew up.

NEW SHOW DATE

September 13 I’ll be returning to Main and Monroe in Lexington, Tennessee for another show with Lauren Mascitti.

Main and Monroe is a really cool restaurant café that sits on the town square in Lexington. GREAT food. And it’s small and intimate…perfect for songwriter shows. Show time will be at 6:30 pm, and I’ll be posting more details on my Tour Calendar here on the website soon.

Make plans to join us if you can. You’ll love this place.

HEALTH NOTES

Research suggests that there is a disturbing link between microplastics, ultra-processed foods and mental health. Higher risk of depression, anxiety, and poor sleep are all in play because of it.

Some TikTok users are claiming that a large Coke and a large order of fries from McDonald’s helps cure migraine headaches. They call it the McMigraine. Doctors are quick to point out that it’s not a McCure.

Some good news. The US hasn’t seen a human bird flu case in 3 months.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

 I have no idea.

MONEY

How much income do you need to make to be in the top 5% of each state? It varies. I did check though. In my home state of Missouri, I would need to make $410,472. Here in Tennessee, it would be $435,495.

And if you live in New York? You need to make over $600,000 to be in the top 5%. If you want to check your state…here’s the LIST.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ASK YOUR WIFE

One guy asked his wife, “Am I the only one you’ve ever been with?”

And his wife replied, “Yes, all the others had been nines and tens.”

TUSH PUSH

The Green Bay Packers have a proposal in to the NFL hoping to stop the “Tush Push” that the world champion Philadelphia Eagles use with so much success on short-yardage plays. Bunch of grown men pushing another grown man’s butt forward to gain a first down.

A couple of thoughts. I’m not sure why other teams don’t copy what they’re doing.

And second, for the record, I don’t want anybody pushing my tush. But that’s just me.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Scientists To Kill Ducks To See Why They’re Dying. (Nuff said right there)

TODAY

Writing with a couple of talented ladies, singers, and songwriters today. That would be Caroline Owens whose current single “You’ve Still Got It” has been number one for multiple weeks on the bluegrass charts right now.

And Lauren Mascitti will be joining the two of us today. Pretty sure there will be some magic in the writing room today.

Have a great Tuesday!

ACM Awards Show...Frank Brown Songwriters Festival...Mother's Day Weekend

BILL BLOG Friday May 9, 2025  Here we go sneaking into a weekend. It’s Friday. Just 71 for the high today in Nashville.   YESTERDAY My Thursday morning started online writing a new up-tempo bluegrass song with Troy Engle in Pennsylvania. Troy plays every instrument that has strings on it, sings, writes, produces…not much he can’t do musically. When he lived in Nashville, he hung out a lot with Tom T Hall , played on numerous recording sessions, and was out on the road playing some instrument with the likes of Eric Church , The Isaacs and a long list of country stars.   But several years ago, Troy moved back to PA with his family and plays some shows up there with his family band, but still does a lot of recording work from home. He told me yesterday that his daughter may enroll at a University in Nashville next year and that might bring him back to Music City. It would be great to have him here and get to work him in person more.   ...

Friends Honored...Father's Day...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Monday June 16, 2025   Another Monday has rolled around. And it’s a packing day for me with a road trip tomorrow to Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.   We will hit 85 for a high today in Nashville.   Meanwhile, over the weekend, the National Weather Service issued the “first-ever” heat warning for Alaska.   THE WEEKEND Friday morning, I wrote a new song with my friend Rick Lang , who was in town for a week’s worth of songwriting. Rick lives out in New Hampshire, but drives to Nashville at least once a month to write. He always brings great song ideas with him, and we wrote one of those Friday morning.  His “Blue Collar Gospel” album, “Songs of Rick Lang” has done very well for Billy Blue Records. I was blessed to be a writer on the title track that was recorded by our friend Jerry Salley with the Oak Ridge Boys .     And he’s working towards another full album project that will be kind of un...

Illinois Today...Some Nominations...Bluebird Tickets On Sale

BILL BLOG Wednesday June 18, 2025   Good morning from Heyworth, Illinois. We have a 74 degree high on tap here today with some rain mixed with the sun.   YESTERDAY Myself and 4 other Nashville songwriters made the trip from Nashville up to Heyworth for our Freedom Sings USA retreat here where today we will write some veteran stories into songs.   You know you’re in central Illinois when you roll past these bad boys.   This is our second trip to Heyworth, which is just 10 minutes away from Bloomington, Illinois. The event is held at the local American Legion Hall, where they treated me, Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean & Bill DiLuigi to a great dinner. And then the 4 of us played music for those gathered before we came back to the hotel to rest up for today.  Small town, great folks who are proud of their town, and patriotic.   LUCKY One of the founders of Freedom Sings USA is Don Goodman , who is also a hit writ...
