New Song...Movie Quotes...Dill Peeps

BILL BLOG

Thursday April 17, 2025

And here comes Thursday. It’s going to warm up to 79 today in Music City.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with producer-songwriter-singer-record label head Jerry Salley. The man wears a lot of hats. And well I might add. Jerry has won numerous awards for his talents through the years and has had over 500 of his songs recorded by artists through the years including this great new song from Chris Stapleton on “It Takes a Woman”. Yes…I’m jealous of that one.

I saw Jerry last week at my publishing company and told him I was working on a new song. When I told him the title he lit up and asked if he could write that idea with me. And that’s what we did yesterday. I had a start on the song but Jerry heard it differently than I did. Musically speaking. And he came up with a killer melody that fit the lyrics seamlessly. It’s for a girl, and the song is a little, edgy so now we’re trying to think who that might be, and how to get the song to them.

Jerry tends to make songs better. And yesterday was no exception.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today’s song is “Honey Don’t Do List” that I wrote with Lisa Shaffer and Aussie Phil Barton several years ago on Music Row. I remember there being a lot of laughter in the room that day as we put this list of things together that a wife doesn’t want a husband to do. It went on my “Leave Em’ Laughing CD”.

HEALTH NOTES

RFK Jr. says HHS will research six environmental factors, such as mold, medicine, and ultrasounds for a potential link to autism.

700 cases of measles now in the US with five new cases being reported in Kansas yesterday.

A study suggests that 95% of flu and herpes infections can be neutralized by chewing gum.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Can I get an Amen?!

ACCORDING TO FILM EXPERTS

These would be the top 5 movie quotes of all time.

5 “Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore. (Wizard of Oz)

4 “You don’t understand! I coulda had class.” (On the Waterfront)

3 “I’m going to make him an offer he can’t refuse.” (Godfather)

2 Here’s looking at you kid.” (Casablanca)

1 “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn” (Gone With The Wind)

I always kind of liked “Lighten Up Francis” in the movie Stripes from Sgt. Hulka.

SPEAKING OF HOLLYWOOD

A Hollywood celebrity was once asked about his mansion that he owned. “How many bathrooms does it have?” was the question. The answer, “I can seat 16.”

UH…NO

I know Easter’s coming up but I don’t see me biting into danged Peep that tastes like a pickle. I’ll stick with my chocolate Easter Bunny. And don’t forget, proper etiquette is to start with the ears.

COLLEGE CHANT

College sports fans have some great chants. Especially the student sections who can be very creative at times.

Austin Peay University is just up the road in Clarksville, Tennessee, home of Fort Campbell. If you ever go to an Austin Peay game you’ll hear the students shout, “Let’s Go Peay”. And you can wear it on a shirt if you’d like.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Grandmother’s Head Yanked Out of 23-Foot Python After She Went Missing in Indonesia. (Yikes. Don’t let Granny wander far from the house y’all.)

TODAY

No writing today, so I’ll have fun figuring out what to do with myself. My wife says that…a lot.

Have a great Thursday!

Pensacola...Writing With A Friend....Happy Memorial Day

BILL BLOG Monday May 26, 2025  And a good Memorial Day Monday morning to you from Pensacola, Florida.   THE WEEKEND Mine started Saturday morning by jumping the car with Steve Dean and making the trip from Nashville down here to beautiful Pensacola for this event with Freedom Sings USA.   The event was held at Warrior Beer Company in Pensacola, owned by veteran Gary Hefner .   We rolled into Pensacola around 5 pm Friday, dropped our bags at the hotel, and then made our way over to the Warrior Beer Company for a little meet and greet with our veterans.   Imagine my surprise when I found out that a long-time friend of mine, Larry Hudson , from nearby Gulf Shores, would be the veteran I would be writing with. More on that in a bit.     After our dinner, our songwriter group got on stage and sang a few songs.   After we wrapped up, we headed to a favorite Irish Pub, “McGuire’s,” and closed out the ...

New Song Recorded...Lulu...Book On The Way

BILL BLOG Friday April 25, 2025   Here comes the weekend. It’s Friday once again. A high of 71 today with more rain on the way.   YESTERDAY I wrote with young Taylon Hope for the first time in a long while. Taylon is now a Sophomore at Belmont, University here in Nashville, and she’s chasing her musical dreams. We were to write in person and then one of her professors scheduled a test that would have conflicted so we wrote online instead and created a fun song for her that will be something she can add to her set list when she’s out performing “live”.   I’m rooting for some of her dreams to come true as I am so many other young talents in this crazy creative town.   BURN ME DOWN An American Idol contestant from a year ago, Kennedy Reid reached out to me a few months ago through a producer friers asking for songs for consideration for an album she was going to record. I sent three or 4 songs and ,she recorded one of those that I w...

Home Again...Hamburger Day...Dollywood

BILL BLOG Wednesday May 28, 2025   Wednesday morning, and I’m back home in Nashville. Sunshine with a high of just 79 here in Nashville today.   YESTERDAY A long drive home from Pensacola from our Freedom Sings USA songwriters retreat with our veterans. 2 traffic jams with detours, and one last traffic jam as I was 5 miles away. So, a normal 7 to 8 hour drive took 9 to get home this time. But we made it safe and sound with a bag full of great memories from the Memorial Day weekend, honoring those who gave so much. And what a pleasure it was getting to write with my friend and Viet Nam veteran Larry Hudson who had quite the story to tell that we turned into a song.   NEXT UP Our next Freedom Sings USA weekend will be in the small town of Heyworth, Illinois June 18 and 19. We were there last year, and it seemed like the entire town showed up on the night all the writers performed those songs we wrote with their veterans. We are certainl...
